The only surviving member of Hiplife
group Buk Bak, Prince Bright (Bling Sparkles) has categorically
denounced claims that the late Ronnie Coaches, a member of the group who
passed on recently was a womanizer as perceived by some Ghanaians.
“Ronnie
always kept to himself...he wasn't much of an extrovert
....unfortunately my brother is not here to defend himself so I plead
with everybody to let Ronnie rest peacefully”, Bright stated on Peace
FM's "Entertainment Review" on Thursday.
Asked if reports that
the deceased was a known womanizer had any bases, Bright said “Ronnie
respected himself very much. I respect his lifestyle, he didn't talk too
much....but he was not a womanizer”.
He added that often
musicians and famous men are perceived to be womanizers but that is not
true because he (Bright) has been a victim of such bad press regarding
relationships.
“But I always look to God...oftentimes, i am
alone in my room and I cry...There are a lot of things I hear about
Ronnie and I feel so sad but it is not everything I can respond to so I
decide to keep quiet over it”, Bright spoke amidst uncontrollable tears.
Bright added that it is very painful to hear untrue news about
Ronnie and musicians in general and made a passionate appeal to
Ghanaians to put a stop to such misinformation. He further appealed to
all to come in their numbers and show some solidarity as his late pal is
laid to rest.
"I urge all in the industry, the general public
and sympathizers to come support the funeral service for the late Ronnie
as we place him in the hands of the Almighty God," he said.
The
mortal remains of the musician, also known in real life as Ronnie Nii
Quarshikumah Quainoo, will be laid in state at the National Theatre on
Friday January 31, 2014 for all to keep wake and pay their last respect.
The National Theatre will also host a special musical concert
in honour of Ronnie Coaches on February 1. The concert will see
performances from several artistes including Prince Bright (Bling
Sparkles) and music trio, 4x4, Pope Skinny among others.
The
remains of the late musician will then be interred at the Osu Cemetery
on Saturday February 1, followed by a memorial service at the Success
Chapel, Bubuashie in Accra on Sunday, February 2.
Ronnie, 36,
died on November 21, 2013 at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital after
suffering a heart attack. Bright, who was in the same group - Buk Bak -
with Ronnie since the 1990s, flew down to Ghana from the US last
Saturday, and said the little Ghanaians can do for the late musician, is
to turn out in their numbers for the funeral.
A teary Bright admitted that the Hiplife group will never be the same after Ronnie's demise.

Actress Zynnell Lydia Zuh’s decision
to remain behind the cameras as a movie producer appears shaky as she
has told NEWS-ONE that production is more stressful than she expected.
The beautiful actress announced in October last year that she was going into movie production after 10 years of acting.
The
pronouncement came with the production of her first movie titled, ‘When
Love Comes Around’ starring Jim Iyke and Eku Edewor from Nigeria,
Pierra Makena (Kenya) among others.
The movie which was produced
by Zynnell’s Five Star Pictures Production, is currently on the editing
bench and would hit the big screens very soon.
According to
Zynnell, though producing her first movie was stressful, she would not
give up on producing because she had come to love the process of
filmmaking.
“Producing has made me appreciate the filmmaking
process more as I am more involved with all the aspects of filmmaking…As
an actress my job is limited to reading the script, understanding the
story, my character and delivering once I hear ‘action’. But as a
producer, my responsibilities include script choice, assembling the
right cast and crew and finding markets and opportunities for the film
as soon as it is ready. Will I produce again?…Hmmm. If I think about the
stress of producing my first film I would say no but I have come to
love the process of filmmaking and I am sure if I find a story worth
telling I would do this all over again. Besides, it gets easier the more
you do it right,” she said.
Zynnell has been in Ghana’s movie
industry since 2004. After high school, she began auditioning for roles.
She auditioned for a lead role in TV series titled ‘Sticking To The
Promise’ by Point Blank Media.
Fortunately, she won the role,
playing a twin to another actress. From there, she was discovered by
Director/Producer Shirley Frimpong-Manso, who auditioned and featured
her in ‘Different Shades of Blue’ TV series and a cameo role in her
movie, ‘Life and Living It’. She has since featured in a number of
Ghanaian movies.
It is that time of the year once
again where musicians from all walks of life will try all ways and means
with the aim of winning awards in Ghana Music Awards.
As we wait
for nominations to close in the next two weeks ahead of us, it is
obvious that artistes and their managers are also trying all angles and
corners to canvass for votes should they be nominated after all said and
done. In moments like this, people in the media are often used to
achieve this aim of what we want to term propaganda and campaign season.
Who
said politicians are the only people who canvass for votes in this
country, people in the entertainment industry also do it when it is time
for awards. Our only concern is that, whilst this propaganda and
campaigning will be on going, we also suggest to musicians and their
managers to be circumspect not to brand people outside their “scope” as
their enemies.
The so called battle between Flex newspaper and
Herty Borngreat was born out of this situation where our managing editor
on a platform suggested that another artiste was stronger than her in
last year`s Ghana Music Awards. Her then manager DJ Sarpee never took
this suggestion cool and responded in a way that sparked unnecessary
“war” between these two brands.
As much as we will be dealing
with some people on radio and television review platforms who will be
speaking in our favour, we should also be ready to accept the ones who
might speak not in our favour. Again, we should not as artistes or
managers assume that whoever does not speak in our favour does not like
us.
Yes, as much as some of the comments might sound destructive,
there are always lessons that can be squeezed out of their “nonsense”
if we want to, rather than only maintaining the negativity without any
second thought of their impact and relevance.
Entertainment
critics, observers and watchers should also make it a point to research
on songs which will be nominated before commenting on them as some
people are known to be making ignoramus commentary sometimes on some
topics.
Because we all desire the good of the industry, it
behooves on us to learn on the subject matter being discussed before
making comments that are inflammatory and have the power to spark
unnecessary controversies before the awards day.
