SARKODIE TO STOP “BRAGGING” IN 2014

Concerns about Ghana’s fastest rapper and award winning hip hop artiste, Sarkodie, being a braggart when it comes to his lyrics in recent times has been heeded to by the artiste who expresses guilt in response.

The rap smitten Sarkodie, accepted he was overly indicative of his successes through his lyrics with mentions of riches, cars, travels and women which he accused the nature of the work he does.

The BET Best International Act for Africa revealed on the KSM's TGIF Show that his work hovers around subjects which make up the lyrical content of songs he produces.

He said the period his fans complained about him bragging was when he actually took up the topic of riches while putting himself in the story.

“This is done everywhere and doesn’t mean I am better than others”, he told KSM assuring his fans to expect a different topic in his lyrics this year which would be mainly about his life as Sarkodie.

When asked about his desire for international fame, he said he has been studying the international hip hop terrain and hopes to fuse their beats to the domestic one so as to appeal to the market out there.

He added that he could attend international music events and take pictures with top stars but instead wants to concentrate on making his music better so that he would be looked out for wherever he is to be part of their events.

MUSIC PRODUCER ARRESTED FOR PIRACY

The Police on Tuesday afternoon arrested a seasoned music producer and former General Secretary of the Ghana Association of Phonograph Industry (GAPI), Francis Mensah Twum, suspected to be a member of a syndicate that sells musical works of Ghanaian musicians on the internet without approval from the right owners.

Francis Mensah Twum, who is also the project coordinator of GAPI, an association made up of music producers, was arrested by the police at the office of the association located at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.

The arrest was made following complaints from a number of Ghanaian musicians and some stakeholders to the Music Council of Ghana that their musical works were being pirated and sold on the internet without their approval.

According to the President of the council, Ekow Micah, who is also a victim, after the council’s own investigation, he led a team of police personnel to arrest Twum.

He told BEATWAVES Mensah Twum had collaborated with a website to upload over 5,000 Ghanaians songs online for sale and is generating $10,000 every month.

According to Ekow Micah, thousands of musical works belonging to Ghanaian musicians are being sold online without the approval of the right owners, hence, the arrest of Mensah Twum.

I WILL BE VERY DISAPPOINTED IF I DON'T WIN AN AWARD - BISA KDEI

One of Ghana’s biggest music discoveries of 2013, Bisa Kdei has indicated he would be much disappointed should he not pick up any award at the 14th edition of the Ghana Music Awards which comes up soon.

The Give it to Baba hit maker who enjoyed massive rotation with his songs on several platforms across the country in an interview with Luv FM’s Reuben Afriyie disclosed he picked up nomination forms in anticipation of being nominated and winning at least five awards at the event.

Bisa Kdei who sounded very optimistic disclosed he believed none deserved highlife song of the year, popular song of the year, artist of the year and album of the year album awards than himself and would be surprised not win any award on the night.

Although he sounded very optimistic at one point during the interview, Bisa Kdei was quick to state that he would not really fret over not winning an award should it happen as the awards was tagged “Vodafone Ghana Music Awards” and not “Ghana Music Awards”.

He explained the association of a brand could determine who wins the award and would wish it would be solely Ghana Music Awards to fully represent the choice of the Ghanaian music lovers.

Could Bisa Kdei know something we are not aware of?

I WILL BEAT MY ARTISTE IF HE/SHE LOOKS DOWN ON ME - BULLDOG

Artiste manager and CEO of Bull Haus Entertainment, Lawrence Nana Asiama Hanson (Bulldog) has warned that he wouldn't hesitate to beat up any artiste he manages should the artiste look down on him.

According to Bulldog, as an artiste manager, he will accord him or her the needed respect in all matters and expects same from the artiste.

Speaking on Rhythmz A-Z on Joy FM Saturday, hosted by Nii Ayi Tagoe, the Bull House CEO stressed that he will physically attack the artiste should the artiste disrespect him.

"It is not a smooth journey and I've always been open with the artistes. I face my problems but I don't have any artiste looking down on me, when you do that [I will beat you] and I will walk away after punching you," he said.

When Okraku Mantey, who was also a guess on the show, interjected that "so those of us who don't have body" what should they do?, Bulldog quickly advised that, "Then, this is not your field... go to the hospital."

"You are not cut out for this [then] you should be doing gospel music," he added.
Bulldog noted that it takes a lot guts to manage an artiste and if one is not prepared mentally and physically, they shouldn't venture.

Over the years, the Bull House CEO has managed several musicians including VIP, 5Five, Iwan, and Shatta Wale (Bandana), with some of the management contracts ending controversially.

Other panelists - Francis Doku, Nana Turkson, Ken Addy - on the show shared a common view that people should not rush into artiste management without having the needed understanding of the job.
They also urged that there should be a proper agreement between the two parties - the artiste and the manager - before the relationship starts.

ASKING ME WHAT I’M WEARING ON RED CARPET ANNOYS ME – KWAISEY PEE

Television station, Viasat 1, on Sunday 17th Feb, 2014, took introspection into celebrities in Ghana and the whole red carpet orientation.

In the said bulletin, highlife musician Kwaisey Pee was asked if he’s ever been embarrassed on a red carpet before. “I respect the red carpet but asking me what I’m wearing annoys me. Why should you ask me what I’m wearing? What is the motive? I don’t like being asked that question at all,” Kwaisey Pee intimated.

Kwaisey Pee was not the only celebrity who was interviewed. John Dumelo gave his worst embarrassment as being a day his boxers overlapped onto his trousers whilst being interviewed. “I deliberately made some Alkayida move just to cover things up,” John said.

Usually, one hackneyed question hosts or presenters who host celebrities in Ghana on the red carpet ask is “who are you wearing?” As equivocal as the question is, some celebrities are able to understand and answer, whilst others end up being embarrassed – “what do you mean?” the perplexed ones ask.

Though the orientation of red carpet actually started from Africa, the west who adapted it has rules regarding what should be done or shouldn't be done on the red carpet. Unfortunately, all Ghanaian celebrities flout such rules.

Editor of GhanaCelebrities.Com, Chris-Vincent Agyapong Febiri, once posted it on this site some time ago what most of our Ghanaian Celebrities get wrong on the Red carpet.

To me, the whole orientation of red carpet in Ghana is a waste of time, based on two reasons. First, it drags events unnecessarily, making organizers start events late and secondly, the red carpet adds no relevance to the events. If it must be continued, it must be done well.

POLITICIAN TURNS GOSPEL MUSICIAN

A rising name in Ghanaian politics and promising social commentator has turned his attention to music in addition to his already growing political career.

The National Youth Coordinator of Paa Kwesi Nduom’s Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Mr. Divine Nkrumah speaking in an exclusive interview with Peacefmonline.com said he has not stopped politics but he believes music is a universal language so he can take his political career further by communicating his political messages and his thoughts on social and national issues through music.

According to Devine, besides having the talent to sing, music is a great medium to spread information, share opinions and give people hope.

The young politician with the PPP has indicated that his albums would be free to download from various downloadable sites. He also disclosed that he will release five singles ahead of the album release. The five singles he said are the giant steps to a brighter future which would showcase how versatile he is as a politician.

He further urged Ghanaians to make use of the message of the song, which according to him, call for a change in the political and social lives of Ghanaians.

Mr. Nkrumah said his passion and talent for the music industry led to the composition of the rhythms and was of the opinion that more would follow after the launch as a means of telling Ghanaians never to give up in life but always wait for the best.

“I am not quitting politics for the music industry but I will combine the two, in effort to get my messages across to the Ghanaians,” Mr. Nkrumah assured.

GIRLS GIVE ME PRESSURE – PRINCE DAVID OSEI

Prince David Osei is one of Ghana’s few actors who have managed to break into the European movie market.

His popularity soared in 2010 when he starred in The Dead, a zombie horror film.
In this interview with NEWS-ONE’s Francis Addo, David spoke about his new international movie, ‘Nanameansking’ directed by a Ghanaian in the UK, the massive pressure he gets from his female fans and the fact that  he will not hesitate to act nude if the role is relevant to the story and makes sense to him. Please read on:

How did your Valentine celebration go on Friday?
Sadly I am not a fan of Val’s Day but I had lunch at Movenpick with loved ones and proceeded to church in the evening. Boring I guess.

Any specific reason why you are not a fan of Val’s Day?
Don’t believe a date should be set aside for me to show my love. I do it on a daily basis.

Sounds like you are a love expert.
Say that again ha ha ha.

How true is the assertion that public figures are not committed to one lover and are promiscuous?
It’s funny how people judge public figures because we are exposed. People who are not in the public eyes do worse things but it’s cool because they are not known. On the promiscuity issue, it depends; when you see me with a girl it doesn’t necessarily mean I am sleeping with her. She might be a friend, my sister or my aunty. I won’t lie though that the pressure from female fans is massive. But I remain professional. I don’t fraternize with them. It’s just normal for women to adore and appreciate stars or public figures because of fame but it’s not true we are promiscuous; we don’t misbehave because we know the spotlight is on us.
How do you deal with pressure from ladies?
Sometimes I am nice and chat with them. Sometimes too I could be extremely rude (lol) when they pressure me too much. I take it normal and understand the fact that if I wasn’t a star they won’t love me.

Who is the woman in David’s life?
See this guy oooh (laugh). No woman for now.
That’s not true.
True.

Who is the beautiful female who has been guiding you lately?
My issue is complicated bro. That’s my manager. But soon, I will settle down.

How is the year 2014 going?
Well, I am about to shoot my own movie. I have a lot of travels to do to the US and Europe. I have movie premieres to attend in US, and Europe for the movie Nanameansking. I also have my humanitarian work to do as Ambassador for United Against Child Poverty campaign in Africa. I have projects and movies to shoot both locally and internationally. 2014, so far, so good. It is packed. Thanks to God.

What will you consider your biggest achievement last year?
Nanameansking movie and winning the hottest Nollywood Actor City People award, PAMSAA award, Nigeria, Most Favourite Actor of the year at Ghana Movie Awards 2013.
What do awards mean to you?
Recognition.
Why did you choose acting career?
I didn’t choose acting, it chose me (laugh).
How?
I had the passion from teenage days but didn’t know I could make a living out of it.

How did you finally enter?
I entered through TV commercials and the help of Ivan Quashigah who gave me my maiden appearance in his series Fortune Island.

So far which movie has been your biggest production?
The Dead followed by Nanameansking.

We don’t know about Nanameansking.
That’s my latest movie. It was shot in London December and will premiere in April.

Why do you consider it a major movie?
Because I played the lead and the role I played is different from every role I have ever played. It is very emotional. It is not the lover boy kind of role. This movie stars actors from Ukraine, Brazil, Germany, London, Italy, South Africa and Canada. It is directed by a Ghanaian in the UK. There is more information on the website www.nanameansking.com.

I’m wondering what your role is about.
You can find character profile and expectation on the site. I played the role of an illegal immigrant in UK.
Have you ever regretted playing any role in your career?
Sure, when I first started acting. I was naïve then. I was naïve because I had just joined the industry so I see it as normal. In every endeavour you will make mistakes and grow later.
What was bad about those roles?
The whole production didn’t make sense, not just the role. That’s why now I’m very selective.  Sometimes actors are criticised over roles they play. People judge me by the wicked and lover-boy roles. What I do in movies is not who I am. It’s an act. I guess I do it convincingly, that’s why I get such feedback.
Is there a particular role that people criticise you about?
The role I played in Heart Of Men.

Has Prince played nude before?
Yea in the movies; Dons Of Sakawa and Crazy.
Will you play such a role again?
If connected to the story and makes real sense.
What do you consider about a script before accepting roles?
Storyline and character.

Tell us about Prince David the teenager and his schools.
I attended De Youngsters School, Accra High School and finally to the University of Ghana, Legon. As a teenager, I was a bit troublesome.
Where is David from?
I am from Konongo and Asante Bekwai.
What are some of your childhood memories?
Playing football, very stubborn (laugh) but studious. Very precocious as a teenager.

What makes David different from other actors?
My mindset, my belief, my personality and the acknowledgement of the fact that without God I’m nothing and wouldn’t have come this far.

What opinions do you want to share about the movie industry?
It’s a great industry that helps to project the culture, norms and tradition of Ghana but I think presently our industry is going down. We need funds. We lack good and dedicated producers and filmmakers.

What are they not doing right and what’s the way forward?
We need high level production cinematic films, good storylines that will address societal ills and project the positive image of Ghana. We can only achieve this with money and producers who understand the game.

Is it a big deal for Ghanaians to act in Nollywood?
I have done quite a number of movies in Nollywood. The reason I don’t feature more has got to do with money issues. Producers there always want to swindle.

Thanks for your time.
Cheers, pleasure is mine.

YVONNE IS UNGRATEFUL – ODOI MENSAH

Nii Odoi Mensah, President of the Ghana Actors Guild (GAG) has described actress Yvonne Nelson as a very ungrateful person in response to her recent statement that the Guild did not come to her rescue when she was banned from acting by the Film Producers of Ghana (FIPAG) in 2010.

“When my issue came up, the Actors Guild did nothing for me. They only came, sat, had some meetings and that was all. They did nothing for me,” Yvonne Nelson stated when she appeared on the Hanging Out With KOD television show over the weekend.

Yvonne went ahead to acknowledge Majid Michel, Frank Rajah and Fred Nuamah as persons who came to her rescue.
This has however not gone down well with the GAG president who has challenged the credibility of Yvonne’s statement.

“If Yvonne Nelson really said that, then she is a very ungrateful person and I would be very disappointed in her. If she was able to say that the Actors Guild did nothing for her when FIPAG banned her, then I have to fear human beings. How can she say such a thing when there are records, witnesses and documents to prove that the Guild did a lot for her when the issue came up?

“I personally like that actress a lot so when her issue came up, we went out of our way and held several meetings with FIPAG, pleading with them to drop the ban. You can call any executive of FIPAG to ask about this and they would tell you that the Actors Guild was very instrumental in getting the ban reversed.

“Meanwhile Yvonne Nelson would not even attend meetings or pay her dues. But we still stood behind her, pleaded on her behalf and got the ban reversed,” Odoi Mensah disclosed on Neat FM Tuesday morning.

Socrates Safo, who was the Public Relations Officer (PRO) for FIPAG at the time Yvonne was banned, also confirmed that FIPAG revoked the ban on the actress because of the pleas from the Ghana Actors Guild.

During the arbitration, there was a time FIPAG even got angry with the Actors Guild for being over protective of Yvonne and defending her when she would not even attend any of the mediation meetings in person, Socrates said.

Yvonne Nelson, apart from her comments about the Actors Guild, has also expressed annoyance at celebrated broadcaster Kwasi Kyei Darko (KKD) for saying that her changed skin colour is very noticeable and makes her appear different from how she looked in the past.

I'LL NOT APOLOGISE...I'VE NEVER REGRETTED CAMPAIGNING FOR PREZ MAHAMA

Ghanaian actor, Clement Bonney aka Mr. Beautiful, is still seething with anger over the obvious snub from local movie directors, who have refused to use him in any of their movies due to his political affiliation.

In December 2013, Mr. Beautiful accused Kumasi-based movie producers for sideliningg him for openly displaying his political colours and rallying behind the then National Democratic Congress’ Presidential candidate (NDC), John Mahama during the 2012 Presidential elections.

Following his accusation, movie producer, Paul Gee, admonished him on some of the steps he should take in order for him to start shooting movies again. In a chat with Mr. Beautiful, he confirmed to "Razz" that the misunderstanding between him and the Kumasi-based producers has not been solved because he deems the advice Paul Gee gave him as illogical.

According to him, he was livid when Paul Gee asked him to apologize to the Kumasi producers for his choice to campaign for President Mahama; an advice he rejected. “I have never regretted campaigning for John Mahama. It’s better for me to put my job on the line for Prez Mahama. I have never lost anything after the campaign.”

“Things are very positive for me, so I see no need of going to beg them,” Mr. Beautiful told this paper. To him, the fact that he’s not on screen like he used too, doesn’t mean he’s not active. He claimed to be doing lot of work in the movie industry.

Mr. Beautiful proved his relevance in the industry by claiming that, 3 months ago, he produced a TV Drama Series for TV3 in which he effected changes and roped in some commercials from huge corporate firms including Telecom Company, Globacom (GLO).

Talking about his plans to shoot his own movies in future, he stated that although many people are claiming that NDC has to sponsor him before he can get work to do, he personally sees no reason why a political party should support him, because he didn’t work for the party but worked for John Mahama.

Mr. Beautiful went on to talk about the vacuum created in the movie industry due to producers refusal to use him. “If Kumasi producers need quality content and they are serious with the movie business, they will not sideline me. I will not say they are illiterates but they are playing politics with the business,” he said.

On the producers playing politics with the movie business, 'Beautiful' explained that, the producers claim Kumasi is a haven for NPP; therefore if any actor is on the side of NDC, he or she would be sidelined because that person is perceived as an opponent.

He also asserted that the producers are now using gospel musician, Great Ampong to shoot Kumasi films, because they believe he’s affiliated to NPP and might attract the NPP supporters or market.

Finally, Mr. Beautiful threw a salvo at the producers by claiming that they are immature. “Their actions show their level of maturity and those who are doing that are not mature because if they are, they will not act the way they are acting,” he snarled.

I CAN'T DATE ANY BLACK STARS PLAYER...THEY HAVE ALL BEEN USED, MISUSED & ABUSED

Allsports.com.gh (ASG) writer Nana Afrane Asante caught up with Valentine Diamond Nana Agyeiwaa, host of the Afia Schwarzenegger talk show on ETV and Kokooko on UTV as she shares her views on sports in Ghana.

She believes the Black Stars will be a failure at the World Cup and thinks Akwasi Appiah doesn’t have a mind of his own as head coach of the team. She’s also got a new name for her darling club Accra Hearts of Oak and check out her reasons for wanting to date the Sports minister.

ASG: Are you a sports fan?

AS: Yes and No

ASG: Why yes and no?

AS: You don’t put your heart into sports in a country like Ghana especially football because it can cause you cardiac imprisonment which may lead you to your grave but when it comes to the English Premier league, then I support Chelsea.

ASG: Which is your favorite sport?

AS: Wrestling because I love to see people beating people.

ASG: Have you ever tried wrestling?

AS: No I haven’t because I don’t want to have scratches on my body. I have always been a “DADA BA” so I take good care of my body.

ASG: Do you watch the Black Stars play?

AS: I do and it’s quite annoying. I say that because they are very predictable and every Ghanaian knows we will only get to a certain stage in a tournament and it’s even worse when we don’t have our star players. From what I know, Coach Akwasi Appiah in some cases prophesizes that he is going out there to lose a game. Let’s take a look at our opponents Germany, Portugal and the USA, can you tell me who we can beat? I don’t see that happening. My advice to Ghanaians is that they should support Berekum Chelsea rather than put their hopes in the Black Stars because there is no hope in them and I can tell you we will come home early.

ASG: Who are we?

AS: I’m surprised you don’t know who they are. Well it’s the Black Stars and that’s it.

ASG: Who are your favorite Black Stars Players?

AS: Sulley Muntari is my favorite and I say that because he is a game changer. Dede Ayew isn’t bad too but Asamoah Gyan seems to be more focused on music than his footballing career. He prefers to be seen on TV dancing and shaking his buttocks with his Otto Pfister pants showing and it’s very worrying. The hip life has gotten so much into his head that he seems to have lost interest in football. A player like Kevin might be a difficult person but he is definitely a good player.

ASG: Do you believe in Akwasi Appiah?

AS: I do and I don’t because he makes certain decisions on and off the pitch which reminds me of a certain President I know who was being controlled by a remote control during his time in office and that’s exactly the same problem Akwasi Appiah is facing. I strongly suspect he is being controlled by a remote which puts us in danger going into this World Cup. I still believe we have a 98% chance of coming back home in the first round.

ASG: Which player would you like to date?

AS: Eeeiiii Black Stars players? They have all been used, misused and abused so there is no way I can date any of them so I will rather go in for the sports minister who has already promised me a trip to Brazil to watch the world cup when I was the mc for the 1963 Black Star squad meeting. I want him to know that if he doesn’t fulfill his promise, I will let the gods deal with him.

ASG: What local team do you support?

AS: Hearts of SHOCK

ASG: Which team is Hearts of SHOCK?

AS: Hmmmm, the Phobian club we all know. They are breaking my heart and I want the coach to be sacked. My advice to him is that he should quit before he gets beaten by we the supporters. I am sure he will be fired also after he’s taken some beating from us.

ASG: What is your general impression about sports in Ghana?

AS: Sports is the only activity which takes away tribalism, violence, religious differences and every other negative so I think we should encourage it in our schools especially. I am would have loved to see some of my friends like Kwaw Kesse and Shatawele play football which would have been beautiful.

Sports in Ghana have developed and a lot more attention should be given to it and this is where I plead with the GFA to release the monies to promote the local league. Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi has to know that god is watching his every move with the money so he should be careful. That’s my advice but I am ready to be an ambassador for the team in Brazil only if I am paid a winning bonus.

"TIME WILL TELL" ...KKD ADVISES ALL BLACKS BLEACHING THEIR SKIN

Ace Ghanaian broadcaster Mr. Kwasi Kyei Darkwa aka KKD ‘The Finest’ has reacted after Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson stated in an interview with KOD on GH One Entertainment TV that she is disappointed in KKD for making some comments on Peace FM’s “Entertainment Review” that she (Yvonne) is bleaching.

“And I heard that KKD said in an interview that I have bleached my skin. I am so disappointed in him”, Yvonne said.

KKD has in response (though Indirect) to Yvonne’s interview, sent a word of advice to all black celebrities and public personalities who use chemicals to change their skin colour.

Read full unedited words KKD pasted on facebook this morning:

"Black is beautiful.
Love the skin you are in. If you have bad rashes, deal with them through a doctor and his/her medical prescriptions.
But please SAY NO TO BLEACHING!

Many otherwise pretty women today have weak skins on burnt faces, bosoms, arms, thighs and legs caused by the bleaching they denied they were doing in their youth.

As global warming makes our part of the world even hotter, and skins in tropical climes get darker to better protect us from the harsh rays of the sun, daughters of a proud black nation that spearheaded the independence revolution south of the unforgiving Sahara desert are getting quizzically lighter. Hmmmm.

Whilst bleaching remains off the radar in many educated & well-to-do African and Caribbean homes, it is saddening that the poor, illiterates in dire need of any passing act to imitate may just photocopy this needless practice of bleaching to the point where their elbows and knees will be nearly opposite in complexion to their cheeks and bosoms. Men, women, boys and girls are equally gullible as evidenced by some performers and their herd of sheep.

Black comes in many beautiful shades and hues; from the deepest ebony and mahogany to the richest chocolate and the softest caramel. From the beautiful and dignified Lupita Nyong'o, the dark and lovely Ini Edo and Emelia Brobbey through the sweet and sexy Jackie Appiah and Martha Ankomah, the classy Mrs Beyonce Carter, Mrs Afua Amoah Amofah And Halle Berry to the happy Juliet Ibrahim and Tracee Ellis Ross and many many more popular and unknown.

It is possible to be born this way and to LOVE THE BLACK YOU ARE IN.
As for the drunk who refuses to heed the barman's caution about another one for the road, he still has a homeward journey and the whole of tomorrow to contend with. Skin, like hips, don't lie. Ask the blessed Michael Jackson. Time will tell."

PHOTOS: HOW ACTOR LIL WIN CELEBRATED VALENTINE’S DAY!

If there is one thing that popular Kumasi based actor Kojo Nkansah a.k.a DJ Lil Win, has ever wanted to do, it is to put smiles on the faces of the needy, especially physically and mentally challenged children and he did just that on February 14 when he celebrated Valentine Day’s with kids from the New Horizon and Dzorwulu Special Schools in Accra.

Not only did the humorous actor danced and interacted with the children but he also presented assorted food items and an undisclosed amount of money on behalf of F&B Consult and Cocoa Processing Company (CPC) limited to the two schools.

He also used the opportunity to officially invite the children to the KIDS PLAY AND LEARN WITH LIL WIN’, event which comes off at the El-Wak stadium on Saturday, February 22, 2014.

According to Lil Wayne, he chose to celebrate his Valentine’s Day with the kids because of the special liking he has for them. “I love kids especially the challenged ones from Dzorwulu and New Horizon schools with all my heart and I thought the best way to make the occasion a special one for them was to join them to celebrate’.
