HOW 4SYTE MVAS 2013 ALMOST SWINDLED THE GHANA REVENUE AUTHORITY

When due diligence is not followed, appropriate authority will take action. This could explain the reason for the presence of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) at the just concluded MTN 4Syte Music Video Awards held at the Accra International Conference Center on the 16th day of November 2013.

The GRA collects 3% of the ticket fee for events of such magnitude, and as usual certain organizations deliberately try to avoid this tax. One reason could be their inability to factor this tax into the ticket so as to cover cost and not run into loss after GRA deducts their share.

According to the GRA agents stationed to exercise their constitutional mandate, if the organizers failed to cooperate with their operation, they will immediately close down the event and all patrons will return home more disappointed with 4Syte management. Acting clever to avoid such scenario because GRA were there with their heavily armed security men with AK47, nobody interrupted with their job.

Patrons at the event were amazed to see this kind of enforcement whereby a piece of their ticket was torn by a GRA staff with his uniform. Sometimes it will appear as if some people were going in without their ticket part retrieved and you will see quick movement to correct such abnormality.

Commenting on the issue, a female representative of GRA and who was part of the operation revealed that, “4Syte management did not consult them to obtain their receipts and structure a more efficient way of helping government generate revenue.”

Thus they stormed the venue. The male representative was more lenient in his explanation of their presence, he disclosed that among event organizers in Ghana, it is usually Empire Entertainment who will inform them prior to the program of his upcoming event, and the modalities will be well arranged. Hence even though their presence is not noticeable, their revenue was collected.

Lessons from GRA presence at 4Syte Music Awards

1. Protect the Dignity of an Event: It is far much better to meet with the Ghana Revenue Authority before your event, plan everything with them and not face such embarrassing sight. We all know that the approach to retrieving tax is not always pleasant. If a quiet negotiation can be attained before the program, why then will a rational entity prefer the presence of GRA?

2. Tearing of Ticket can cause serious problem: There is always an effective way of handling things especially money matters. Not only is it traditional and archaic but will never ensure a transparent exercise. What part of the receipt should be torn? What is the size of the torn apart? You see, something torn can be torn again, or in other wise it can be divided! Once suspicions arise, accusations will spark.

3. Fear of Government Tax agents: Yes this may sound like joke but honestly the guilty will always fear. Imagine someone who does not pay taxes coming to an event to chill and seeing the presence of Tax collectors. He may not understand their presence but would collapse because of fear. I have attended many events in the conference center and other major event centers in Ghana, that was my first time seeing Ghana Revenue Authority work in the night and at such event. They claim that they usually attend once the feel that they will not get their money but it is usually law breakers that will always create such scene and provoke their presence.

JULIET IBRAHIM SAYS CELEBRITIES CAN WEAR SAME DRESS TWICE BUT...

Half Lebanese and half Ghanaian/Liberian actress Juliet Ibrahim says a celebrity can wear a dress more than once depending on what the dress was used for. She said “I could use a dress today for an event whilst the same dress was used in a photo shoot that is yet to be released, say in 3months time. Repetition of dress depends on the individual.”

What does fashion and style mean to you?

Fashion is very important in today’s world especially in our industry. As an entertainer, the area of activity that involves styles of clothing and appearance is a key since paparazzi are always alert. I see fashion as how suitably one can be in his/her own style.

Please can you take us through your beauty routine because you look flawless and young by the day?

Flawless? Wow… I’m flattered, lol. I was born 27 years ago on the March 3rd. I try as much as i can to keep myself hydrated. After the birth of my son, I spent most of my time in the Gym but I had to stop due to my recent busy schedules. Hence, I do a lot of home exercise, like sit-ups. I eat anything I feel for during the day but nothing heavier than fruits or cereal past 6pm. I also avoid the wearing of makeup whenever am off a movie set. So on on a normal day, I only apply my lipstick and eyeliner, “smiles…”

Everyone thinks celebrities don’t wear the same dress twice, how true is that?

It’s quite unfortunate for celebrities. However, a celebrity can wear a dress more than once depending on what it was used for. I could use a dress today for an event whilst the same dress was used in a photo shoot that is yet to be released, say in 3months time. Repetition of dress depends on the individual.

How long does it take you to get dressed for an event?

It depends on the event. Also, if I have no idea of the choice of outfit to wear for the event, it could go up to 2hours if I have to get my own makeup and hair done.

Do you have favorite designers for clothes, shoes and bags?

I do not really have favorites because I sometimes end up going with the trend. I could wear anything as long as it suits my style.

What’s that fashion item you can’t do without?

I can’t do without a bag or sunglasses.

Who is your fashion icon?

J.Lo

What fashion and style blunders have you committed?

Not sure about that because I’m always conscious of whatever I put on.

Can you spend your last penny to look good?

No! I am not that kind of person. I am naturally blessed with beauty so I really don’t overdo or stress it.

Do you think a lady should go nude all in the name of fashion?

No! Having said that, everyone has his or her own fashion style. Some people pose nude for the campaign against usage of fur abroad. They believe it’s for a good cause besides, it’s been done times without number.

SEX SCANDAL HIT MOVIE INDUSTRY

We can all attest that the most aged and formal mode of selecting actors and actresses for a production is through auditioning. Yet, there are back door ways of doing it too; one of which is by cash and the other by sex.

The cash goes for actors whereas sex goes for the actresses of which the latter is becoming predominant.

Directors, Production Managers, Location Managers and other caucus in the production do employ damsels unto their set with an intension of gaining lustful pleasures from them.

These unscrupulous fellows promise to cast these damsels on condition of warming their beds. It is after this diabolic act that these movie moguls do their casting, yet still others are still denied roles after the act. There has been countless times, I've heard this evil plies from colleague actresses.

Winn Dravie, the brain behind "Woes of Zulata" has also affirmed his status; "Thank God, I'm not a lady. Like, I'd be opening my legs for every Tom, Dick and Harry".

Despite this, there are already some minx who venture the industry with purpose of selfishly offering themselves to gain illicit advantage. These have crafted disgraceful names like "player", "shashie", "magbon" etc for them. This is why most religious bodies and some guardians do not want their members and wards to venture this industry respectively.

One may ask why I'm poking my long nose into course, which has nothing doing with me. Well, this has got everything and more doing with me. As a movie stakeholder, would not sit down to watch this corruptness to eat into our moral fiber.

Engaging in sexual activities with an unmarried person utterly makes one disloyal. Sexual Transmitted Diseases including; HIV-AIDS, Gonorrhea, Syphilis etc can be passed on from one to the other. Above all, it would be nothing but reproach to the industry as a whole.

I'm thereby making a clarion call on all sundries of the industry to fight this evil sting.

SARKODIE COURT CASE: DUNCAN, SAMMY FORSON AND OTHERS ALSO SUED….. SEE THE HIGH COURT’S “WRIT OF SUMMONS”

As we said in our first publication issued yester night; “This Is A RUNNING STORY….
Sarkodie is on the limit of losing the swaged “SARK COLLECTION” to OBJ Clothing

(Jeremiah Oboubi), the gentleman who instigated the idea of starting a clothing line for Sarkodie and after several discussions with Sarkodie and his management members, provided the design, style, logo, art work and the brand name Sark.

According the WRIT OF SUMMON issued by the High Court of Justice (Commercial Division) in Ghana, Sarkodie happens to find himself some escorts to the court, since he is not the only person mentioned on the WRIT OF SUMMONS issued on 23/10/2013.

The people involved in the issues counts; Yfm Radio host ‘Sammy Forson’ and Isaac Duncan-Williams famous nicked as Dr. Duncan.

Sarkodie has been cautioned to make appearance at the court on the given period or else Judgment may be given in his absence without further notice.

MUSIC INDUSTRY MAY COLLAPSE IN TWO YEARS IF...PRODUCER

Chairman for Media Excel Music Production and Artiste Manager, Ernest Kwesi Ennin says the Music Industry in Ghana will collapse in two years if piracy is not arrested in two years.

“Musicians are suffering too much. People are not investing; the Industry is the cheapest commodity in the Ghanaian market," Kwesi Enning stated.
Speaking to Adom Fm, the music producer stressed that people are no longer buying CDs as they used to do and are rather downloading on the internet.

Kwesi Ennin noted that Ghanaian artistes go through so much hard work and invest lots of money in promoting the songs on television and on radio only for pirates to download it for free.

"Very few people buy CDs these days" Kwesi Ennin said, warning, that the music industry could perish if the trend continues.

He said royalties paid to musicians in Ghana is nothing to write home about as compared to their counterparts in other countries, citing the late Bob Maley’s wife as an example who now rely on his husband’s royalty for a living.

Ennin is asking that proper infrastructure should be put in place to revamp the music industry in Ghana as it used to be some years back.

He says Ghana has over 4, 000 musicians some of whom cannot even pay hospital bills and for other social amenities.
He expressed worry that due to the bad state of Ghana Music, banks in the country are not willing to give loans to musicians because they don’t have trust in the music industry anymore.

He said if nothing is done in the next two years, the industry would sink.

I TRY TO BE MYSELF- SARKODIE

Ghana’s award‐winning rapper, Sarkodie, has told NEWS-ONE how he stays on top of his game despite the keen competition in the music industry.

Sakodie, also referred to as Obidi Pon Bidi, revealed that his fashion brand, Sark Collection, would begin sale of female jeans and underwear, G-strings and shoes.

A few days ago, he won the Most Influential Artiste Award while his new track, Illuminati, won three other categories to become the topmost winner at the 4stye Music Video Awards 2013. He performed a similar feat at the Ghana Music Awards a few years back. He also won a BET award.

NEWS-ONE caught up with Sarkodie and asked him how he had managed to ‘rule’ the music industry throughout these years and how his chain of awards makes him feel.

“To start with, I am not ruling the industry, I just do what I do best and I think you get what you desire. I think it feels good because to be in the game for even two year is like a decade, so to still be around at this time makes me feel good and feel I am blessed,” he noted.

How Do You Stay On Top?
“I do it by not trying to do it because I don’t have a format or a strategy for winning. I try to be myself and pray to God to give me the divine favor. Anytime I am about to hit the stage or do a song, I just pray I should not let down my fans. That’s all I do. My fans are the main reason I do what I do and I try to make them happy because if you still keep your fan base, you can still go on.”

How Do You Keep Taking All The Major Awards
“Winning awards is good but I don’t want that to be my target. That is not what the whole idea is about. But it keeps happening because when you work hard, people recognize your efforts and applaud you. But when I am working, I don’t try to do something special to get awards. For example when I was shooting the Illuminati video, I did not have in mind the 4syte Awards was just around the corner.”

What Are You Working on Now?
“I am currently working on Sarkology. That is my new album coming out which has Illumanati, Gunshot, the new one with Fuse; Down On One, Halleluyah, Lies and more. This is basically a double CD album which is coming out. We are not too sure about the date but it has to come out before December and we have videos coming out as well.

“Aside music, we are also working on the Sark Collections. We have the new collections coming in by January. We have new designs for the snapback caps, shoes for ladies, jeans for ladies, underwear for ladies and ….

You Mean You Now Design G-Strings?
“Well not me designing G-string for ladies per say. You know I have a partner who designs most of the stuff. She is a lady and we have also realized that we have a lot of females patronizing the shop, so we decided to capitalize on that and meet their needs. I have not seen the ladies underwear myself but I believe they would be nice. I have seen the pictures of the other products.”

D'BANJ PLANS ON ACQUIRING A PRIVATE JET

Apart from few business moguls and few politicians who are proud owners of private jets in Nigeria, pastors are the next to have that expensive 'toy' used for transportation.

From findings, pastors in Nigeria have the higher number of jets than the others. There is even a man of God in Nigeria who has more than three private jets.

In the entertainment industry, there are no proud jet owners. The closest, P-Square, as we learnt, are not the owners of the private jet they reportedly bought some months ago.

For D'Banj, he has hinted that he needs to get a private jet. On Sunday, he was supposed to be at the wedding ceremony of Peter Okoye of P-Square, but missed it.

He lamented that if he had had a private jet, he would have made the trip to Nigeria from South Africa, where he performed on Saturday.

According to D'Banj, "this is the time I really wished I had that jet. I swear, whosover said it (having a private jet) was a luxury lied. It's a necessity and God go do am (God will do it)."

Actor Eddie Watson has confirmed his secret marriage with TV actress Naomi Woode.

“There had been all kinds of rumors about dating other celebrities including Yvonne Nelson and Queen Nwokoye. But it was all not true. It is Noami Woode and we are married,” the actor said.

'News-One' broke the news a month ago that the popular Liberia-born Ghanaian actor secretly got married to his longtime TV actress girlfriend and even leaked their marriage certificate.

“Eddie and Naomi have been together for two years, and decided to get married,” publicist Yemoh Ike also confirmed their marriage to News- -One yesterday.

MY DANCER IS NO PROSTITUTE - ASEM

Rapper and songwriter Asem has a way of courting controversy. This time, he has jumped to the defence of a young lady he brought on stage as a dancer during the ‘Glo Slide and Bounce’ concert.

The ‘Give Me Blow’ singer introduced the lady whose semi-nude body was covered in what appeared to be baby oil, as the girl behind his famous ‘Pigaro’ song on Saturday. Her erogenous dance moves left both the crowd and Asem breathless after his thrilling performance at the Accra Sports Stadium.

A section of the Ghanaian public present at the event were quick to conclude that Asem had brought on stage a ‘wild dancer’ with some even describing her as a prostitute, NEWS-ONE gathered.

But Asem, who appeared to be enjoying the dangerous dance moves of his dancer, took to his twitter page to explain that the girl was just a “dancer and a model, not a prostitute.”

“She is not a prostitute, she is just an artiste and a model. We Are Artistes with Art In Our Genes,” the ‘Bye Bye’ hit maker tweeted.

Asem, who has over 35,000 followers on the social platform Twitter.com and equally large following on Facebook, gave the crowd a taste of his new single titled “Big Johnny”.

Nana Wiafe Asante-Mensah, as he is also known, is scheduled to perform alongside Reggie Rockstone, KwabenaKwabena, Sherifa Gunu among others at the ‘Glo Slide and Bounce’ concert, which is slated for November 24 at Takoradi in the Western Region.

“The Greatest Feeling In The World Is Getting A Great Reaction From A Positive Action, I Miss The Stage N Fans,” Asem added.

SARKODIE IN TROUBLE!

Sarkodie is on the verge of losing his Sark Collection brand to one gentleman by name Obuobi Jeremiah who initiated the idea of starting a clothing line for Sarkodie and after several discussions with Sarkodie and his management members, provided the design, style, logo, art work and the brand name Sark.

Jeremiah Obuobi is doing business with the brand name OBJ Clothing therefore he suggested the brand name OBJ Sark 1. In a writ of summons dated 23rd October 2013, Sarkodie including two of his core management members Isaac Duncan-Williams and Sammy Forson of Y-fm are to appear at the Akufo-Addo, Prempeh & Co Chambers, who are the solicitors and legal advisers for OBJ Clothing.

Among other demands, the lawyer in charge of this copyright infringement case Barrister Kwabena Boye Adjekumhene is demanding a whooping GHc 90,000 to be paid to his client, being the fee due to the plaintiff for creating the artwork, to render proper accounts of all shoes, clothing and accessories to which the artwork created by the plaintiff has been applied and sold in order to aid the court as to the quantum of damages.

Hearing facts of the case as reported to Flex newspaper, Obuobi Jeremiah who happens to be the Chief Executive Officer of OBJ Clothing introduced this clothing line idea to Sarkode’s management including the logo, art work and after consideration, he (Obuobi) was asked to supply samples of the product line he was talking about.

Out of this burning desire to work with the most bankable artist in Ghana, he proceeded to Kumasi and started sewing foot wears with the Sark design and artwork on them. During one of the Rapperholic concerts, OBJ Clothing provided T-Shirts which were used by management and followers of the artiste and some given out as “freebies” to Sarkodie’s fans at the concert inside the Dome of the Accra Conference center.

Obuobi presented the samples to Sarkodie and his management team but there was no favorable response from them until he read in the news that Sarkodie had launched his Sark Collection clothing line without his knowledge. Flex newspaper reporters saw some of the sample products and can confirm that production process really started.

When Obuokbi realized that his artwork which is his intellectual property had been infringed upon, he wrote to the copyright office of Ghana to seek redress, Mr. Atiemo at the Copyright office wrote back to Sarkdie and his management people but there was no good deal out of it, until he left the country to the United State of America where he is residing now.

Though Obuobi started talks with Sarkodie’s management especially Sammy Forson, promises to make payment for using his artwork was not forthcoming therefore his resolve to use Barrister Kwabena Boye Adjekumhene and his Akufo-Addo, Prempeh & Co Chambers to come to his aid. As of Monday during press time, there were indications that the writ had been sent to Sarkodie and his management members.

Flex newspaper is even gathering that, the extension of this case might include other individuals and institution who have used this artwork for their publicity activities.

If Sarkodie and his management fail to appear before OBJ’s legal advisors, they might meet them at the High Court of Justice: Commercial Division anytime soon or issue an injunction to close down the Sark Collection shop at Dzowulu. It is out wish at Flex newspaper that Sarkodie and his people will respond to this quickly to avert any issues that might affect the career and brand of the best rapper of our time.

CONFIRMED! REGGIE ROCKSTONE NOW A MEMBER OF VIP

After publicly declaring his intention to join music group VIP, Myjoyonline.com can confirm that Reggie Rockstone is now a member of the group.

Reggie's intention to join VIP was necessitated by Emmanuel Ababio (Promzy)'s exit from the prominent music group, which also has members made up of Joseph Nana Ofori (Prodigal), and Abdul Hamid Ibrahim (Lazzy now Zeal), after almost two decades of recording and performing with them.

Many had said Reggie Rockstone's declaration to join the group was just a publicity stunt but after weeks of having the news inundating the media landscape, VIP has agreed to bring him onboard.

The hip-life 'Grand papa' confirmed to Myjoyonline.com, Tuesday that he is now a member of the group, indicating that the agreement was "just by words".

"I speak to Lazy, Prodigal...it's nothing to be officiated", Reggie stressed,

He further noted, "I was supposed to perform" at the 4Syte Music Video awards last Saturday with VIP to formally introduce "me as a member" but that did not materialize because he was on another show at the Accra Sports Stadium that same day.

"I was supposed to get on stage with them for that, that would have been my first appearance," he stated and hinted that "We might do it at the 'Back in the Day Concert."

Credited for starting the hip-life music movement in Ghana, Reggie is part of the main acts for this year's 'Back in the Day' concert, which will be headlined by legendary American hip-hop group, 'Naughty By Nature'. The concert comes off on December 6 at the Accra International Conference Centre.

Manager of VIP, BullDog, known in real life as Lawrence Hanson, in an interview with Myjoyonline.com, Tuesday, also confirmed Reggie's addition to the group.

"We've spoken about it so it's not like we never had that discussion," BullDog noted, adding that they have held about three discussions on the matter.

According to him, the group "should have done a performance with him at the 4Syte Music Awards," and the "reason why it didn't happen was because he was somewhere doing a Glo event".

Managers of VIP are therefore calling on Ghanaians to expect VIP and their newest member, Reggie Rockstone, on stage in December.
