SOME GHANAIAN MUSICIANS WHO TOOK OVER THE INDUSTRY BUT DIDN’T REIGN FOR LONG

Entertainment or music business in Ghana is the hardest job ever, there is not much business to it. Many musicians mostly regret their time wasted and lives for choosing the career path. All one can achieve in Ghana music business is popularity and probably lots of girls.

Reggie Rockstone himself advised young musicians to make hay whilst the sun shine. It’s almost impossible to be a consistent artist in Ghana.

Many musicians either give up or retire after years of trying to bringing hits. Perfect example is Ofori Amponsah, K.K. Fosu, Kofi Nti and more who were once great artists but have retired or can’t be seen.

These are the 10 Ghanaian musicians who made great impact with their songs, made one or two hits and that was just it. Let’s take a walk.

BRADEZ: Bradez started early and they had a couple of hit songs like 419, Simple, Flashe, during their time, they destroyed mics as the youngest artists to attain such success in their music career. Okyeame Kwame being their elder brother also boosted their career. Just when they had their most successful single, ‘SIMPLE’, Sarkodie came through to give them a run for their money. Since then Sarkodie is all you hear, you can barely hear of them. Good thing, they had plan b, thus school, Stone is currently a Biochemist and seldom do freestyles and release songs.

DR. CRYME: He became an overnight celebrity and a ladies man instantly after his 2 singles ‘Kill Me Shy’ and ‘Mene Woaa’ became a hit. Since then almost all his songs sounded the same. He hasn’t released any huge hit since then.

NANA BOROO: Nana Boroo released one of the biggest songs in Ghana, ‘Aha Ye De’ which got him lots of deals and got him lots of performances worldwide. Since then, we never heard anything big from the artist. He turned to business and seemed more concentrated there. He tried to fake his death for prominence.

ASEM: Asem changed the phase of Ghana music from Hiplife to Rap/Crunk (as they called it that time). He and his team were the talk of the town. He dined and worked with kings. He quit the team he grew with, since, him and his team has fallen apart, none of them are winning.

STAY JAY: He came through with Shashee Wowo, which was a huge hit, he remixed it with Tiffany which also performed massive. Since then fans sourced that Stay Jay’s songs were a bit one way, it’s always talking about girls who like money. He hasn’t made any huge hit songs since as much as he has released lots of potential hit songs. It doesn’t take long for Ghanaians to be fed up with you, I guess.

OPANKA: He came through with freestyles, most of his freestyles were hits, his biggest freestyle was the one he did on Bradez’ ‘Simple’ beat. He became a prominent person in Ghana music until he decided to release real singles. Most of them did well, and most of them failed. I guess that was the end of Opanka’s hay days.

YAA PONO: Just like Opanka, Yaa Pono came through as the freestyle king, freestyling with the likes of Sarkodie and Guru. Because he couldn’t come through with commercially successful songs, his career is still hanging, he seems a bit more relaxed now, doing no releases.

LYNX ENTERTAINMENT: No other group/team took over Ghana music like Lynx Entertainment, they were a strong force until money separated them. Their unity was admired, they brought out good songs in their days but it didn’t last. The group released songs like Wengeze by Eazzy, Fire by OJ Blaq, Runaway by Irene Logan, When I Get You by Richie, You Say Weytin by Ziggi and more song which were successful countrywide.

RICHIE MENSAH: He came through with his different and great production skills. He virtually gave Appietus who was the then biggest producer a run for his money. He produced, sang and performed greatly but didn’t last. Till date he still release singles which fails to perform on chats. I guess he need to switch his style or something.

PRAYE: They took the industry by storm straight after winning the Nescafe African Revelation. They released lots of great singles like Jacket, Shoddy and more songs which performed well including their all time biggest song in Ghana music history ‘Angelina’ which has been rumored to have sold more than 300,000 copies. Things fell apart when one member of the group called it quits. Since then it’s been all struggle.

5 FIVE: All the way from Adabrak they added spice to the music scene with their single ‘Beautiful Girls’, the remix also scored big. The went on to release bigger singles like Bossu Kena and their all time biggest hit song ‘Move Back (Mugye Baya)’. Label change and lots of discrepancies stalled the group’s group. Today it’s like they never existed. Whose fault is that?
