MY DANCERS WERE PROMOTING BREAST CANCER AWARENESS

Are you wondering why Akoo Nana decided to do the unthinkable by unleashing three bare chested ladies at the just ended Tigo Music Unplugged Concert? If you care to know, the controversial hip-life musician has finally broken the ice concerning the move.

In an interaction with United Television, Akoo Nana revealed that the rate at which breast cancer is making life unbearable for ladies in Ghana is pathetic; hence his decision to perform with the half-naked dancers on stage.

“This is little I can do as a musician and I am supporting and promoting the campaign against the breast cancer disease. Some ladies are scared to expose their breast for experts to use during experiment and it doesn't help in educating the masses about the disease”, he said.

‘I HAVE NO APOLOGIES BEING EXPENSIVE’ - ACTRESS

Legendary actress and wife of Olu Jacobs, Joke Silva, has stated categorically that she has no apologies whatsoever for being one of the most expensive producers in the Nigerian film industry.

The respected actress, who began her career way back in the 80s after featuring in the popular TV series such as Mirror in the Sun, Second Chance, Mind Bending and Tight Rope among others, stated this while speaking at the October 2014 edition of the Filmmakers’ Forum, organised monthly by the Nollywood Studies Centre, School of Media and Communication, Pan-Atlantic University, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Speaking on the topic, Beyond the Glitz: An Acting Career built on Sweat, Tears and Professionalism, Joke Silva said, the longevity she enjoys as an actress stems from the quality training she had while studying drama at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London.

According to her, she believes in training, hence she owes her longevity in the industry to it.

Describing herself as a ‘classically trained actor’, Joke who is often referred to as the grandmother of Nollywood boasted that given her years of experience as an actress, she’s one of the most expensive producers around, and that she has no apologies for her action.

“This is because if you want me to play the dual role of producing as well as acting in your film, it means you will part with reasonable amount of money to hire me.”

OBRAFOUR SAYS “GHANAIAN MUSIC IS GRADUALLY LOSING ITS IDENTITY”

A veteran hiplife artist, Kwabena Otchere Darko known in showbiz as Obrafour, has expressed worry over what he termed the swift perishing of Ghanaian traditions and cultural values in our music.

Obrafour in an exclusive interview with Dj Sly on Ark Fm over the weekend said “change is good but the change should be such that our foundations remain original since change is the law of nature”.

He said Ghana music is gradually losing its sense of identity and belonging as compare to the previous years.

“I sometimes get worried about the trend of our music because most musicians nowadays do not recognize and consider the traditions and cultural values of our homeland in their content which is gradually killing our identity as Ghanaians”

When asked about how he feels when the he sees the younger generation going astray with the music content, he advice that they should always remember where they come from and their background because music is a powerful tool that can sell our culture and traditions to the outside world.

“Music is a powerful tool which brings change to the individual and the nation at large, so just as we always yearn for good and healthy food for our body, so must we give the best of satisfaction to the soul because music is the food of the soul”.

The “Odasani” hitmaker has again advice the youth that, music has taken a lot of twist and turns over the years which has put the Ghanaian music on the high ladder making it possible to rock shoulders with the foreign music so they should preach through their music by given the right message the audience.

WAYOOSI SEEKS DIVINE HELP

Diminutive actor, Wayoosi who used to be the prefered choice of producers for certain roles in Kumawood movies and a regular face on our screens, has been ‘missing in action’ in recent times.

New faces of actors with his kind of stature have been gracing the screens lately. And Wayoosi, who has not been very active in front of the cameras for the past two years says he saw it coming.

“ This is not a new thing in the movie industry because even bigger actors have been side-lined when new faces had come on board so I knew sooner or later, it would be my turn and it has happened,” he said in an interview with Graphic Showbiz.

Instead of him ranting and attacking producers for not casting him because of the new faces in the business, Wayoosi has decided to leave everything to God because He knows best.

“I know a lot of people in my shoes would go about complaining about why producers are not casting them for roles anymore but there is no point in fighting over this. “Everything has its time and I believe it is time for the new ones to shine and also make names for themselves.

“I cannot fight physically. Rather, I will rely on God for things to get better. I know it is God who installs and dethrones kings. I would rather allow God to take control than me fighting,” he said.

When it was pointed out to him that he is not being cast because he is a spent force, Wayoosi quickly retorted: “Let me use this opportunity to set the record straight; I have not lost my acting capabilities.

This is not the reason producers do not cast me anymore. It is just that, they want to try the new faces which I think is no big deal.”

Asked if he is not really bothered since he has decided to leave everything to divine intervention, Wayoosi remarked: “ Of course, I am not happy about it because I earn an income from making movies and since I am not being used by producers anymore, it will by all means go against me. I am losing out making a living.

“But I also believe that everything happens for a reason. I have other investments like my Wayoosi Pub in Kumasi which generates some income for me so I would say I am kind of comfortable financially but of course, earning additional income will always go a long way to help in so many other ways.”

Commenting on what he thinks about producers sidelining actors when new faces come on the scene, Wayoosi, real name Joseph Osei, said: “There is little I can do or say. I don’t produce movies so I cannot blame someone for what he or she uses his or her money for.

“ On the other hand, I think it is a good thing. It gives other people the opportunity to showcase their talents as well as serve as a source of income for them too.

Wayoosi is a product of the College of Arts in Kumasi. He has featured in over 50 movies which include Agya Koo Mechanic, Matricki Wo, Atofo Wuo, Mogya bi Akassa, Akoda Nyame, Asem Aba Ghana and Papa Nebu.

IT’S BEEN A ROUGH RIDE - OFORI AMPONSAH

When Ofori Amponsah decided to turn his back on a lucrative secular music career to become an evangelist, he had perhaps not anticipated a tough, rough ride. After all, men of God are supposed to be prosperous and have things going easy for them.

However, like the story of Saul who became Paul in the Bible and faced many challenges, Ofori Amponsah has admitted that “It has not been easy; it has been a really rough ride for me.”

From being the favourite in most homes and among teeming fans, the once vibrant Ofori Amponsah aka Mr All4Real, said he has had to deal with rejection from many people because they still do not believe he’s turned over to Christ.

“I have faced a lot of rejection from people. Many are finding it difficult to accept that Ofori Amponsah is truly doing the work of God, but, this is a calling that those who have known me for a very long time are not surprised about.

“I have been born again since 1995 and even pursued a pastoral course at the time but I had to take a detour to chase interests. I am, however, very happy to be back to the vineyard,” he told Showbiz at his Ofankor residence last Tuesday.

The Emmanuella singer has stood his grounds and insists, such difficulties were not enough to deter him from serving God wholeheartedly.

The Otoolege hitmaker is very hopeful that his new journey in Christendom will “yield good fruits” when the time is due, because he does not believe in the “this is beyond me” opinion.

He said that such a conviction helped him to succeed in an industry that already had great talents such as Daddy Lumba and Kojo Antwi. “ I was able to shine in the face of the stiff competition. People initially doubted my capabilities back then. They wondered if I could make it and I showed them what I was made of.

“ Today, Ghanaians are witnesses to the impact I made which is not important to me anymore. Those were the times when I talked about the kind of love that healed marriages but now, I want to talk about a greater love that will bring people to God for the rest of my life”.

Touching on fame, Ofori said, “It can kill. It gives you access to places you ordinarily wouldn’t dream of. You think you have the power to do everything and that is where the danger is”.

Since he came out publicly as a born again and said goodbye to secular music, many people have read different meanings into his decision. Paramount among them is the assumption that the 'Sardine' singer turned to God because his music career hit the rocks and he needed another avenue to make money.

Ofori laughs this off saying, “I know how and where to get money. This is not just a decision I took in a day. I decided to do this a long time ago and when it was time for me, I adhered to the calling.”

Like Paul, Ofori Amponsah says his focus is on heavenly reward and hopes he will be able to work hard in God’s field, to deserve that reward.

For now, the evangelist who is managing his “flock ” as well as his educational facility, Faithful Child Academy at Ofankor, is hoping the strong tides in his Ministry will soon be calm.

He came to prominence when he featured on Daddy Lumba’s Wo Ho Kyere and released his debut album, Asew, in 2000.
