LIL WIN RIDES THE WAVES ONCE MORE

Actor Lil Win has slowly but steadily come back to claim the space he must have lost last May when his major stage performance at the Accra International Conference Centre was mired in controversy.

During his performance on the popular Ghana Meets Naija show, Lil Win had introduced the subject of marijuana and before he could fully explain his intentions, producers of the show yanked him off the stage to avoid any complicity and embarassment.

Speaking with Showbiz last week, Lil Win said the incident almost ruined his career. “It took the intervention of my friends and family members to bring me back from the shock. Had it not been them, I don’t think I would have been able to pull myself together and come back from the shock”.

According to the 28-year-old actor, he avoided everyone and wept in his room for many days after the incident. Lil Win said that, he had close to five movies to shoot during that period but he had to put them on hold to deal with his rather emotional situation.

“Movie producers who had already paid me for my services became angry I was not picking their calls. I had to explain to the producers later that I had some pressing issues I needed to take care of.

“I will forever be grateful to my friends and family members who consoled me to put the past behind me and move forward,” he said.

He said that since his return to business, he has been involved in a number of movie productions such as For Girls, Mama Africa, Yéme Adom, Bronii Hiani, Mmaa Pé Awareé and has also made several appearances on live stage including the Fetu Afahye in Cape Coast and his recent tour in the U.S

Asked what has kept him going in his career, Lil Win who is now also into music, said he learns a lot from others. “I watch foreign and Nigerian comedies to stay on top of my game.

When I am not shooting, I stay in my room watching comedy movies to improve on what I know.

“More so, I try not to repeat my jokes in order to stay relevant all the time. I have come to realise that Ghanaians want to hear something different from me so I make it my business to always learn new jokes to entertain them” he said.

Talking about his music career, Lil Win who has featured on Stay Jay’s Feelings, Guru’s Boys Abre and now in the studio with Bisa Kdei said he loved to rap when he was young.

He explained that music was what he initially wanted to do but he found himself rather acting.

According to him, Ghanaians should watch out for his album come December this year.

CARLOS SAKYI RECEIVES DEATH THREATS

Reports reaching BEATWAVES indicate that the erstwhile Chairman of Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) and Copyright Advocate, Carlos Sakyi, has been warned to stay away from GHAMRO or risk losing his life.

According to the reports, the copyright advocate within two months or so had
received a number of phone calls and text messages on his phone from unknown people threatening to kill him if he continues to involve himself in the activities of GHAMRO.

Speaking to BEATWAVES,the visibly baffled Carlos Sakyi stated that on Friday, July 25, 2014 at around 3:00pm a few hours after the High Court (Human Rights Division) presided over by His Lordship Justice Kofi Essel-Mensah adjourned the GHAMRO court hearing to October 30 2014, he received two calls from what sounded like a man speaking in a very harsh tone, sternly warning him to stay away from GHAMRO or risk losing his life.

The person then followed up with a text message which read: “If you want to enjoy the rest of your life, please move from GHAMRO issues ok.”

According to Carlos, he without delay informed his lawyer A.K Bannerman Williams Jnr who advised him to immediately report the death threat to the police.

He subsequently lodged a formal complaint at the Central Police Station in Accra to an officer in-charge, Inspector Ariel, who assigned one Corporal Richard Akorli to the case.

Carlos added that he had been given full assurance by the police that they were treating the matter with utmost seriousness particularly in the light of the recent cold-blooded murder of music industry artiste manager, Fennec Okyere.

He said, “God is my witness and protector and He knows I have worked tirelessly to improve the lives of music rights owners and that I managed GHAMRO with absolute integrity and transparency.”

The former GHAMRO chairman cautioned the media to cross check facts before publication and not allow themselves to be used by unscrupulous per-sons with selfish interests.

PRODUCER WHO DEMANDED SEX BEFORE PRODUCING FEMALE GOSPEL MUSICIAN EXPOSED

Promising Ghanaian female gospel musician - Anita Afriyie, disclosed to Razz Newspaper last week that, some male gospel music producers sleep or demand sex with/from female gospel musicians before producing them.

In her words, Anita alleged: “It’s something that has been going on for years but people get scared voicing it out fearing they will get enemies from society and the industry, but since it’s a question you are asking me, I have no other option than to tell you the truth.”

She confirmed she knows some musicians who have given in for some producers to sleep with them and have gotten what they want. “I can mention their names but it’s not too necessary. One of the main reasons why I’m telling you the truth is that, it is not a good thing – they must put a stop to,” she intimated.

However, when she was interviewed on Channel R’s ‘205 Total Entertainment’ last Friday (19th Sept, 2014), host of the programme, Christian Agyei Frimpong, proved to all and sundry why he is amongst the best radio interviewers in the capital.

After many attempts by Christian for Anita to mention the name of the producer who once demanded sex from her, Christian asked her, which of your albums did you face this sexual-advance challenge from?

Anita who had earlier stated that the man who produced her third album was Kumasi based producer by name Asteve, answered; “It was my third album. The album could not come out because the producer demanded for sex which I declined because it’s against my Christian teachings.”

Speaking on NEAT FM’s ‘Entertainment Ghana’ today, 23rd Sept, 2014, Anita who had revealed that it’s Asteve who demanded sex from her, took a U-turn to say she never said so. When Christian Agyei Frimpong was called, he confirmed Anita alleged so on his platform. When Kwasi Aboagye ‘drilled’ her properly, Anita finally admitted to the shock of all listeners that “it’s Asteve.”

For Asteve’s (real name Steven Asiedu) side of the story, Ghanacelebrities.com contacted him and to our utter dismay, he said all that Anita revealed to the public is false! According to Asteve, “I usually don’t go looking for artists to produce – they usually come to me. I met Anita through recommendation from George Forest, Demako, and one producer by name Agya Koo.

“Between the times I started recording Anita and promotion, Anita, who claims she is an angelic being, had started flirting with my younger blood brother – an act I frowned upon and asked them to put an end to!

“I only introduced my younger brother to her as someone who will mange her. As soon as she saw my brother, she accepted to let him manage her. There were times Anita who is suppose to be a gospel musician would tell me and his family that she’s going to pray and fast on the mountains.

“I will go to my brother’s room and meet Anita, wearing nightie on the bed! I met her in such act many times! She was flirting with my blood brother so I thought her actions were not auspicious for me to invest in her as a gospel artist. I stopped investing in her album!

“Go and ask her how she got married to my brother. As a gospel musician she got pregnant for my brother – so to cover her stinking deeds up, she forced my brother who had nothing then to marry her. That is how come they married! Again, go and ask her, whether myself, and my siblings attended her marriage to my brother! None of us were there!”

Ending, Asteve said “the simple question I want all to ask is, if I had sex with her, then why is she married to my blood brother? Because if I had sex with her, and she is now married to my own blood brother, then she is a cheap lady!

“Am I wrong? How can you sleep with two brothers at the same time, and after, marriage one? She only wants hype! Unfortunately, the hype has turned into a dagger, on which she has fallen on. There is more I can expose about this lady.”

Anita’s husband is however denying that her wife mentioned Asteve's name in the whole saga. Ghanacelebrities is still following up on this story for any update. Until then… MOTWUM!!

I DIDN’T FIGHT MY LOVER OVER SEX POSITION

A former Deputy Minister of Communication, Victoria Hamah, has described as ‘outrageous’ news reports that she fought with her boyfriend over sex positions.

She was surprised such comment will emerge especially as she is single and does not have any boyfriend.

A few days ago, Victoria Hamah reported her boyfriend, Richard Frimpong-Dardo to the police for allegedly assaulting and stealing from her.

When the police got hold of her said boyfriend, he denied stealing from her but added that he had an argument with the former Deputy Minister over a particular sex position she wanted and which he couldn’t give her.

But speaking to Bola Ray in an interview on STAR FM, Vicky Hamah denied that such an incident occurred, saying “I heard something about a sex position? It’s outrageous… I am searching and waiting to be proposed to”

CHRISTIANA LOVE GRABS NEW HUSBAND

Popular gospel musician Christiana Love, now known as Obaapa Christy, is reported to have recently married a new husband and even delivered a baby girl for him although her marriage with Pastor Love, the father of her three children, is yet to be officially dissolved.

Interestingly, Christiana's new husband, whose name was given as Nana Frankie, is the same man she was accused of flirting with as far back as 2011 while she was still married to Pastor Love Hammond, General Overseer of the Life Power Miracle Church.

Pastor Love, sounding heart-broken over the development, in an interview with News-One on Tuesday said no court has officially dissolved his marriage with Christiana and he does not see how she would give birth for another man and then allow the man to marry her.

He described the development as unbiblical, unlawful and unaccepted.

"Now the truth is out that the things I was saying in 2011 were all true. The man she is married to even has a wife; her name is Auntie Kate from Kumasi Tafo. She called me on phone and told me her husband and my wife were flirting in Germany but when I called the man he denied and when I asked my wife she got angry and said she won't marry me anymore," Pastor Love told said in an interview.

He added: "Recently I heard Christiana and the man, Nana Frankie, had returned to Ghana and were staying at Kasoa Kalabule and when I did my checks, she has given birth for him. A baby girl, and he has married her ooo.

He has married my wife. Even my wife's sister has come out to confirm on radio that my wife has married another man. My wife ooo."

When News-One asked Pastor Love why he has not yet officially divorced his wife, he said he does not understand the reason the wife demanded a break up.

"I told you I rejected the drinks when they first brought it because I do not know why my wife, with whom I have three children, would come one day and say she won't marry me anymore simply because I had told the world she was flirting with another man," he noted.

News-One was not able to reach Christiana for a response but the 'Razz' newspaper quoted her to have said she does not really care about what people say about the development.

"People are saying 1 gave birth, so what? Ghanaians talk too much, especially on matters that have no bearing on their lives. I am not concerned about what they say about me as I am focused on stuff that will uplift my music...One should not pay attention to what people say. What is said about you will not make you," she was quoted.

Christiana and her husband who doubles as her manager, Pastor Love, became a topic of major discussion in 2011 when the two publicly counter accused each other of reckless adultery and unrestrained infidelity.

The female musician accused her pastor-husband of continuous domestic violence and alleged he had impregnated a church member.

Even then, Pastor Love said he had not decided to divorce his wife and said he was still praying over their differences.

"We have three children together and I can't say I hate her but I am still praying about the challenge and asking God where this would end. God has not told me that it is over between us so 1 cannot say that I am no longer interested in my wife.

"When I was about to marry her, I prayed about it and God told me that she is a very good woman but I would face some challenges in the marriage. I did not know that the challenge would be this great. It could be that after this crisis, we would become even closer than we used to be and not allow people in between us. It could also mean that we would not come together again but the issue is that as at now, she is still my wife," Pastor Love stated when the issue came out.

I’VE NOT FOUND LOVE IN GHANA - AKI

A few months’ back, diminutive movie star and comic actor Osita Iheme otherwise known as Paw Paw, was in the news for being in an altar bound relationship with fast rising Ghanaian actress Nana.

Osita Iheme who is regarded as one of Nollywood’s most eligible bachelors, has been under pressure since his screen twin and friend, Cheinedu Ikedieze ‘Aki’ got married to his pretty wife Nneoma in 2011.

The actor who recently published his first book titled ‘Inspired 101’ said in an interview with Encomium that contrary to reports making rounds, he is still very single.

“I didn’t fall in love with anybody o,” he cried out.

The actor added that: “I only acted a movie with a Ghanaian actress ‘Nana’ that’s all. I can’t think of going to Ghana if I have not seen anybody to marry there. Of course, you can marry anywhere you locate your partner. But for now, I’ve not found love in Ghana. It’s just that I acted with this lady Nana and we were so close in the movie that people imagined I was dating her.”

Iheme said the movie in question is an indigenous movie shot in Ghana titled ‘Peace and Love’.

SOMEBODY HAS CASTRO'S PHONE...

Every well-thinking Ghanaian would have wished that the Castro Saga should have come to a logical conclusion already but with the artiste and his said acquaintance, Janet Bandu still missing; it leaves more conspiracy theories, conjectures and wrong leads.

One of such theories that were not elaborated upon by the Ghana Police Service during their less revealing press conference last week, is the whereabouts of the mobile phone of the artiste.

In a chat with Castro’s father Mr. John Eshun Tagoe, he stated that; it has already been established that his son did not jet-ski with his phone but the family can still not find the whereabouts of the phone.

“Before the incident, Castro called me with his phone and I had also been calling his line after the supposed incident. Initially, it was going through but someone kept cutting the line anytime I called until it got to a point when the phone was switched off,” he explained.

According to him, the police claim they are doing all they can to unravel the case, but the family is also doing their private investigations to assist the authorities. Mrs. Lydia Naa Dede Tagoe, Castro’s mother also said that; she’s confused over the whole issue, especially when people keep narrating different stories to them – but she believes God’s time is the best.

Mrs. Tagoe explained that, they were told that Castro’s phone was nowhere to be found but they were informed initially that he did not go to the waters with his phone.

“I can’t even sleep, am growing slim and people are just keeping me in suspense with different calls and narrations. For now; I would not like to speak on the issue, because the more I speak about it, the more it keeps me in despair, I put my hope and trust in the Lord,” an obviously distressed Mrs. Tagoe stated.

However, in the case of Janet Bandu, her family has been able to retrieve her phone after so much back and forth. The family are said to have retrieved Janet’s phone from her close pal, Alberta, who is said to have taken their missing daughter to Ada.

Per the testimonies shared by the parents of Castro, it is clear that the phone of the hiplife artiste is in the possession of one of the many people who went on the fun trip to Ada but attempts by the paper to reach Samuel Anim Addo, Business Manager/PRO of Asamoah Gyan to address the issue of Castro’s phone proved futile.

JOEY B MELTS FOR ACTOR ADJETEY ANANG

‘Tonga’ rapper Joey B couldn’t hold his feelings when he came face-to-face with his childhood favourite actor, Adjetey Anang, on Monday at the Silverbird Cinemas in Accra.

It was B’s first time meeting the man who is known for his popular role as ‘Pusher’ in rested series, “Things We Do For Love.”

They both went to the Silverbird Cinemas to sell popcorn for movie fans who attended the holiday screening of actress Lydia Forson’s produced film, A Letter From Adam, when they had their ‘heart to heart’ meeting.

Upon seeing Adjetey, Joey B and his friend bowed and started shouting Adjetey’s name in admiration. They poured out their warmest feelings and esteem for Adjetey while movie fans looked on.

Adjetey was left with no choice than to also bow along with them as they all exchanged pleasantries in front of the cameras.

The calm actor, who recently featured in the first season of Iroko TV web series, Poison Bait, directed by Leila Djansi, remains one of Ghana’s popular actors from late 90s.

NOLLYWOOD ACTOR REPORTEDLY MEDIA CONSULTANT TO PREZ GOODLUCK JONATHAN

Nollywood actor, Saint Obi is reportedly working as a media consultant for President Goodluck Jonathan.

He is currently planning “ingenious” strategies for the president’s re-election in 2015, Daily Times NG reports.

“Despite the security challenges in the country, which will certainly end very soon, no Nigerian President had performed better than President Goodluck Jonathan in terms of first 3 years as President. This is a fact, not the falsehood circulated by 2015 power seeking propagandists…” he reportedly said.

Obi is rumoured to have recently purchased a bullet proof 2014 G65 AGM Mercedes Benz worth N46million. Many are said to have questioned his ability to buy such an extravagant vehicle, seeing as he hasn’t acted in movies in a long time, reports state. Some attribute his alleged new found wealth to his new position.

I WON’T TALK TO THE MEDIA FOR FREE, PAY ME IF YOU NEED ME – ACTRESS

Veteran Ghanaian actress, Irene Opare, has stated that the media should start paying her for interviews she grants on commercial programmes – otherwise, she’s sorry.

“Currently, most of the media houses are saying, as for Irene Opare if you invite her to honour your interview, she does not come, she’s too known! I’ve heard that a lot but when they call me, I ask them, what do you want me to do for you? If you are doing a programme and you want me to come and talk about the art, as a resource person, you have to pay me! I will charge you!” she said.

Irene is seriously championing this advocacy because, to her – she is not a neophyte in Ghana’s showbiz industry and for that matter, should be accorded her due.

“Some of us started long ago and we sweat out! We did hard work to get to where we are. It wasn’t cheap at all! No radio station or TV station made it for us – so if we sweat to get to where we are, it is about time we take money for it. Why is it that when the media needs a celebrity for a show they come for us the known ones? They don’t because the established ones have huge followers! Irene Opare is a household name! He who does not know me is only a kid! Made my name over 20 years ago so I don’t need you to make me a star,” she revealed.

Irene, who also thinks the media, is not helping social intervention projects celebrities embark on, continued: “Has Razz written anything about me before! Have you? I’m asking you! Answer me! Meanwhile I’ve been doing a lot over the years! The whole country is filled with filth! We are living in poor sanitation! I started ‘Clean Mama’ campaign since 2010”.

“Have you written anything about it before?” She reiterated her point: “If a media house wants content, like say celebrity profile or interview you on a matter, they will call you to come to their studio but when we bring our projects for help, you don’t! It is only nice that when we also want something from you, you have to do without us paying for it because we can give content”.

“If I sit on your radio and you interview me, I’m giving you content for your show! So if you don’t pay me and someday I’m also bringing something to you, I don’t have to pay! Rather, they will call you and they won’t pay you or even pay for your petrol. Meanwhile, these same stations if you take your programme t them, you pay for it!”

She also revealed that, she recently drove to a TV station upon invitation for an interview and had to wake up at dawn to the station which is far from where she lives. At the end of the show, the producer of the show did not even give her money for fuel rather: “All they did was to smile and said, oh we thank you. You did well! God bless you! God bless, God bless is a past thing! Especially for me Irene Opare!”
She suggested what media houses should do if they really want her on their platforms for interview. “If you want me, call me and let’s sit down. It can be barter. I can come to your show as content so that when I also want to do a programme, I can bring you a CD for you to play for me”.

Irene Opare started acting in former GBC’s Thursday Theatre at age 14. She however started professional acting in 1989 when she was employed at old Parliament House – where she was part of Parliament’s Information, Communication and Education then widely known as ICE under President Jerry John Rawlings regime.

Irene Opare, who became famous at a tender age, has acted with revered names in Ghana’s movie industry such as: David Dontoh, Dzifa Glikpoe, Dzifa Gomashie, Fred Amugi, Late Michael Moncar, and others. In 1990 she started acting with Abibigroma.

List of movies she’s acted in include: ‘Demna’, ‘Black Sunday’, ‘Police Officer’, and ‘Destiny’ – which actually shot her to fame; ‘God is Wicked’, amongst others. She has strong passion for advocacy works and for that reason, was contracted by Unilever in 2010 for a sanitation project, supported by Zoomlion which has since earned her the name ‘Clean Momma’.
