"MY BEEF WITH LORD KENYA WAS PURELY HYPE"

Celebrated Hiplife artiste Kwabena Otchere Darko aka Obrafour has revealed that the seemingly beef between himself and Lord Kenya in 2007 was purely hype.

Both artistes claimed they owned the title, 'Heavyweight Champion'?

He made this revelation in an interview with Dr. Pounds on Pluzz FM over the weekend.

Obrafour, who has been ruled as one of the best rappers in Ghana’s music history said both himself and Abraham Philip Akpor Kenya aka Lord Kenya took advantage of the situation to hype their brands.

“It was purely hype; we did it for the sake of the game with no buts, it was all hype,” he said.
He also stated that they are good friends and have always remained good friends ever since the public sparked the hypothetical beef.

The 'Pae muka' rapper, who just released his latest single, titled Odasani, featuring the lyrically upright Manifest, said he featured Manifest because he is deep.

“I respect Manifest; He is deep. I was overwhelmed with what he came up with,” he said.
Obrafour, whose lyrical dexterity hasn’t changed hinted of his upcoming album 'Obrafoforo', is due to be released in March 2015.

"I DIDN’T HAVE MONEY TO ORGANIZE MY SHOW"

It is quite surprising to have a maiden event score such high marks, win accolades and plaudits from critics and still lack the necessary sponsorship to have a follow-up while, the many mediocre shows get support every year.

That is what happened to one of the best shows ever to have been staged in Ghana, ‘Mr. Versatile Show’ in the Ghanaian entertainment industry, which was staged in 2012 and received such glowing reviews, topping the list at the best-organized event that year.

Expectations were high that a follow-up to the very successful event will be showcased in 2013 considering the rave reviews it garnered the previous year, but to the consternation and disappointment of many, the show failed to hold.

Okyeame Kwame has disclosed the circumstances that prevented the critically-acclaimed show from at staging last year and assured Ghanaians of the show’s comeback in the next few months.

According to the venerated rapper, who spoke on ‘Flex on Pluzz’ on Pluzz FM; his firm could not get the needed sponsorship to ensure that production of the show materialized.

He also attributed the no-show to the General Election Petition that had the whole country on lockdown for months in 2013.

“Last year, we could not get half of the sponsorship we got the first time to do the show and I didn’t have money personally to support whatever we had in order for the show to be organized,” he stated.

The ‘Try Another Time’ singer has assured the many followers of the event that, enough sponsorship has been accumulated to ensure that the show comes off in November, this year.

“This year, we want to stage the show 4 times on two different times, 2-4pm and 8-10pm. This is to help spread the cost of production and for us to make a profit as well,” he confirmed.

‘Mr. Versatile Show’ is a musical show laden with comedy and satire that was produced by Okyeame Kwame’s One Mic’ Entertainment that contracted Rover man and Prof. Yartey for the acting and choreography skills for the show.

I’M READY FOR LAL BALL - NACY

He has graced the platforms of all Legends and Legacy (LAL) Ball events since its inception in 2011 and this year, gospel artiste and sound engineer, Nacy, will once again perform at the event which will come off at the Accra International Conference Centre on Saturday, November 1.

The artiste, who is the leader of the gospel group, No Tribe, would be on the bill this year to celebrate one of Africa’s biggest music icons, Mister Music Man, Kojo Antwi.

In an interview with Showbiz on Tuesday, Nacy, disclosed that he felt honoured to have been selected for every edition of the LAL Ball and he attributed his inclusion this year to the passion he has for doing music.

“The principle I have in life is that whatever you do, you have to do it right and with the help of the Lord, you will find favour,” he said.

Nacy praised organizers of the LAL Ball, Imajin Advertising; for their initiative in honoring Ghanaian musicians who have distinguished themselves as legends in the industry and have worked tirelessly to pave the way for the younger generation.

“Some musicians work all their lives but have nothing to show for it, and this is very unfortunate. This is the reason I feel the initiative by the organizers is a laudable one and should be supported so that it continues for years to come. It is my dream that one day; I will also be honored as a legend,” he said.

Nacy promised patrons of the LAL Ball an excellent performance and assured them that he would give them nothing but the best on the night.

No Tribe held an executive launch of their latest album, 'One God', at the GS Plaza at the Golf House in Accra last Sunday and for Nacy, the album is a 'blessing for the children of God'.

Altar and Three are their previous albums.

‘I WON’T QUIT MY TAXI DRIVING’ - MUSICIAN

Highlife musician, Kumi Guitar, has stated that unless his management directs him to stop commercial driving, he has no intention of giving up his profession as a Taxi driver.

Nana Yaw Kumi, his official name, has worked as a commercial cab driver for years now and believes it is one of the reasons his fans like him.

“I do not feel discouraged at all that I still drive a Taxi. I feel my Taxi driving is part of the reasons Ghanaians like me. It was through the Taxi driving that I met my boss, Mark Okraku Mantey. The Taxi also feeds me at some point as well. Until my management says I have reached a point in my career where I should stop driving a Taxi, I won’t stop driving my Taxi,” the ‘Break Into Two’ singer stated.

Kumi, who is currently managed by Mark Okraku Mantey, Chief Executive of Slip Music, disclosed that since he came into the limelight, there has been some instances where passengers get into his Taxi, negotiate the fares with him and later realise he is the musician they have been listening to.

“My Taxi is at the workshop being fixed and it will be back on the road soon. But I have had the experience, like twice, where passengers sit in my car and then later recognize me. I believe that by driving a Taxi I am indirectly working for Ghanaians,” he said.

He is currently working to finalize his album which is expected to be released later in the year.

“Currently, I’m in the studio working on two songs for the completion of my album. My boss, Mark Okraku Mantey, also has all the plans. If God permits, we will release some videos to go with it as well. Then Kumi Guitar will be unveiled as an artiste,” he added.

SHATTA WALE ABSENT...COURT GRANTS INTERLOCUTORY INJUNCTION AGAINST HIM

An Accra Fast Track High Court on Monday October 20, 2014 sat to hear the case involving owner of event Management Company, Charterhouse and its CEO Mr. Iyiola Ayoade and self-acclaimed Dancehall King, Shatta Wale real name Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jnr.

Peacefmonline.com’s correspondent reports that counsel for both parties were present but the “Enter the net” hit maker was nowhere to be found in court.

According to the report, Shatta Wale was represented in court by his father Mr. Mensah and his Manager Lawrence Nana Asiamah Hanson aka Bulldog.

On 2nd October 2014, Charterhouse sued Shatta Wale for defamation seeking damages of GH¢10million.

This was after the self-acclaimed Dancehall King, in his usual brazen approach, accused the events company and its CEO, Iyiola Ayoade, of being corrupt and "foolish" in the videos, warning them to stop denying musicians from other regions of Ghana the needed recognition.

The two plaintiffs, Charterhouse and its CEO want the court to declare that the musician defamed them in the series of videos.

They are asking for “an unqualified apology and retraction of each of the four separate videos with the approval by the plaintiffs prior to the recording and uploading” to his Facebook page and to remain on his page for one month within a week of the judgment.

Again the plaintiffs want the court to compel Shatta Wale to send the four videos in which he renders apologies to the plaintiffs to “all media houses and online publications that have aired the defamatory videos complained of and ensure that same and/or published at his own expense” within a week of the judgment.

The plaintiffs are also seeking for an “order of perpetual injunction restraining the defendant, his agents, manager(s), privies and assigns or any person through him and howsoever described from making and/or repeating the defamatory statements or similar statements in the nature of the ones complained in the video recordings.”

When the court sat on the case on Monday, it lasted barely 45 minutes with the two plaintiffs winning an interlocutory injunction against Shatta Wale.

This means Shatta Wale and all his associates dare not release anything against Charterhouse or anybody affiliated with Charterhouse be it in writing in social media, in music, Radio, TV, video or through any other form of communication or publication.

In the main case of defamation, Shatta Wale’s lawyer pleaded with the court extensively for an out of court settlement and asked for one month within which they believe by then the case might have been settled amicably between the two parties, but Lawyer for Charterhouse and Mr. Ayoade, Lawyer Egbert Faibelle said one month was too long for a possible out of court settlement so the court agreed to a two-week time-table after which if both parties are not able to settle the case out of court, the case would be recalled.

The case has therefore been adjourned to Monday November 3, 2014.

Peacefmonline.com is also reliably informed that even before Monday’s court hearing, counsel for Shatta Wale had on the quiet, written an official letter to Charterhouse and Mr. Ayoade for an out of court settlement, but Charterhouse have not given any response yet.

We are also informed by sources from within Charterhouse that several individuals, corporate bodies and some prominent associations in the entertainment industry have pleaded on behalf of Shatta Wale to Charterhouse and Mr. Ayoade to forgive the dancehall artiste and settle the issue out of court.

Public Relations Officer for Charterhouse, George Quaye confirmed to Peacefmonline.com that there have been calls from several quarters, including some from very prominent people including politicians, Chiefs, Men of God and people from the entertainment industry apologizing on Shatta Wale’s behalf and calling for a truce.

He also confirmed that indeed Shatta Wale’s lawyers have written an official letter asking for an out of court settlement adding that Charterhouse has not officially replied to the letter yet.

Asked if Charterhouse will possibly consider an out of court settlement as pressure continues to mount on them to do so, George Quaye said that the decision is beyond him assuring that immediately any decision is made, he will mwould make known.

NOTHING CAN BREAK ME ANYMORE - MAAME DOKONO

One of Ghana’s greatest TV personalities, Grace Omaboe, popularly known as Maame Dokono, has confirmed her return to the showbiz industry, years after she went silent.

The celebrated movie veteran was a special guest on The One Show on Viasat1, where she made some revelation about her past, her present and her plans for the future. Earlier this month, Maame Dokono was inducted into the first Radio and Television Personality Awards Hall of Fame for her contribution towards the radio and television industry in Ghana. Humbled by the honour, Maame Dokono told Anita Erskine that when she was sinking and everybody did not hear from her again, this came at the right time. She added that she has received several awards, including Order of the Volta award given her by former President Kufuor. However, she is very discreet about the awards, and hardly talks about them. Maame Dokono said she is now grown and physically weak as compared to when she was very popular on TV, but she is also spiritually grown now. “…Things that I saw formally and would make so much noise about, I will now sit down and use my wisdom….and pray about them,” she added.

The former talk show host stressed that she used to be vibrant and would attack whoever did something wrong or go to court or even find money to help victims. “I think it affected me a lot because I was doing about six to seven programmes and work at the same time.” She said her doctor later warned her to slow down otherwise she was going to drop dead.

The former ‘Obra’ star said it was her wish to own a studio operated by only women. She bought her cameras, lights, and other equipments to start, but her plans were halted by a court case against her. She said it was a difficult time for her and she was broken down emotionally. “I said to myself ‘why must it be so?’…and about three, four years later, God told me this is not the end of it….’you’ve got to get up again,’ so I am now going to get up again.” Maame Dokono said she hopes with the help of God, and then her being focused and with the help of others and TV stations like Viasat1, she’ll be able to get up again. “That has always been my aim,” she added. Maame Dokono also disclosed her desire to revive the lost African folktales and Ananse stories on TV. She presented ‘By the Fireside’, a children’s storytelling programme that made waves from the early to late-90s. She also played a vital role in Ghanaian Akan drama series ‘Obra’ in the 80s and 90s. She was known to be very outspoken and difficult in the roles she played.

Maame Dokono later began a talk show on Choice FM that addressed social issues primarily on women and children and then also started a similar project on TV.

Things however fell out of place when she took a political stance and was hit with a court case. Moving on, Maame Dokono stressed that nothing can break her anymore, and she is now stronger than ever. She says she sometimes sits down and reflects on all that she has been through, and would still want to do it all over again. Maame Dokono confirmed she is back in the showbiz industry again, and has featured in three international movies “with white men behind the camera,” and has three more scripts on the table. She said she has had a number of producers contacting her to start some programmes, which she is considering…as well as starting her own production.

AFIA SCHWARZENEGGER THROWS A CHALLENGE

Just when everyone thought they had seen that entire she had to offer, actress/TV and radio personality, Afia Schwarzenegger has managed to pull off yet another surprise from her seemingly endless pool of talents.

Patrons at the recently- held maiden edition of the Ghana Television Prime Time Awards were pleasantly surprised when the pint-sized actress, real name Valentina Agyeiwaa, mounted the stage and performed an exciting 10-minute stand-up comedy routine, which went down very well with the audience.

In an interview with Showbiz, Afia Schwarzenegger, who seemed pleasantly surprised by the public reaction to her stand-up comedy, revealed she had always been a ‘humour monger’ and what she did on the night was just a little aspect of her capability with comedy.

She revealed that she had been in the stand-up comedy business for over two years and had performed gigs in Ghana and beyond.

“I did a private show last year for the Rotary Club, Miss Polytechnic 2012 pageant as well as shows in Port Harcourt and South Africa and a few here and there,” she said.

The hilarious host of Kokooko on UTV said she was capable of holding audience attention beyond 90 minutes and getting them adequately entertained.

“Stand-up comedy has never been a big deal for me. It’s simply something I do on the side. I believe every comedian worth his salt should be able to mount the stage and delight audiences,” she said.

Asked where inspiration for her acts come from, Afia Schwarzenegger disclosed that her mentors are American comedians Ellen DeGeneres and Kat Williams.

“I spend a a lot of time studying those artistes and without breaking a sweat, I can tell you the entire history of stand-up comedy.

“As an artiste, you have to know your audience. You can’t use material meant for matured audience at a children’s show and in the same vein, you cannot repeat the material meant for a Nigerian audience at a Ghanaian show and vice versa.”

Afia threw a challenge to event organizers to give her the chance to show them what she’s capable of.

“Ghanaians don’t appreciate what we have in our own country. If I were a Nigerian, no one would be surprised to see me do stand-up comedy,” she concluded.

In a statement released by his label TN Records, he clears the air on his alleged condemnation of Azonto and Alkayida and says he has neither joined the Azonto and Alkayida trains nor condemned them.

“..For them to lie about him and attribute things he did not say to him, is a clear insult on the integrity of their readers.

“They quoted “I have joined the azonto train”, which are all fabrications,” the statement read.

COURT BANS SHATTA FROM INSULTING CHARTER HOUSE

An Accra High Court has banned dancehall artiste Shatta Wale from attacking entertainment company Charter House in his music.
Shatta has been sued by the company for defamatory comments he made on four seperate videos he posted on social media site facebook.

Charter House was asking for GHS10,000,000 in damages.

Incidentally, after the suit was filed, the dance hall artiste released a single, mocking the entertainment company of being broke and hoping to make some bucks at his expense.

That appeared to have angered Charter House all the more, with the lawyers first asking the court to grant an injunction on Shatta Wale from making any further derogatory remarks against their client.

Sources close to the plaintiff told Myjoyonline.com, Shatta Wale later brought a letter requesting for an out of court settlement but they were hesitant to accept the request because they could not guarantee that Shatta Wale will desist from insulting them.

When the hearing opened Monday, Charles Mensah, father of Shatta Wale, again pleaded with the court to allow an out of court settlement.

The court is yet to rule on that plea.

The judge however granted the plaintiff's application for interlocutory injunction to stop Shatta from releasing insulting videos against Charter House.

The case has been adjourned to November 4, 2014.

A close source to the plaintiff told Joy News they will be considering the content of the out of court settlement before taking a decision.

BOYCOTT NEXT YEAR’S GHANA MUSIC AWARDS – KWAISEY PEE

Ghanaian highlife sensation, Kwaisey Pee, says he has a tall list of reservations against Charter House, organisers of the annual Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) and called on his colleague musicians to boycott next year's event.

"I know the next awards are next year but the truth is that we have to do something for the organisers to know that we are not happy with them. Over the years, they have not treated us fairly.

And this was what Shatta Wale was trying to say and has found himself in court. Even that, we should be showing him some solidarity but we are not showing him any support.

"I am not in support of the insults and the way he went about making his case but he was speaking for our interest. And we have to support him without necessarily agreeing with his style," Kwaisey Pee told NEWS-ONE.

When asked what his exact challenges with Charter House were, Kwaisey Pee said he has misgivings about the entire event right from the picking of nomination forms, through to the shortlisting stages, the awards night itself and the aftermath.

"When I returned from London, I went to Charter House upon their invitation and my phone got missing while I was there. Till date, no one from the company has even called me to show concern.

I am not saying they should replace the phone but at least a phone to apologise would have shown some respect to me. And it is the same disdain they have for us all and we must do something.

I suggest we all decide to boycott the awards," Kwaisey Pee added.
For the last decade and a half, Charter House has received both criticisms and praises after each edition of the competitive music awards.

The company has however insisted it operates an open door policy and stakeholders with grievances or suggestions should make it known for a consensus to be reached through dialogue.

Meanwhile, lawyers for Shatta Wale are pleading with Charter House for an out of court settlement after the company dragged him to court over charges of defamation.

REJOINDER: I DID NOT SAY I WAS GOING INTO GOSPEL MUSIC – MZBEL

This is a rejoinder to a story written by Newsone newspaper and published by myjoyonline.com Date: 16-10-2014 with the headline ‘Sexy Mzbel returns to provocative dressing’.

In the story the writer did say that: ‘Celebrated Ghanaian songstress, Mzbel, over the weekend appeared at a public event dressed in an extremely provocative manner.

Mzbel's attire caused quite a stir at the National Theatre during the Ghana Television Awards last Friday, barely a year after she vowed never to appear dressed provocatively in public again.

The musician was 'dressed to kill' in a green figure hugging evening dress complete with a thigh high split that made her legs the focus of every eye.

She literally sparkled in the ground-sweeping dress which was dotted with diamonds and cut low in the bosom to advertise a better part of her breasts.

Interestingly, she was not in the least perturbed and was seen having a hearty chat and enjoying herself throughout the event.”

Mzbel wants to use this medium to let fans and followers know that the story as written by NewsOne is false and does not hold water.

In addressing the issue, Mzbel said; ‘first of all the dress I took to the Television awards Ghana was a matured dress. The fact that the dress was a thigh high split and had a cut curve that fits me does not mean I dressed shabbily. What is the writer’s definition of a matured dress, that dress is no way close to a provocative dress as speculated by the writer, she further on added.

Secondly, I have never said that I am going into gospel music. Mzbel disclosed that the fact that she shares motivational messages on her facebook page does not mean she is going to do gospel music.
‘I have addressed that issue of me going into gospel music on my return to active music on my facebook page before; my maturity will definitely show in my new songs when they are released therefore the writer should not worry too much about it, Mzbel noted.

She maintained that: ‘I am still a servant of God, I am not going back to my old brand and style as Mzbel but I am not going into gospel music’.

The singer in her concluding words said that, ‘Motherhood has really shaped me and it has taught me a lot of things; she wants her fans to know that her new singles are coming up soon and they will notice the difference.

X- DOE CAUTIONS SHATTA WALE ABOUT HIS ATTITUDE

Hiplife guru X-Doe has advised Shatta Wale to desist from the bad attitude he is portraying in public.

According to him, Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jnr., popularly known as Shatta Wale’s negative outlook in the public will someday divide his fan base and cause many people to lose interest in his type of music.

Speaking in an interview with Mark Okraku Mantey on the “E-Punch” show on Hitz Fm, the artist said his [Shata Wale’s] attitude could compel disk jockeys (DJs) to desist from playing his music because they might see him as a bad influence on people who love his music.

Citing his musical life as an example, X-Doe said despite the fact that his songs came with clean and meaningful lyrics, his rowdy personality drew people away from him and he lost many of his fans.

This, he said, dwindled his finances because most people stopped calling on him to perform at shows and other cooperate functions.

He said Shatta Wale should change his attitude or be ready to deal with the many image damaging issues which may arise from it.
