SOME GHANAIAN SONGWRITERS ARE LAZY - HAMMER

Award-winning sound engineer and music producer, Hammer of the Last Two has taken a swipe at songwriters in the country.

According to him, majority of Ghanaian songwriters are ignorant about the fact that the phenomenon of rhyming is not exclusive to rap music and dancehall and noted that such a situation is entirely unacceptable.

Hammer also stressed that whenever rhyming is not used in a song, it takes the poetry out of the song citing that it is only Edem, EL, Obrafour and a few other artistes who make use of rhyming in their songs.

He was of the view that most singers or songwriters for that matter, only write words and sing.

Da Hammer, who sounded so passionate about the need to make use of rhyming in songs by songwriters, revealed that Bob Marley, R Kelly and anyone else who is relevant in the history of songwriting and singing, doesn't have a single song with rhyming absent.

In registering his displeasure about the lack of rhyming in songs composed by Ghanaian songwriters,

DAVID OSCAR REJECTED CHARTER HOUSE'S 1018 LAUGHS & MUSIC INVITE

The inclusion of Ghana's comedy act DKB in the lineup of comedians for the Night of 1018 Laughs and Music was a good news for the entertainment industry as Nigerian comedians had dominated the event over the years.

Even before the inclusion of DKB, many entertainment platforms had been wondering if comedians such as DKB, David Oscar, Khemical, Foster and others were not good enough to be part of Charterhouse's Night of 1000 Laughs and Music Series or they just may have been neglected by Charterhouse.

Considering the inclusion and performance of DKB at the Night of 1018 Laughs and Music, it's very certain that Charterhouse may not have any other option than to ensure that DKB or any other Ghanaian comedian is given the chance to perform in the next edition of the event.

However, the possibility of having David Oscar on the Night of 1000 Laughs and Music Series is in doubt, and this may be due to some obvious reasons.

It's been alleged that there is a bad blood between David Oscar and George Quaye, P.R.O of Charterhouse, who also doubles as the Producer of the Night of 1000 Laughs and Music Series.

Based on this, it's believed that David Oscar may never be invited to be part of the series. However, to make matters worse, David Oscar has made it categorically clear that he does not need Charterhouse's platform to exhibit his comedy talent as he would want to concentrate on the Corporate Comedy Series.

He made this known in an interview he granted Mamavi on Rhythms A-Zon Joy FM over the weekend.

In an exclusive interview with Flex Newspaper, David Oscar confirmed that indeed he does not need Charterhouse's platform. Reacting to the assertion that there is bad blood between George Quaye and himself, David Oscar noted that he doesn't think there is anything of that sort.

The P.R.O of Charterhouse, George Quaye in response to the question of whether there is bad blood between himself and David Oscar and the possibility of having David invited to be part of the Night of 1000 Laughs and Music Series, this is what George had to say;

"There's no bad blood between David and I. There's never been and there can never be. David is my kid brother. He just hates criticism. He says I called them (comedians) "whack" on Joy FM in February.

So in return he calls me a twerp, a fool, a worm and all sorts. But I can't fight him. I wasn't brought up like that. I won't insult him back, and I still respect him. It's all good," he concluded.

“I will continue to observe his works as a comedian. If the time is right to take the 1000 Laughs stage, I'll gladly put him on. But then again, I doubt he'll want to be on because he's already said and always maintained that he doesn't need that platform.

I guess he's bigger and better than all the other comedians who have been there... DKB's performance was great, and we are happy for him. We pray he continues to get better and take his act to other countries. We wish him well."

"INVEST IN DEVELOPING OUR WRITING SKILLS"

Many contemporary artistes in Ghana have always depended on great beats and instrumentals to produce hit songs, but Hiplife artiste, Choirmaster, believes that Ghanaian artistes should also invest in developing their writing skills.

He said that was one of the surest ways to rub shoulders with other artistes on the international music scene as the composition of songs notably, its lyrics, play an important role in music.

“I have always been a crusader for great lyrics and my colleagues I worked with in the Praye group know I am a very good writer. I just don’t put anything in my song.

I am very concerned about lyrics so developing my writing skills has always been a passion. That is not to say that having great beats or instrumentals to complement the songs should be disregarded.

No. My only stand is that, my colleagues and I should always tell a story with our songs. That is the writing skills I’m talking about,” he told Showbiz last week Thursday.

Choirmaster’s Ghana’s Most Beautiful song is officially being used as the theme song for TV3’s Ghana’s Most Beautiful pageant, and he proudly talks about how the song has been accepted by the public within its short period of release.

He said it was the content and more importantly; the lyrics that project the beauty of the Ghanaian woman that he was sure convinced the organisers to choose a song for this year’s event.

Choirmaster said that even though he didn’t want to blow his own horn as a good writer, his works in the past and recent times speak volumes of his writing abilities as one of the best writers in the industry.

Currently, he is promoting two of his singles, Saved By Grace and Pull Him Down which he launched on his birthday, July 26, 2014.

Pull Him Down which is delivered in the mid-tempo vein talks about how some elements in the industry do not want the progress of others and “warns” them to stay off him since his story is a success one.

He however takes on a religious path on Saved By Grace where he sings about how God has brought him this far despite the difficult times he encountered at the initial stages of his career. He encourages others to wear “the never give up” coat to stand challenges when they crop up.

To buttress his point with support from the scriptures, Choirmaster quotes Isaiah 12:8 but interestingly, the chapter 12 of the book of Isaiah ends at verse 6.

This was his response when asked about it. “This is part of the writing skills I’m talking about. Let people raise questions in your songs when they listen to them. It is part of the creativity,” he said.

BARIMA SYDNEY CONGRATULATES SARKODIE FOR ‘INFLATION’

Declaring a musical coup d'état in the 3rd quarter of last year, Barima Sydney has congratulated Sarkodie for heeding to his advice by releasing ‘Inflation’, a song that questions the competence of the ruling government, National Democratic Congress.

Barima Sydney who advised his fellow musicians to wake up and compose songs that will endeavor to remind the ruling government of its actual responsibilities to the country and also, to know the suffering of Ghanaians.

He said “I am glad Sarkodie took this bold step to add his voice to the advocacy to address the disheartening state the country finds itself now.”

‘Inflation’, a song which addresses the current state of the country’s economy, the fall of the country’s currency and a quest to question the competence of the ruling government; President Mahama and his cabinet as to whether they are indeed working for the interest of Ghana or not.

Barima Sydney has songs including ‘Africa money’, ‘Apuskeleke’, ‘Scent No’, ‘Donkomi’, ‘Obia nye obia’ and currently, ‘Ayeka’, among others.

A-plus and Barima Sidney have been the sole stunt musicians who are known for addressing political issues pertaining to the state the country finds itself musically.

And Lucky Mensah, whom earlier composed a song to oppose to the ruling party and hitherto unfair treatment, composed another song to his hirers and also.

Currently, Daddy Lumba’s latest song is the song being used by the ruling government to justify itself.

LYDIA FORSON SECRETLY PRODUCING OWN MOVIE?

Popular Ghanaian actress, Lydia Forson, seems to be hiding something about an upcoming movie she has been working on.

Though she is yet to confirm her involvement in the production, information available to NEWS-ONE had it that the bubbly actress, self-produced the new movie.

Unlike some of her colleague actresses who would make noise about the ownership of the movie, Lydia is rather tight-lipped about the whole thing.

Sources have said she is reuniting with her long time friend, Naa Ashorkor Mensah-Doku, in the new movie titled, A Letter To Adam after their first performance hit movie, “Perfect Picture,” by Sparrow productions.

Another array of top African actors on the project include; Nollywood’s Wale Ojo and Ghana’s Akorfa Edjeani Asiedu with Sam Kessie from the United States of America as the director.

Lydia has since been promoting the movie on social media platforms; Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook among others.

However, she only laughed when she was contacted yesterday about the ownership of the movie.

The beautiful actress who last featured in the Ghanaian movie, 'Masquerade', has become an influential continental figure.

Among projects she was recently featured on, were Nollywood’s Phone Swap by Kunle Afolayan and South African series, Scandal.

She was also named 2014 African Movie Academy Awards ambassador and DStv Social Media ambassador. The upcoming production is her latest feat.

OKYEAME KWAME EXPRESSES FEARS ABOUT GHAMRO

Ace rapper, Okyeame Kwame has expressed concerns about past agitations raised over the Ghana Music Right Organization (GHAMRO). His assertion comes barely a month after the appointment of the interim board of GHAMRO in which he is the interim Public Relations Officer.

On his blog, ok.ghanaweb.com, Okyeame Kwame asks if six months will be enough for the board to work effectively to prevent further agitations.

Below is the unedited copy of the article

Before I hit on my fears, I will like to share with you the background of Copyright in Ghana. Ghana’s experience with Copyright protection dates as far back as 1911.

There was the Copyright Act of UK, a standard Act or law which applied to all colonies including Ghana, then the Gold Coast until 1961 when Ghana’s own law was passed.

This was the Copyright Act 85, but the provisions presented some challenges hence in 1985 there were AGITATIONS for further protection of the rights of the musicians. This is what led to the promulgation of the PNDC Law 110, which ensured a balanced protection for all works.

After 10 years, the PNDC Law 110 was repealed and replaced with Act 690 of 2005 due to AGITATIONS of authentication. This among others added to the provisions for authentication of security devices used in protecting copyrights works. It also necessitated the formation of Collective Management Societies ending the monopoly enjoyed by the Copyright Society, COSGA.

The Copyright Society of Ghana (COSGA) was set up in 1986 as an umbrella organization to cater for all creative works as provided under the PNDL Law 110 of 1985. Along the line, some issues cropped up leading to AGITATIONS towards an amendment of the law to conform to provisions provided under the 1992 Constitution. COSGA was subsequently liquidated in 2011 after the L.I was passed to operationalize the Copyright Act 690 of 2005.

For a broader perspective of how Collective Management Organization (C.M.O) operates, it is important to understand the existing models throughout the world and the kind of structures by which they function. Three models can be identified here i.e. Anglophone, Francophone and Regime based Societies.

Ghana practises the Anglophone model, where the highest decision making body is an elected Board of Directors with a term from two to four years which in turn appoints well qualified operating officers with the requisite knowledge in business and/or collective management administration.

This was the expectation of most Ghanaian right owners and publishers when a two year interim board for GHAMRO was set up. Issues of accountability, absence of Senior Management for example a C.E.O, end of the Board’s mandate, absence of Annual General meeting during the entire Board tenure, and the mode of distribution caused further AGITATONS leading to Nana Ampadu, Daddy Lumba, Amakye Dede among 100 others dragged this issue to court.

The outcome of the court action is that there was an interlocutory injunction to remove the Board members from office and replace it with five selected people including myself (Kwame Nsiah-Apau), Nana Aboagye Dacosta, Enoch Agyapong, two state attorneys, Ms Dorothy Habadah (Lawyer from Copyright Office) and Kow Sessah Acquaye (Lawyer from the Attorney General) to steer operations of GHAMRO in the right order for six months.

It’s only been one month and musicians have already started AGITATIONS. Our mandate is to do three things; act as receivers, managers and overseers of an election for a substantive board.

So now my fears pose questions like: Do we have enough time?

Can we be different from our predecessors? Can this be the last AGITATION?

Only time can tell.

I WON’T BE NAKED AGAIN- KISA

Ghanaian actress, Kisa Gbekle, has apologised for posting her semi nude and sexually suggestive photos on some social media platforms after months of sustained public bashing.

The young actress and musician recently made headlines with her semi nude photos in public domain. She attempted to offer explanations to justify the photos by comparing them to similar ones by world star, Rihanna.

Kisa had argued by then that if the Ghanaian entertainment media had no problems with semi nude photos of Amerian singer Rihanna, then she had every right to take same photos and publish them without offending the media.

However, Kisa made a u-turn on Wednesday and took to social media to apologise for publishing her half-naked photos and promised she would henceforth “be of a good behaviour”.

“Never again will I be a bad girl. I promise on my honour to be faithful and loyal to my people. No more bad pictures…lol (laugh out loud) but check instagram now kisagbekle,” she said on facebook.

Meanwhile the actress, almost immediately after the post, uploaded another ‘wild’ photo of herself on instagram.

Kisa is known for her performance in a number of movies including the TV series, The Miser. She was last in the news over her controversial Twerk music video.

MEET THE GH FEMALE RAPPERS

The Ghanaian music scene has been criticised for the lack of female rappers and this perceived “drought” is perhaps what pushed Tema based music producer, Mix Masta Garzy to put out the mixtape GH Female Cypher.

The song, recorded by Mix Masta Garzy and released last Friday, features not one, not two, not three but eight relatively known female rappers in the country.

The young ladies who lent their voices on GH Female Cypher are Abena, Esbee, Porsche, Eyirap, X Cot, Mila, Scrach and Eno.

Recorded over a ‘hard’ instrumental beat, the rappers take their turn to prove their rap skills on the song. Abena gives some punchy rhyming on the song.

She raps on the need for people to give female rappers the opportunity to prove their skills and thanked Mix Masta Garzy for conceiving idea to the bring together the “best of the best” to deliver on the song.

The rest, Esbee, Porsche, Eyirap, Scrach and Mila also rap about the many issues affecting the music industry. Even though the ladies exhibit some ‘friendly rivalry’ on who is the best among them, Mila also known as The “Zongo Girl” rather takes the “friendly rivalry” to another level.

Her rather uncouth and derogatory choice of words on the song was uncalled for. But Mix Masta Garzy came to her defense when Showbiz interviewed him on Monday.

“This is rap music and not a gospel song. This kind of music just like hiphop gives people the opportunity to prove why they think they are the best in the game.

That is exactly what Mila sought to do. The other ladies understand it so I don’t think that it should be a point of distraction,” he said.

Talking about why he came out with this project, he said, “ it was to “quench the thirst of not hearing female voices on rap music. I released 2MG Mixtape Vol 1 for the guys early this year and thought it was only fair to give the ladies the same opportunity and I’m happy about the finished product,” he added.

In an interview with Kumasi based female rapper, Eno, who also featured on the mixtape, she expressed her delight at what she said was the “birth of great female rappers."

She said that they had been overshadowed for long and this was their time to shine and getting the opportunity to be featured on the song was just the right platform.

YOU KNOW MY NAME BUT NOT MY STORY

Not many celebrities would openly discuss their relationship challenges but the Odo Filla star, Abrewa Nana, says she has completely forgiven her ex-boyfriend of four years after he broke her heart when she caught her with another woman.

Forgiven, yes; but Abrewa Nana has not forgotten. “This was a guy who had chased me for three years. He was always around me, helping me fix things and so I decided to give him a chance.

“I thought that for a man to chase you continuously for three years, it meant he really loves you and wants to be with you”, she told this reporter.

“Everything went on well with us for four years until one day, I decided to pay my man a visit, only for me to get there and catch him red handed with another woman,” she said.

“At that moment, my life was shattered. In tears and with a broken heart, I left. I did not realise that I was driving at top speed until I got to Adenta and had a near crash. It was by the intervention of God that I survived, my VW Golf 3 saloon car however didn’t hit anybody,” she said.

Looking back to that incident, Abrewa Nana believes that what she suffered was partly the direct consequence of her being a female celebrity. According to the 30-year-old artiste, men who come her way are often unable to stand the attention she gets especially from male admirers.

“Yes, I would say being in showbiz has played a role in my not settling down with a man till now. This is because I was in a relationship where we actually wanted to settle down but the guy felt insecure and I think he cheated out of insecurity.

“Sometimes, I go out on a date and I get hugs from male fans and I could tell when my partner is uncomfortable. I lost two relationships that way because although I love my man, I also cherish my fans,” she said.

The good news is that Abrewa Nana is currently dating someone she adores and prays that this one works out as she plans on settling down soon.

“I pray this works and I know it will. This is because, this guy is someone I know from childhood and he really understands the nature of my job and has been very instrumental in my bouncing back onto the music scene after a long break."

“I agree that it is difficult for female artistes to settle down due to some of these issues but I want the men out there who want to go in for celebrities to believe in themselves and understand what they are going in for. They should know that being a celebrity does not make you a flirt, the men should learn to trust,” she said.

Abrewa Nana is one of the first female hiplife artistes in Ghana and she has three albums to her credit namely Sagaa , African Girl and Maba. Alongside music, Abrewa Nana is working on a breast cancer campaign as her social responsibility project.

Abrewa Nana, born Dorcas Opoku Dakwa, is a singer, songwriter, and dancer. Raised mostly by her single mother, Nana attended Aggrey Memorial Senior High School, before studying business accounting at the Takoradi Polytechnic.

She is currently promoting her latest three singles namely, Adjoa Ninja, Number One and No-Money-No Honey.

YOU CAN PLAY MY OLD SONGS - OFORI AMPONSAH

Hi-life musician, now a self-professed Man of God, Ofori Amponsah, says he has no problem playing his old songs (deemed profane) although he is now leading a new life.

Ofori Amponsah's comments come after former hip-life star, Abraham Philip Akpor Kojo Kenya, popularly known as Lord Kenya cautioned radio presenters and DJs across the country against playing his hip-life songs which he describes as “ungodly”.

Lord Kenya said once he has repented from his old lifestyle, anything “worldly” should not be associated with him because he is now born again.

But Ofori Amponsah, who is now the Head Pastor of the Holy Ground Sanctuary, speaking in an interview with myjoyonline.com said while he supports Lord Kenya’s directive, he has no problem with people playing his old songs.

"LIFE HAS NOT BEEN THE SAME"- KWAW KESE ADMITS

It’s been over five months since the gruesome murder of his Manager Fennec Okyere at his Manet Gardens residence on the Spintex Road in Accra and Kwaw Kese attests to the fact that his life has never been the same without his late manager.

Kwaw Kese who was hit so hard with the incident has over this period gone silent after several controversies surrounding Fennec’s death and its aftermath. After Fennec was successfully laid to rest on April 26, 2014 Kwaw Kese went to America to cool off, clear his head and plan the way forward for himself and his MadTime Entertainment team.

Five months on, Fennec’s death and his short life on earth still remains fresh in Kwaw Kese’s mind. He shared a post on Facebook on August 13, 2014 which was exactly five months of Fennec’s untimely demise which occurred on March 13, 2014. Kwaw expressed how life has been in the past few months without his backbone Fennec Okyere.

Kwaw Kese wrote:

“5 months ago, He was murdered in cold blood. Life has not been the same but I believe that you are with us in whatever we do.... RIP Fennec Okyere!!! You are my Manager for life”.

Kwaw Kesse has released a fresh photo on his facebook time line telling his fans about his new image and his new brand announcing his new image to his fans after the death of his manager Fennec.

Kwaw has also released a new single “Mr. Lover Lover” featuring Ball J few days ago, after he released “Swedru Agona” which features Obrafour.

Kwaw is expected back in Ghana very soon to release the video for “Swedru Agona” and prepare for the release of his new album.

Frantic efforts have been made by the Ghana Police to arrest the perpetrators of the murder, but nothing concrete has been established after five months aside the arrest of Bulldog as a prime murder suspect.

On the eve of his burial the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police service sent out a directive to reward persons with credible information on the death of Fennec Okyere with cash reward of ¢20,000 but none came out until information came that another artiste manager Bull Dog had been arrested for being the prime suspect of the murder. The case is still being heard at law courts waiting for final judgment.

With this new image out, will Kwaw Kesse remain the same fire brand like he was sometime ago or it also means a new character and total overhaul of his style?

GOOD NAME IS BETTER THAN RICHES...

Highlife musician, Kumi Guitar, says he wants to be placed under the group of Ghanaian musicians who stayed away from profane songs.

Nana Yaw Kumi, as he is christened, believes that most of the great highlife musicians are remembered today by many because of the messages they channel across to their fans.

“Most of the highlife musicians are all sweet musicians and I learn from all of them and that is the type of music I listen to because I feel they carry strong messages, morals in the type of lyrics they use and it encourages me not to do any profane songs. “It tells me that these people were successful because they had good vibes and they sing songs to educate you. I won’t do any profane song, I pray so and I won’t do it,” Kumi Guitar observed.

There are just a few Ghanaian musicians like Obrafour, Agya Koo Nimo, Amakye Dede and George Darko, among others, whose names have gone down in the history books for staying away from profane lyrics.

“As it stands, there are few musicians like that and their names are all clean. 1 want to be part of that few. I don’t mind if 1 don’t earn anything because of my stance for now, because good name is better than riches. I sing profane songs and make money but at the end of the day, what service will I be rendering to the country? Someone might look up to me as a mentor, and if they want to do what I do, they will listen to my type of songs.

If I’m singing all profane, that person will have no option than to do the same,” he added.

Kumi is currently promoting his new single titled ‘Scriptures’ which features Kwabena Kwabena. He is also working on his debut album which should be ready later in the year.

CASTRO’S MANAGER DARES PRODUCER TO RELEASE MOVIE...

Castro’s Manager, DJ Amess, is challenging the producer of “Castro Amanefunu”, a local movie, which tells the story of the sudden disappearance of the ace hip-life musician to release the movie.

The hip-life musician, together with a lady friend went missing at the Ada estuary, while jet skiing.

Even though posters of the movie are all over the place, the purported producer of the movie, Douglas Odame, has denied the fact that such a movie has been shot, but he was quick to say the musician is not the only person by name Castro.

Douglas Odame, further rubbished claims that the movie may play on the sensitivity of Ghanaians and Castro’s family, saying Castro’s photo doesn’t appear anywhere on the poster.

Speaking in an interview with Montie FM’s Eric Boateng on the Sunday Gospel Rock Show, Castro’s producer, DJ Amess, warned he would evoke curses on the producer of the movie, if he goes ahead to release the movie unto the market.

“Castro is not the first to have suffered this kind of fate. But my problem is when you try to capitalize on the incident to shot movies and make money for your selfish interest. As for the producer of the movie God will judge him…but for the sake of God, I would have evoked curses on him,” he lamented.

He said, it was time the citizenry moved away from pronouncing people dead before their time, citing rumors purporting the death of prominent people in the country, which ended up as falsehoods.

DJ Amess, is entreating all and sundry to support the family of Castro and Janet Bandu in this trying time and pray for the two to be found dead or alive.

SARKODIE DIDN’T MEAN TO INSULT THE MEDIA

Artiste Manager at Duncwills Entertainment, Sammy Forson has said that, if the media is willing to hear what Sarkodie said on #freepress, then, they would know Sarkodie didn’t mean to insult them. Sarkodie only asked the media to take their game to the next level. When asked if Duncwills signed off on the lyrics of the mixtape, Sammy said, they support their artiste 100%.

Sammy Forson also added that, the various media houses in Ghana should start seeking accreditation to cover BET and MTV events where local acts have had nominations. He compares this to artistes who works hard during the year just to get nominated by BET so Ghana is put on the map. The media, according to him is however sitting dormant and doing nothing.

Sammy Forson went ahead to compare the media in Ghana with that of Nigeria saying; “Even if a Nigerian artiste is not that good, the media in Nigeria makes them look good in the eyes of the world”

He said this during a radio interview on Top Fm over the weekend. In response to this, a member of the panel, Nana Turkson compared Sarkodie to Okyeame Kwame because, he’s able to go about his day without being a negatively discussed artiste like Sarkodie is turning out to be. He also asked Sarkodie to shut up because Anas Aremeyaw Anas has saved this country more money.

GHANAIAN MUSICIAN DEEBA WHO ALLEGEDLY DEFILED HIS STEP DAUGHTER IS UNDER HOUSE ARREST IN THE UK

Ghanaian musician-Akyampong Deeba who shot to fame during the early days of hiplife with his popular tune - 'Deeba' was arrested by Interpol after a long search last year, for allegedly defiling his 8 year old step daughter of his fiancée in the United Kingdom, between 2006 and 2008.

Ghanaian newspaper ‘New Crusading Guide’ which broke the story last year reported that (unedited):

line

“Popular Hiplife musician, Akyeampong Deeba is in the grips of INTERPOL Ghana Office of Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for defilement.

His arrest however did not come without drama, not because he was arrested by Police but because of the involvement of ace investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas and his Arabian friend, Sheikh Ibn Abu Talib.

Deeba is alleged to have repeatedly defiled his eight year old step daughter of his fiancée in the United Kingdom, between 2006 and 2008.

After years of investigations and with a fat dossier on his actions, UK INTERPOL requested their counterparts in Ghana to help arrest him. That was when our reporter was contacted to help arrest the suspect who was in the country.

According to a legal document titled ‘Summary of Evidence’ a copy of which is in the possession of the Crusading Guide newspaper, Deeba returned to Ghana from United Kingdom after living in the UK with his fiancée, with whom he has two biological kids.

His sexual exploits though were on the elder step daughter of his fiancée from an earlier relationship. The document states in parts that: “in September 2008, Akyeampong left the United Kingdom and returned to Ghana.

Two weeks after his departure, the girl (name withheld – who was now eight years old) told her mother (name withheld) that Akyeampong had been “sleeping with” her, and that he had been using his “thing.” (The mother) understood this to mean that Akyeampong had been having sex with her.”

Deeba’s actions were occasioned by the fact that he was alone with the children at their home (place withheld) because their mother worked on night shift, the reason why he moved in later to stay with the family.

Portions of the girl’s testimony to UK investigators related how he (Deeba) forced the girl to watch pornographic material before having sex with her. According to the ‘Summary of Evidence:’ “she (the young girl) stated that she had seen “white stuff” come out of his penis several occasions. She also disclosed that Akyampong had put his penis in her bottom a couple of times and that it had hurt.”

A medical examination by a forensic physician revealed later in 2009 that extensive damage had been done to the hymen of the young girl and that “there was full thickness hymenal laceration at the 5 o’clock position extending from the hymenal opening to the vaginal wall. This injury was consistent with the girl’s report of vaginal penetration, it concluded.”

THE LATEST SCOOP ON THE STORY

In a latest interview on Channel R, an accra-based radio station, the manager of Deeba, Pastor Elvis disclosed that currently, Deeba is under house arrest in UK. Because of that, Deeba can’t travel out of UK to any other country – not even his home country Ghana.

Deeba can only travel out of UK only after verdict is passed on the case by the court in UK – that is, if he is acquitted and discharged. “But we know he is innocent and so he will be found not guilty. He is mostly at home but doing well” Deeba’s manager said.

MY NAKED PICTURE WILL NOT STOP ME

Some celebrities never crack under the pressure of public criticism. Some even prove a harder nut to crack; they don’t give a hoot when lies, downright negative lies, are spun around them. They take everything in their stride and go about their normal business. One such person is TV presenter, Afia Schwarzenegger.

For several weeks now, Afia has been at the receiving end of various undesirable stories that could otherwise ruin her career. First, it was rumoured that she was HIV positive and then later, she was said to be pregnant with a man who was not her husband.

The latest scandal has been the appearance of her supposed nude picture which has been circulating in social media circles.

“It is about time people got to know that I am not moved by negative stories. Afia Schwarzenegger is bigger than such silly stuff. Anyone who seeks my downfall will never succeed because God is with me all the time” she told Showbiz on Monday.

Afia said whoever was trying to destroy her was rather making her popular. “I am rather becoming popular because of the negative stories. I may be crazy but I have my limits. I have never been pregnant with any man who is not my husband. I am not HIV positive and the said nude picture is not me”.

According to Afia Schwarzenegger, if the negative stories were even true, they would not stop her from doing what she does.

“If even I was HIV positive and pregnant, I would still have carried on with my duties. My naked picture will not stop me from doing my job. Yes, I am the crazy Afia Schwarzenegger and I am not moved by silly pranks.”

Asked why anyone would want to bring her down, Afia Schwarzenegger said: “I’m aware of the people who want to bring me down because some of them have walked up to me and told me they would do whatever it takes to bring me down.

AHUOF3 PATRI...FROM OBSCURITY TO STARDOM

It was William Shakespeare, who wrote in his book Twelfth Night that “some people are born to great, some achieve greatness and others have greatness thrust upon them”. How true this novel is!

Ahuofe Patri, who is gradually becoming a household name in the comedy industry in our dear country, is an epitome of the latter – she is making giant strides through determination, hard work and perseverance.

Teeming up successfully with Kalybos, (the only boss with one S) on the ‘Boys Kasa’ series on television, Ahuofe Patri has within a relatively short period of one year left some indelible memories in the minds of viewers.

“Halloooo babe”, “what a wow” and “Ene m3di nkwasiasɜm” are a few of the popular terms that have come to stay with some Ghanaian.

Ironically, it almost didn’t happen. Real name Priscilla Opoku Agyeman, a 23 year old level 300 student of the National Film and Television institute (NAFTI). Ahuofe Patri, at a critical point, feigned sickness to avoid being part of the cast.

“Before we shot the first episode I remember I was dodging the director but he is a very persuasive person so he was looking for me all over the place. I remember he came to my room one day and I told my roommate to tell him I was not around but he was finally able to fish me out and got me on set to get the production done”.

“Initially I was very reluctant because I had other plans – comedy wasn’t part of my dreams at all. But when the first episode got into the public domain (how I did I don’t even know) but I realized that people loved it and it was the turning point of my life.

“From then on, we were really inspired to do more and thankfully friends and well-wishers also gave us more ideas to carry on. So we continued shooting more and it was all over social media in no time”.

Ahuofe Patri said the director, Kofi Asamoah, who is also a student of NAFTI, had all the equipment so, basically, all that he needed was their time and that made everything nice and easy.

Two unforgettable events in her life were later to convince her that she was on her way to stardom. Hear her: "One day, I was in town somewhere when out of the blue, someone approached me and requested to take a picture with me. Wow, it was such a good feeling and I had goose pimples all over my body.

"Beyond that, the attention I get from kids is so fulfilling. Everywhere I go and kids see me, they scream my name - Ahuofe Patri - and within seconds, I become the centre of attraction.

"But the one that beats them all is the mobbing I got from some elderly people at a popular rice joint at Osu recently. The vendor was like Ahuof3 Patri where is your car? And that drew people's attention to me and they were really all over me.

"So these days, I am not able to do the normal things I would have loved to do. My sudden rise to fame is making me very conscious of whatever I do or say, especially in public. I feel very limited when I go out with my friends because I don't know who might be watching".

Currently pursuing her degree, Ahuofe Patri's dream is to be a Film Director and own her production company and nothing will stop her from achieving just that.

An only child of her mum/she was brought up by her mum and grandmother. "They are two strong women and you don't want to mess with them. They have taught me to stand up for myself and not to be too outspoken and those pieces of advice have been my driving force in life"

Ahuof3 Patri attended De Youngsters School at Kokomlemle and then continued to Swedru Secondary School before gaining admission into NAFTI in 2011.

She also took part in the Miss Malaika Beauty Pageant in 2011 and made it to the top 10. She said she wore a long hair at the time so people hardly recollect that she was the one.

Outside production, she is always attached to Kalybos. "We are very good friends. We are very close and we have been friends since 2011. He is like that big brother that you don't want to see but run to when you are in trouble. In one minute you are angry with him, yet the next moment, he says something funny and you are laughing and probably wouldn't realise you are not on talking terms with him.

"He is very funny and down to earth and I enjoy every moment I spend with him. I love Kalybos like a brother. I really love him very much."

She said both of them are working on other productions outside 'Boys Kasa' which will be out very soon.
What advice has she got for her peers? "Well, I think every girl needs to believe in herself. There is no mountain too high. There is no river too wide. With determination and a sense of purpose, there is no so much one can do. Let's not focus on the little things of life. Go, go for the greater things - because with God all things are possible".

Wow, it sounded like she was on the pulpit. And I could not resist saying a big 'Amen' to that.

“WE ALL DO VERY SILLY THINGS IN THE NAME OF LOVE”- GIFTY ANTI

Award winning Broadcast Journalist Gifty Anti has pleaded with Ghanaians not to judge any of the female victims involved in the numerous sex tapes and nude pictures flowing on various social media platforms in the past few weeks.

Gifty who is a strong advocate for women empowerment and a philanthropist said most of the ladies involved did what they did in the name of love and the trust they had for the men. The former GTV News Anchor said we shouldn’t treat the ladies as though they are bad girls because they are all good and responsible ladies who took the wrong decisions at the time out of excitement, adventure or trusting the wrong person.

She revealed on Neat FM’s “Entertainment Ghana” that she has had the opportunity to speak to some of the girls and even met some in person and it appears they all did what they did or allowed themselves to be filmed while having sex in the name of love.

“Everybody makes mistake and we all do very silly things in the name of love but it is about time both men and women would sit down and think about whatever we do and we should ask ourselves is it worth it, is it important before we take any action”.

Even though she refused to reveal the identity of the particular ladies she has spoken to, she told Kwasi Aboagye, host of the program that she has spoken to at least three of the girls and they all confessed that they did it for love. Adding that one of them was a virgin and her virginity was broken through this act because the man promised to marry her.

“The Stand Point” hostess said all the ladies are devastated to the extent that some of them wanted to commit suicide. She said they have all regretted their actions so much because they never thought this would happen to them for the world to see their nakedness.
“They are going through a lot they have regretted they never dreamt that these would ever come out”.

She implored that instead of victimizing the ladies and being judgmental, we should rather learn some lessons from this and advise ourselves because this can happen to any of us.

“We all have to learn something from this as a people because when we lose our phones or when our phones are damaged we send it for repairs and things we have on our phones including secret conversations, nude pictures, video and personal things when people get it, they can use it against us”.

Speaking about a campaign she is embarking on to support young ladies and empower them, Gifty said sadly in our society if a man commits adultery it is gloried but if woman does the same thing she is chastised.

“So the campaign is basically to let the young women understand that we need to know our self-worth because if a man loves you and he wants to marry you, it is not your nude picture that would make him marry you. That is not what makes a man marry a woman or love a woman. We need to let the young ladies know that mistakes are bound to happen but we cannot allow the young once to repeat their mistakes and the mistakes of the current generation”.
