I AM NOT A ‘BUSH’ GIRL, SAYS ‘NEW’ AFIA SCHWARZENEGGER

She has only been on TV for just five weeks but Helen Korkor Asante who currently plays Afia Schwarzenegger in the TV series Afia Schwarzenegger is already paying the price for being in the limelight. Korkor is the third person to play the character since the series debuted on TV a few years ago.

In as much as she is being commended for her new role, Korkor is equally receiving criticisms for being a ‘bush’ girl, not good looking enough for TV and that she can never fill the shoes of Valentina Agyeiwaa of Happy FM who played the first Afia Schwarzeneggar and Nana Hemaa of Adom FM who took over from her.

But Korkor, who has never acted before taking up the Afia Schwarzenegger role is unfazed by the bashings she is receiving. She told Showbiz last Tuesday that she is beautiful and polished and the best among the three of them.
“I am the best thing that ever happened to Afia Schwarzenegger. I play the character so well and I can confidently say that no one can do it better than I do.

“The others did their best but I stand tall. Yes, I am blowing my own horn because I believe I am the best. The evidence is clear. Many people have showered me with praise for playing the role so well. The comments I have received from the public and Excellencia Ghana Limited, producers of the show are enough evidence that I am the best so far.

According to her, the audition for the Afia Shwarzenegger role attracted over 200 people but she was selected. She said although she wasn’t sure she would be chosen, she knew she could easily play the role when given the chance.

Commenting on her looks, Korkor debunked views that she is not good looking. “Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. I am good looking. You see, a lot of make-up is used on my face for the role I play that is why I look that way on TV but in real life, I am not bad looking at all.

Korkor was also quick to say that she is not a bush girl as people perceive her to be. “I only portray the character of a bush girl on TV but I am not one. I don’t talk or behave like I do on air in real life. Anyone who knows me will tell you that I am the reserved type. When I am not on set, I am always minding my own business” she said.

Asked about her love life, Korkor said she was not ready to date now and that her new career is important to her at the moment.

“I am putting dating on hold for now because I want to focus on my career and improve myself. For now, I am a happy young girl who is living her dream and enjoying a little stardom. I just want Ghanaians to watch out for me” Korkor said.

Afia Schwarzenegger airs every Saturday at 8pm on Viasat 1 .

MERCY JOHNSON UNDER FIRE AS MARKETERS BANS HER FROM MOVIES

Should I say I was surprised immediately I saw this on Vanguard this morning or I was shocked.
I confirmed the news again from the popular entertainment blogger Linda Ikeji who gave another version of the news which I’m about to share right now.

According to Vanguard; some officials of movie marketers under the aegis of Film and Video Producers and Marketers Association of Nigeria, FVPMAN, plans to blacklist Mercy Johnson Okojie,, in what they call, “ Withdrawing of service from her.”

They also went further to state their reasons for the ban. They accused Mercy Johnson of leaving the set or not even showing up for video shoot after she must have been paid. In another accusation, they said MJ was always giving them difficult conditions before she can feature in any movie.

Now this other news from the famous blogger who seems to have more details about Mercy Johnson’s bad market:

She reported that Mercy Johnson is currently the highest paid actress in Nollywood. She charges between N1.8million to N2m to feature in a movie. The others, like Ini and Funke charge between N700k to N1.2million.

For this reason, the actress has been blacklisted by the Nollywood Movie Marketers Association. The ban will not take effect immediately as Mercy has already signed up to do quite a number of movies.

She returned on Thursday from a movie location, and will be on the set of another movie from tomorrow, Sunday. She will be traveling out of Nigeria sometime this month and when she returns, will be on another movie set…so she’s basically booked till the end of the year.

The idea now is not to ban her after all her current contracts end. So the ban won’t take effect until at least January 2014. This is not the first time the movie marketers association will be placing bans on actors . They did this a few years ago when quite a number of actors including RMD, Genevieve Nnaji, Ramsey Noah, Emeka Ike, and Jim Iyke were blacklisted.

What will now become of Mercy Johnson when the ban takes effect? To be a star is no joke o

KWAW KESE PUNCHES GOVERNMENT OVER GUINEA FOWL PROJECT IN NEW SINGLE

Kwaw Kese has just released a hot single featuring the legend, Obrafour.

Produced by Ball J., the song talks about corruption and other related issues.

‘Obunsam’ talks about the attitude where people claim glory and blame the devil for their evil deeds.

Kwaw Kese hit hard at the funds spent on the ‘GYEEDA Guinea Fowl’ project by saying, “memp3 nkwasia3m. 15 million wo Akonf3m, Sika no y3 di no nt3m, Ghanaman no ho aba as3m.”

The literal translation is: “I don’t want any foolishness. 15 million for guinea fowls, we spend money anyhow, and the Ghanaian is in trouble.”

With hard punch lines from Kwaw, a classic hook from Obrafour and an awesome instrumentation from Ball J, the song is set to rule Ghanaian airwaves for months to come.

FORMER VIP MEMBER PROMZY NOW PROMZY AFRIKA

Former VIP member, Promzy, now wishes to be known as Promzy Afrika. The change in/of name comes weeks after he left the group.

In the next few years of his remaining music life, the rapper, known in real life as Emmanuel Ababio, would bear the name.

A silent but loud announcement of the change was made on Buk Bak’s two new singles released earlier today, ‘Ex Girlfriend’ being the other he featured on.

A split that got people talking, his exit from the group, has left the once buoyant trio, a duo. He was a main part of what used to be a tight unit.

No reasons have so far been stated for his leaving, but insiders say it’s a decision he had contemplated for long.

He has been in the studio recording, and would soon put out materials of his own, as a solo artiste.

I'M NOT PREGNANT FOR JIM IYKE - NANCY CONFESSES

It is barely a week when a young lady claimed she was pregnant for Jim Iyke amongst other controversies. At last, the lady, Nancy has confessed.

Nancy has opened up that some persons actually approached her to frame Jim Iyke up and cause confusion in his marriage-bound relationship with Nadia Buari.

She however refused to give details of her sponsor but has dropped the allegation that they dated secretly and that he got her pregnant.

When the story broke recently, many condemned Jim Iyke without giving him the benefit of doubt, but his woman, Nadia Buari, stood by him.

I’M NOT PLANNING TO MARRY NADIA BUARI - JIM IYKE

Nollywood actor, Jim Iyke has debunked rumours that he and award-winning Ghanaian actress, Nadia Buari were planning to get married.

The two stars have been reported to be dating each other and were said to be planning to get married, after Jim was recently alleged to have been delivered of an evil spirit which had prevented him from getting married.

Reacting to the widely reported marriage rumour between him and Nadia, Jim disclosed on his twitter handle, @jimikyeofficial that he’s not planning of legalising his affair with Nadia.

He wrote, “I’ll resolve this issue by stating as clearly as possible that this marriage rumours is unfounded and far-fetched. My prerogative is known to me only.”

Some critics have insisted that Jim and Nadia are only trying to make publicity stunt out of their rumoured love affair.

Meanwhile, Nadia Buari has reportedly deleted Jim Iyke’s pictures from her Instagram page. This, according to what we gathered, was because of Jim Iyke’s stand on their affair.

I'M NOT INTIMIDATED BY WIZKID'S SUCCESS--DAVIDO

For a long time, there have been comparism between two young Nigerian star singers, Davido and Wizkid.

The battle of who is more successful than the other has always generated heated arguments between the fans of both talented pop superstars.

Speaking with Punch newspaper recently in an interview, Davido claimed he is not scared or intimidated by the what his 'competitor' has achieved in the music industry.

According to him, "I see nobody as competition or threat [to me]. God is behind me, so I just go into the studio, do my music and everything is fine. I develop and write most of my songs in the studio.

"I’m not afraid of competition or the fact that some person will just appear on the scene and take the shine. After all, I did it to some people, so I expect that it is something that must happen to everyone because you can’t be shining forever. But once you are good to others, make good music, have loyal fans, that’s all that matters."

GLORIA: I’M BEING SEXUALLY HARRASSED

Nana Ama is a con girl and a flirt who is always exploiting her beauty to lure men in the popular TV series Efiewura.
That role, well played out by Gloria Osei Sarfo in the series for the past six years, is rather rubbing badly on her real life character.

Unfortunately, many men have misconstrued that acting role as her real life character and she has become the target of men who harrass her with incessant sexual advances.

Gloria who shot to fame through Efiewura said that has been the bitter pill she has to swallow for being in the limelight but she has always overcome these “juicy offers” from the men because she doesn’t want to compromise on her Christian doctrines.

“I have had to endure a lot of temptations especially “juicy” offers from men. Some men read different meanings into what I do as an actress. They think I am that bad girl they watch on TV and in movies so even if I tell them it is just a role play, they assume I am just playing hard to get and just wouldn’t take no for an answer”, she told Showbiz last Friday.

Coming from a strong Christian family background, Gloria says she has strived not to put her family’s name in disrepute especially her mother who is the branch pastor at City Temple International Church in Accra.

“I am a staunch Christian and my religious beliefs have always been a guide in my career. I know it will be difficult for people to accept that Gloria is a good girl but that is me. What I do is just a job and I have to deliver well to the satisfaction of my producers and directors but most people do not understand it that way.

“They just want to judge me based on what they see me do on TV, but for me it only shows that I am doing something right”, she added.

She had her stint in the movie industry a decade ago when she featured in My Mother’s Heart but it was her appearance in Efiewura that shot her into the limelight.

Aside Efiewura, Gloria plays the lead role in another TV series, Living with Trishia on Viasat 1 a programme she said has “helped to revive and upgrade me. Many people thought that I couldn’t speak English because of Efiewura.

Away from her acting career, she talked of her love life and hinted that wedding bells will soon ring as plans are far advansed for that “special day”.

Gloria who is in her late 20s has featured in movies like Frema, Most Wanted Girls, Makochem, Odansefuo Ne Wan, Sweet Mother and her latest Sika which is yet to be released.

PRINCE DAVID ‘SHUTS UP’ YVONNE NELSON OVER PREZ MAHAMA

Ghanaian actress, Yvonne Nelson is being hailed from certain quarters for not only being a beautiful actress but for showing empathy to Ghanaians in the face of these bad economic times that Ghana and Ghanaians are experiencing now.

Last Friday, November 1, she tweeted via her Twitter handle @Yvonnenelsongh to the official Twitter handle of the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama @JDMahama that as the first man on the land, he should ‘do something’ about the plight of Ghanaians, who are ‘suffering’.

“Mr President. Ghanaians are suffering. The people of Ghana are SUFFERING. #fuel #electricity #water plsdosomething! Thank you,” she tweeted.

The president has not responded to Miss Nelson's tweet/concern as a quick check on his timeline indicates that, his last tweet was on October 15 and was a congratulatory message to the gallant Black Stars team that humiliated the Pharaohs of Egypt by six goals to one in the first leg of the final qualifying matches to the World Cup in Brazil next year.

Commenting on the actress’ tweet, actor Prince David Osei said, “It's good she tweeted that, which other ways, its bringing some kind of awareness and letting the president know that, people like us also care about how the country goes.”

He, however, conceded that the whole world is going through that bad economic face.

“... I think it's a global thing because the American government is even going down, so generally it's not about [President] Mahama but he just got into office and as he rightly said the other time on TV, when you start a car, you move to the first gear, you move to the second, it then accelerate further. So I think Mahama is in the right direction.”

“Rome was not built in a day. I believe we all need to sacrifice and endure for some time and hopefully next year will be very great. It's not wrong that, she's shown concern that Ghanaians are suffering. Literally we are suffering with the frustration of fuel prices, electricity tariffs being increased by almost 80%, it’s not been easy for the layman but all the same, it's a global thing.”

YVONNE NELSON WANTED MARRIAGE

The story of Iyanya and the Ghanaian actress, Yvonne Nelson is not something that will be forgotten easily.

News says the sexy actress parted ways with rave of the moment artiste, Iyanya when she told him about marriage and the young talent declined.

"Yvonne wanted to take her relationship with Iyanya to the next level but they weren’t on the same page. In fact, I have spoken to a source who told me that Yvonne actually told Iyanya she wanted marriage, but his reactions shocked her. Yvonne sat down and told Iyanya that she wanted to get even more serious and take the next steps in their relationship."

Yvonne was said to have told him that she wanted to have him as hubby and but he wasn’t keen on the idea because he felt it's too early to talk about those things.

“She told him she loved him and would love him forever,” the source stated.

The source goes on to explain why Yvonne was so hurt: “When a lady tell you she loves you and wants to be serious with you and start a real life with you and maybe even have you as husband, you turn her down. That’s all bad. Like game over.”

SOME PEOPLE WANT ME DEAD

Scary reports started spreading yesterday morning that reigning Actor of the Year Van Vicker was involved in a life threatening accident on his way to church on Sunday.

“Gollywood/Nollywood actor Van Vicker had a very terrible accident this morning on his way to church. He’s suffering from internal bleeding gushing out through the mouth, the doctors said he may lose his life but we do not agree. Let us pray; O Lord we join hands today and decree that you save his life today, we believe that you can heal him in the mighty name of Jesus. Please type ‘Amen’ if you wish him quick recovery”, was the report put out on a facebook page belonging to the name ‘Nadia Buari’.

The page, that has over 6400 followers, has the photos of Ghanaian actress Nadia Buari and says it is the “The ONLY official Facebook page of award winning African movie star, Nadia Buari.”

Fans of Van Vicker who saw the post started praying for him and wishing him a speedy recovery throughout the day while the report continued to spread fast on social media.

Some of them even called NEWS-ONE to verify the report, prompting the paper to place a phone call to Van Vicker’s phone to find out his condition.

“These people have speculated my death more than 10 times. I do not know what they want but it could be they just want me dead. They can’t kill me. I am not even in the country so how can anyone say I had an accident on my way to church this morning. Chief, just relax and take it easy. I am fine and very healthy. There is nothing happening to me,” Van Vicker told NEWS-ONE.

The actor later took to his facebook page to further address the issue by writing: “There is a post on an imposter’s page that I had an accident this morning on my way to church and I might die from bleeding. It is a rumour and a stunt to drive traffic to that page. I am well and in great health. Jehovah dey by my side. Stay Eeasy.”

Though the said page is strongly suspected to be a fake ‘Nadia Buari’, it has the exact details of the famous actress. This is how it describes the owner of the page: “My life tells a long story short of an apt and adventurous actress of Africa, born into the family of art…Born in Takoradi in the Western Region of Ghana, I am the daughter of Alhaji and Hajia Sidiku Buari. My father is a very huge figure in the Industry of Art in Ghana, holding several positions including that of being the president of the Musicians Union of Ghana. His leaderships extend beyond the boundaries of Ghana into the international world where he holds very key positions such as the Vice President of International Federation of Musicians. Also as a successful producer, director, musician and actor, his influence in my life is obvious and evident in my present career as an actress.

“My mother, who is a beautician on the other hand, has been the secret behind my looks since childhood. As the first child of the family, I have always pushed to desire the accomplishment of Herculean tasks, a tendency that makes me an inspiration to both my siblings and friends and more especially, to children who I love and who look up to me as someone to learn from while I also consider them as my best friends to learn from…”

The Ghanaian actress has, however, not made any public comment on the incident.
