Actress and television personality,
Joselyn Dumas says she is attached and does not intend to accept any
more marriage proposals from her numerous suitors.
Noted for her
curvy and shapely figure, Joselyn is the dream woman of most men with
4syte TV adjudging her the hottest Ghanaian celebrity in 2012.
The 33-year-old, and mother of one, seems to have had enough of reports that she is single and searching for a man marry.
According to the actress, due to the reports, she has been bombarded with tonnes of marriage proposals.
Joselyn Dumas took to social networking site Facebook Friday dawn to declare that she is “simply” not available.
“Hi
Folks, I AM NOT SINGLE AND SEARCHING so please kindly ignore those
publications on social media. Those are not EXACTLY my words,” she said.
The
bubbly actress added that: “For those who through that have been
sending me tonnes and tonnes of marriage proposals....sorry guys I'm
simply not AVAILABLE. Thanks for your understanding. God bless you.”
After sustaining a leg injury during a
football friendly between the Ghana Actors Guild (GAG) and their
Nigerian counterparts (AGN) at Kumasi Sports Stadium in March, African
top actor, Van Vicker has expressed anger for being neglected by GAG
during the period.
’I was first admitted at Sunshine Hospital in
Ghana and later transferred to United states of America where I am still
receiving medical treatment, but had to come to Ghana to continue with
my movie shoot, and then go back for check- up,’ the actor narrated to
Nigeriafilms.com.
‘I believe one of the responsibilities of the
Guild is to support its members, or support the interest of Ghanaian
actors. I am a member of GAG and that was why I went to play for the
Guild and also to represent Ghana in the name of the Guild. I was told
that the match was to celebrate Ghana’s Independence Day and if for
nothing at all, the Guild should have shown concern,’ he lamented.
He
vented further that, ‘I think it is a sign of ingratitude, because it’s
just like going to work for a friend and getting injured in the process
and the friend turns deaf ears to how you are recovering’.
Speaking
on the way forward, especially insuring Ghanaian actors, the handsome
actor stressed that what happened to him could happen to anyone else and
called for insurance policies for Ghanaian actors.
He also
revealed to Nigeriafilms.com that he has already started meeting
different organizations on that, so very soon , Ghanaian actors will be
informed on that.
Reacting to the allegation raised by Van
Vicker, Mr Samuel Nii Odoi Mensah, president of GAG, told
Nigeriafilms.com that the allegation is not true.
‘I personally
called Van Vicker and I also ‘WhatApped’ him to check up on him because I
was also sick that time and I couldn't play active role in the match. I
was frequently checking up on him, as well as actress, Emelia Brobbey,
who did that on our behalf’ he responded.
He added that ‘If Mr
Van Vicker is criticising the Guild because we didn’t support in payment
of his bills, for that I admit and all I can say about it is that, our
members don’t pay their dues for us to be able to support any member in
cash. We would have supported him if we had the cash.’
All is set for the candlelight
procession being organized by the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) in
Ada, today (Sunday, July 13) for missing Hiplife artiste, Castro.
A
member of MUSIGA and Hiplife artiste, Okyeame Kwame revealed that the
association will be holding this ceremony as a sign of hope that their
comrade would be found.
It has been exactly 8 days since
Theophilus Tagoe, known in showbiz cycles as “CASTRO UNDERFYRE” and
Janet Bandu of “I am in Love with Bomaye” fame went “Missing” when they
went jet skiing on the Ada-Volta estuary.
The two are suspected
to have drowned after a Jet Ski accident on the Volta Lake in Ada. But
families of the two, music lovers and friends are keeping hope alive.
“The
candlelight will stand for hope in the darkness and the flowers will
also signify love. We don’t know whether he’s still alive or whether
he’s gone. This is a gesture of love, hope and fear all mixed together,”
Okyeame Kwame explained.
He mentioned that the team would leave Accra on Sunday for Ada for the ceremony.
The
night ceremony will be accompanied with solemn live band music and it
will be spearheaded by all-time music maestro, Kojo Antwi.
Efya will be performing at the Tribe
One Music Festival, taking place in South Africa from September 26-28,
2014, enewsgh.com can exclusively report.
We can also tell you
that the Afro Neo-Soul songstress is joining American female hip hop
head, Nicki Minaj, for the three-day event, which also has an impressive
core of artistes lined up.
They include Kid Ink , Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Khuli Chana, Dbanj, AKA and Fally Ipupa.
Happening
in Cullinan, Tshwane, South Africa, Efya will perform alongside Minaj
on the ‘Diamond Fields’ stage, which is one of three main stages being
used for the festival.
Set to be a huge break for the Ghanaian,
the South African event will hold on the back of an impressive first and
second quarter chain of cross-boarder performances, the more recent
being an industry event in Nigeria.
This is Minaj’s first African date, and brings to reality a long-held dream of coming to the motherland.
The organizers are more than excited she is coming.
“To
say we are thrilled to have such an amazing talent and global megastar
such as Minaj take centre stage at TribeOne Dinokeng this year in the
amazing City of Tshwane is a complete understatement. Fans have so much
in store for them with Nicki’s first ever performance on the shores of
the African,” says Jandre Louw, Founder and CEO of TribeOne Festivals.
Tribe One Music Festival is powered by ROCKSTAR4000 and Sony Music Entertainment.
At a time when the continued
existence of Hiplife trio 4x4, appears threatened by the recent marriage
of the leader, Captain Planet, to the former Chief Marketing Officer of
Vodafone, Uche Ofodile, the group has come out to allay the fears of a
break-up.
Captain Planet told Showbiz last week Friday that the
group is working tirelessly to “feed their fans with great music” and
the last thing that could possibly cross their minds is the break-up of
the group because of his wife’s relocation to South Africa.
“I
can confidently say that my marriage will not have any negative effect
on our brand and no member of the group is relocating.
“It is my
wife whose job will take her to new places in the world but officially,
we reside in Ghana and this is where we have our home as a couple.
“She
is only going to work and will always be back to the country and I will
also pay her visits whenever the need arises. We are mature people who
understand what marriage is about so I don’t think that it will have a
toll on our respective careers. We understand each other very well and
know what marriage entails,” he said.
For one who said he
strongly believes in the institution of marriage, Captain Planet who
recently got back from his honeymoon was hesitant to talk about marriage
life and expectations. “So far, so good but I will rather want to talk
about the projects the group is involved in”.
As a member of a
group who has enjoyed glorious days characterised with the sweeping of
many awards, Captain Planet believes that even after a decade of being
on the music scene, they are still a formidable group to reckon with.
He
discounted claims that his recent marriage would put pressure on Fresh
Prince to also settle down since he is the only bachelor in the group.
“Prince is a talented young man who is more concentrated on his career”.
He
came to the group’s defense when he was asked about their seeming
waning popularity. He confidently talked about how the group had
survived the years despite the tides and challenges that came with the
“job”.
“4x4 never dies, we rather multiply. We were two and added
a member so we are a group that progresses and do not retrogress like
other groups that have fallen apart. I laugh anytime I hear such
comments because we set a record in the industry that is yet to be
broken.
“Ten years, we made back to back hits and no group has
beaten that achievement. It should be put on record that 4X4 doesn’t
release songs without planning because if you fail to plan, you plan to
fail.
Many artistes can’t climb the ladder of success because
they release without any consideration because others are doing so. But I
don’t think it is a competition,” he said.
Captain Planet told
Showbiz that he is currently in Ada with other artistes hoping to find
their missing colleague, Castro, who is feared drowned at the Ada
Estuary last Sunday. He said Castro is a protégé of 4X4 since they
discovered and featured him on their debut album, Siklitele, in 2003
which brought him to public prominence.
He said but for the
“nightmare” that the country had been plunged into following Castro’s
“disappearance”, the group would have released a new single this week
but had to hold on in solidarity with what had happened.
The 4x4
group which is made up of Sylvanus Dodji Jeoffrey (Captain Planet), Edem
Avornyo (Coded) and Prince Tamakloe (Fresh Prince) are currently signed
on to Don Jeff Records.
He gave a hint about the release of the
video of their new single, Baby Dance, which featured Nigerian artiste,
Davido, this month.
Steve Asare Hackman, president of the
Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG) says despite the
difficulties facing the movie industry, he does not believe the industry
will die anytime soon.
“I don’t believe that the movie industry
will die any time soon. If you look at what is happening even in Kumasi
right now, you will find out that a lot of producers are producing films
every hour, everyday and every month. Based on that alone, I don’t
think the industry will collapse,” Mr Hackman told NEWS-ONE.
Steve
Hackman’s assertion was in response to a recent submission by movie
producer Socrates Sarfo that Ghana’s movie industry will go down the
drain sooner than later.
Socrates had stated: “An industry has
been created to kill an industry. The movie industry has been sacrificed
for free TV viewing and when the quality falls, which it will soon, the
people won’t even want to watch it for free on TV anymore due to poor
quality.”
But the FIPAG boss explained that the association has a
regulation which prevents producers from giving their movies to TV
stations unless it is two or more years old.
“When we came into
office, what we did was that we came out with a regulation that new
movies should not be given to TV stations unless after two years of
exploitation – production, sales and distribution. But some producers
still find their way to go give their new films to TV stations based
upon the agreement they have with these stations. The executive of FIPAG
is coming hard with a hammer so those who violate our rules and
regulations will be dealt with.
“I think what we need to look at
is the individual producers. If you produce a movie and you think that
giving it to TV stations will help you to recoup your money, fine. But I
think what we need to look at as producers is what we want. Because
after production it goes to distribution, then to video sales, then it
goes to pay per view TV unlike what we have in Ghana now, which is free
per view TV. Producers are wide awake and I don’t think they will just
give their movies to TV stations for free,” he said.
However, Mr
Hackman was quick to add that FIPAG is an individual association and
like the laws of the land say, people have the freedom of association.
“Our
association is an individual one and as it stands in Ghana, there is
freedom of association, so if you press it too hard, the person can
decide not to be a member of the association. Sometimes we need to rub
their shoulders and try to explain to them the reason why they are not
supposed to do certain things. There are still some producers among us
who do not give out their movies to the TV stations,” he added.
Family of missing Hiplife artiste
Castro De Destroyer has stopped the umbrella body for musicians in Ghana
– the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), from organizing any ceremony
meant to mark the one week of Castro’s mysterious disappearance.
The
family led by Castro’s father revealed this to the union over the
weekend when members and some executives visited the family in Accra.
Prior
to their visit to the family on Saturday July 12, MUSIGA had already
began publicity on a solemn night vigil in form of a candle light
procession scheduled for yesterday Sunday July 13 at Ada where the
unfortunate incident happened.
MUSIGA in collaboration with Kojo
Antwi’s Breeze 90.9 FM planned a song and prayer vigil at Ada in
solidarity with Castro’s family at 5pm Sunday July 13 and the dress code
was supposed to be white but it appears MUSIGA did not give Castro’s
family prior notice early enough for them to decide whether they were
going to give them the go-ahead before they went public with the
information.
In view of this, the family cancelled the much anticipated vigil for Castro just few hours before the scheduled date.
"The
planned trip by MUSIGA and Breeze FM to Ada for a prayer session in
solidarity with Castro has been called off till further notice. Sorry
for the inconvenience”, sent to the media on Saturday evening by MUSIGA
administrator Daddy Bosco.
Even though MUSIGA did not really
state the real reason why the vigil was called off, a member of Castro’s
family who spoke to Peacefmonline.com on condition of anonymity
disclosed that due to some superstitious beliefs and the fact that the
family still believes Castro is alive, they couldn't have allowed MUSIGA
to go ahead with night vigil.
“We believe our son Castro is
still alive so why should we allow something like this to happen in his
memory as if he is dead. We will only accept his death when we see his
dead body”.
Sunday was exactly one week since the incident and
according the Akan tradition if any ceremony is allowed to happen on the
that particular day, then it’s as though the family has accepted that
Castro is dead.
MUSIGA intended to organize this annually in
anticipation that Castro would return alive one day or even if he is
dead his body may be found.
The family has however agreed to
collaborate with MUSIGA for any arrangement later when they finally
decide to organize any ceremony in memory of Castro.
Theophilus
Tagoe, known in showbiz cycles as “CASTRO UNDERFYRE” and Janet Bandu of
“I am in Love with Bomaye” fame went “Missing” on Sunday July 6, when
they went jet skiing on the Ada-Volta estuary.
The two are
suspected to have drowned after a Jet Ski accident on the Volta Lake in
Ada. But families of the two, music lovers and friends are keeping hope
alive.
Valentina Nana Agyeiwaa, aka Afia
Schwarzenegger, an actress and a presenter on UTV, who has been accused
of making defamatory statements about Becca, has expressed excitement
over the ‘You Lied Me’ hit-maker’s decision to institute a legal action
against her.
Afia Schwarzenegger told BEATWAVES in a chat that
she is ever ready to meet Becca in court, adding, “I am happy that at
least the issue will be resolved by the court.”
The presenter has
denied ever alleging that Becca, one of the ambassadors selected by the
Sports Ministry to rally support for the Black Stars and raise funds
for supporters, was involved in any sex scandal with any Black Stars
player in Brazil during the 2014 World Cup in exchange for money.
“The
court will give me the opportunity to defend myself. I have known Becca
for sometime now and do not have any bad feelings against Becca. I am
waiting to be served with the writ,” she added.
Some weeks ago,
Becca came out with a statement that the presenter on her prime time TV
show on UTV had accused her of having sex with a member of the Black
Stars team in exchange for money.
Prior to the airing of the said
programme, Afia posted the agenda for the evening’s show and included
one topic labelled as ‘sex ambassadors’.
Becca, who described the
allegation as baseless and lacking any merit, hinted that she had
already instructed her lawyers to take legal action against Afia
Schwarzenegger and others who were actively involved in tarnishing her
hard-earned reputation through the allegation.
Popular actress Yvonne Okoro on
Tuesday released a new trailer for her cooking TV show ‘Dining With’,
teasing her guest and TV host Naa Ashorkor Mensah Doku, sister Elizabeth
Okoro and Sandra Ankobiah over their inability to prepare pizza.
“You
know this between you and me, Naa Ashorkor sucks; she can’t cook to
save her life. That girl was just spreading the food all over…what were
Sandra and Elizabeth doing?” she teased.
Interestingly, the ladies themselves also admitted their fault and blamed each other for the mess.
The
trailer is the second since reports of the show. It is a blend of a
talk show and a cooking show, produced by the popular actress’
Desamour
Company Ltd, producers of the award-winning hit movie, ‘Contract’ in
collaboration with Ifactory Live, producers of Jim Iyk’s ‘Unscripted’
and Omotola’s ‘The Real Me’.
The 13-episode show will start airing on TV very soon and also on www.desamourtv.com.
The show, which comes with some hilarious moments, is being produced to meet the interest of all kinds of viewers.
High-life musician Pozo Hayes says
his condition as a physically challenged person has moved him to help
make life less difficult for persons living with disabilities.
He
is therefore embarking on a musical tour to raise funds for a charity
project that will help the physically challenged in Ghanaian orphanages.
He
is scheduled to perform at Bronx in New York, Woodbridge in Virginia
and North Brunswick with his PH International Band by the end of this
year.
The musician said it would be an honour to put smiles on
the faces of persons living with disability especially those who have no
one to cater for them.
“Although I cannot solve all the problems
facing the physically challenged persons in Ghana, I believe my little
contribution will help a lot,” he added.
He lamented that the physically challenged are mostly left on the streets and no attention is given them.
“It
saddens my heart when I see physically challenged person on the streets
begging for money. Because I am one, I feel like weeping when I come
across them. The show is to raise funds for the physically challenged
and the orphanages and I wish corporate bodies can come on board to
help,” he added. The tour is being put together by Royal Community
Services and Eternal Life Ministries in Somerset NJ, USA.
Known
for songs like ‘Akeka akeka’, ‘Odo mu nsohwe’, ‘Obaa Lydia’, Pozo said
he waited a long time to thrill his fans who have not heard from him in
these few years.
Pozo was awarded Best Singer at the
Entertainment Critics Reviewers Association of Ghana in 1988 and Voice
of the Year at Sunshine Music Society the same year.
DJ Amess, former manager of hiplife
musician Castro has condemned a planned candlelight procession organised
by the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) in honour of the artiste.
Rescue
operations started Sunday, July 6, 2014 for Castro, born Theophilus
Tagoe, and his female companion, Janet Bandu who went missing while jet
skiing on the Volta Lake at Ada.
Castro and Black Stars captain,
Asamoah Gyan were at the Peace Holiday Resort in Ada, together with some
friends, for recreation when the unfortunate incident occurred.
The
Marine Division of the Ghana Police Service intensified search
operations Monday but as at Friday, hopes of finding Castro and Janet
alive, seemed to have been lost.
According to DJ Amess, Castro is
part of the 100 musicians who took the Ghana Music Right Organization
(GHAMRO) to court, accusing Carlos Sakyi, former Chairman of GHAMRO, of
embezzling funds collected on behalf of music rights owners in Ghana,
and was shocked that MUSIGA was not able to issue a statement but wanted
to organise a procession in his memory.
“I’m sorry, I am disappointed in my own group (MUSIGA),” he told Hitz FM in an interview.
Hiplife
musician Okyeame Kwame, a member of MUSIGA had revealed on Hitz FM that
MUSIGA was going to hold a candlelight procession in Ada on Sunday,
July 13.
The ceremony, he noted, was a sign of hope that their comrade would be found.
A
delegation from the musicians' group, headed by Nana Kwaku Okyere Duah
(Tic Tac) visited Castro’s family in a bid to get their permission for
the event but his family turned down the request on the grounds that
Castro has not been dead.
DJ Amess complained about news circulating on social media that Castro is dead.
“The family hasn’t confirmed that their child is dead or alive,” he added.
The disappearance of Theophilus Tagoe
aka Castro and Janet Bandu has surprisingly ventured into another week
without possible answers to the circumstances surrounding their loss and
solutions to either finding them alive or dead.
Castro’s tragedy
is trending as the most shocking story making the headlines with all
forms of conspiracy theories coming to play and with ‘mallams’ and
‘Maame Water’ agents all coming to the fore with outrageous suggestions
and opinions.
In all these, one very important person who has not
featured prominently in discussions over the week is the wife of
Castro, who has remained uncharacteristically quiet in moments like
this.
When news made rounds that Castro might have drowned with
his alleged girlfriend, many people raised questions about the artiste’s
fidelity, others were not aware of his marital status and some have
even asserted that; Castro and the wife are divorced.
Razz
newspaper has news that the wife of Castro, Mrs Dorothy Tagoe will be in
Ghana before the close of the week from her base in Canada.
According
to findings of the paper, Mrs Tagoe is jetting down to Ghana for
several reasons; to squash trending rumours about the status of their
marriage, to show solidarity to the families and to look for her
husband.
After the incident and the aftermath, many media firms
have tried reaching Mrs Tagoe to ascertain whether she is/was legally
married to the multiple award-winning artiste before his disappearance:
and also to find out how she is feeling in the midst of all the stories
emerging concerning her husband.
When one Maa Afia, the said
sister to Mrs Dorothy Tagoe was contacted, she declined to issue any
comment on Castro’s vanishing and his marriage-saying that the family
has given strict orders that nobody from the family should grant
interviews. She however intimated that, her sister, Castro’s wife will
be in Ghana to address any nagging issues.
Maafia also confirmed that Theophilus Tagoe and Dorothy Tagoe are legally married and have never divorced.
Gospel musician Grace Ashy, and
actress Rose Akua Attaa Mensah, alias Kyeiwaa, on Tuesday, led a group
showbiz artistes to present an appeal to the Women Caucus in Parliament
to support Ghanaians women in soccer.
The appeal comes ahead of the FIFA Women's World Cup scheduled for Canada next year, 2015.
As the world finished paying attention to the World Cup which took
place in Brazil, Canada is gearing up for a massive soccer championship
of its own.
In a chat with the caucus, Grace Ashy recalled the
role music and cheer-songs had played in elevating the men’s side of
Ghanaian soccer, and appealed to the Women Caucus to make the elevation
of women soccer, a matter of concern in their deliberations in the
House.
She stressed that it was important that the Caucus
supported artistes in their efforts to use performances to promote game
among women, to reclaim their lost glory in soccer.
Kyeiwaa,
displaying some acting antics, and shouting some cheer songs, said the
artistes were ready to use their media to promote the game to elevate to
the height men soccer had reached.
Hajia Mary Salifu Boforo,
Chairperson of the Women’s Caucus, commended the artistes on their
initiative, and pledged the support of the caucus.
Actress and TV personality, Ama K
Abebrese earlier this year, kicked off a campaign to fight against skin
bleaching and skin toning.
The initiative has now reached its peak with billboards popping up in Accra and Kumasi to send across her message.
With
the help of Hamamat, winner of Miss Malaika Ghana 2012, Actress Nana
Ama Mcbrown and actress/singer Paulina Oduro, Ama K is taking her
spreading her campaign wide and across all media.
Her choice of Nana Ama McBrown, and
Pauline Oduro, clearly sends the message that the campaign is not
against light skin but a message for women in particular to love their
skin, no matter the shade or tone!
Ama K posted on her Instagram:
“Some of the billboards of ‘Say NO to skin bleaching/skin toning’
campaign are out on the streets of Accra and Kumasi. #Ghana. Have you
spotted any of them? Tell us where. #ilovemynaturalskintone”.
Everybody was waiting to hear the new
date for the wedding of Actor Chris Attoh and the love of his life,
Damilola Adegbite but from what Peacefmonline.com is reading on social
media this morning, it appears Chris and Damilola may have tied the knot
secretly.
They announced in January 2014 that they are a couple
and later revealed they’ll be tying the knot this April but they
postponed the wedding till later this year or early next year.
However,
Actor and TV star, Chris Attoh has hinted that he is now officially
married to his Nigerian fiancée, Damilola Adegbite.
The pair have been officially joined together in holy matrimony. Chris confirmed in a Facebook post on Wednesday morning.
The ceremony comes months after both announced they were expecting their first child.
Call
it an on-screen chemistry that got serious as the years went by, as you
would not be far from it. The former Tinsel stars have both featured in
several movies together including 6 Hours to Christmas, Flower Girl and
others.
Ghana’s rap doctor Okyeame Kwame says
though it has been over a week since hip-life artiste Castro went
missing on the Volta Lake and is now feared dead, the missing artiste
could be in Togo.
Castro went missing on Sunday July 6, 2014,
while jet skiing on the Volta Lake at Ada where he was holidaying with
Black Stars’ Captain, Asamoah Gyan and some other friends.
Reports say Castro – born Theophilus Tagoe – drowned while trying to save Janet Bandu, an acquaintance.
But
Okyeame Kwame stated that considering the geographical location of Ada,
the Estuary and the sea, if Castro was drawn into the sea he could have
possibly drifted towards Togo.
“I don’t believe Castro is dead
because he was a good swimmer. From Ada, Togo is on the east and it is
very possible that our brother might have washed up there,” the ‘Woso’
hit maker said on Joy TV’s ‘White Carpet’.
Asked whether he
misses Castro, Okyeame Kwame added, “Now I can’t say I miss Castro
because he is just constantly on my mind. I don’t miss him. We just hope
to find him. I do not miss him because I don’t think he is dead,” he
said.
A search party led by the Marine Unit of the Ghana Police
Service with assistance from the Ghana Navy and local folks have since
been searching tirelessly to find both Castro and Janet.
Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New
Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly called Chairman
Wontumi on Tuesday moved to Ada to seek first hand information that
could lead to the unravelling of the mystery surrounding the whereabouts
of the missing hip-life musician, Castro and his friend, Janet, who
seemingly drowned on Sunday July 6.
Wontumi was accompanied by
political satirist and sensational musician Barima Sidney and Yaw
Adomako Baafi, a lawyer and a member of the NPP Communication team.
“Castro
is a personal friend of mine and I became greatly worried when we
started to hear all those reports and it was confusing because some of
the reports were contradictory so we decided to go to Ada to get first
hand information on what actually happened and where we have reached. We
got here at 6:00 am and we have spoken to several groups and
individuals,” Chairman Wontumi explained to NEWS-ONE.
Asked if
the trip yielded any fruitful results that could help in the search,
Wontumi said the situation was a difficult one, yet all hope was not
lost.
“All I can say is that we should pray and continue to pray.
We have to believe in God and rely on God at this point. There are a
few revelations we were made to understand, so let us keep praying to
God and believe all things are possible with God,” Wontumi added.
Prior to the trip to Ada, Wontumi had criticised President John Mahama for remaining silent on the development.
“The
President, John Mahama should have come out to say something to
Ghanaians and Castro’s family. Castro has become a national asset and
the President should have come out to tell us the whereabouts of Castro
and Janet and the outcome of the search. He can even bring in foreign
divers to help in the search. His silence is worrying and we are all
getting worried.
“Castro is a public figure and I don’t know why
the President cannot give the nation some hope or some assurance to calm
the several worried Ghanaians… If the Marine Police are working, it
does not mean the President should remain silent. If this was in
America, Obama would have come out with a statement. I am worried.
President Mahama must come out to tell us where Castro is. Castro served
Ghana and this tragedy happened to him, I have not eaten because Castro
is part of the persons who entertain the several millions of
Ghanaians,” Wontumi added.
Barima Sidney, after the trip, wrote
on this facebook wall: “If Jesus says yes!! Volta Lake has no say…myself
and Chairman Wontumi, Adomako Baafi currently in Ada….more
revelations.”
Pretty Ghanaian actress, Juliet
Ibrahim has disclosed that she and her husband, Kwadwo Safo had been
divorced for a year and they decided to keep it private because of their
son.
The actress in a release affirmed speculations that her four-year-old marriage to Kwadwo Safo had come to an end.
She
explained in the statement that her decision “to keep the divorce on
the low was so that the two involved would not be distracted from their
responsibilities toward the child they have together.”
Speaking
in an exclusive interview with Myjoyonline.com, Juliet, who was adjudged
the Best Ghanaian Actress at the 2014 edition of the City people
Entertainment Awards held in Nigeria, said she and Kwadwo were separated
a year before that.
“I am divorced. It’s over a year now…we were separated for a long time,” she said.
The
bubbly actress and producer said she was pushed to release the
statement on the divorce due to the false rumours people were peddling
about her.
Juliet disclosed that even though she and Kwadwo Safo,
son of renowned Ghanaian religious leader, Apostle Kwadwo Safo, are
officially divorced, they are still the best of friends and they
constantly keep in touch.
“We are cool. On a normal day, he will
call me and we will be chatting like a brother and sister. Almost every
day we talk. It’s not about love, but we have a bond, we have a child
together,” she said beaming with smiles.
The award winning
actress refuted speculations that the divorce was fuelled by her husband
cheating on her allegedly: “Nobody's cheating on anybody. It’s a mutual
agreement” and that things were not working between them.
‘Marriage regrets’
To
Juliet, marriage was sweet but her only regret was that she rushed into
it without examining fully whether they were compatible as a couple.
“Maybe
the only regret I hold is the fact that maybe I should have waited and
really know if we were ready to be in marriage but we're just like young
people in love so we didn’t think twice about it. We just went in for
it, maybe we should have taken our time to really know if we can live
together,” she revealed.
The actress explained further that,
“It’s a different thing when you are dating somebody and then living
with the person so maybe if we would have taken our time we would have
known that maybe we are better off as boyfriend-girlfriend than to be
married.”
Asked the chances of them coming back together, Juliet
burst into laughter and said “it is possible” but “if I happen to meet
someone I also love more than him, I will change my mind.”
Her
three-year-old son, Jaiden, she noted, is coping well. She and her
husband are doing their best to make enough time for him to always feel
at home. “He knows we don’t live together.”
‘Movie life’
Juliet
Ibrahim, born to a Lebanese father and a half Ghanaian-half-Liberian
mother, entered into acting after she won Queen of Languages of the
Institute of Languages in 2004. Her firstmovie role was in ‘Crime to
Christ.'
She is planning to celebrate her 10th anniversary in the movie industry later this year.
The
actress said contrary to perceptions, she is a shy person, “an ordinary
girl” and “very friendly” and that “when people look at me on the
street and tell me they think I am stuck up and I am rude and they don’t
like me because of my personality, I laugh because you’ve only seen the
personality I acted on screen [and not real life] and that means I was
so good to convince you that I am that bad but naturally I am not.”
‘Nudity’
Asked
if she will ever accept to play nude in a movie, Juliet Ibrahim
stressed that even for 10 million dollars, she won’t accept such a role.
She
explained that, “there is a limit to what you can do in movies in
Africa because of our culture and upbringing. Morally there are some
things if you overdo it, it’s going to be wrong. I have done a couple of
movies where I have to kiss people romantically, it’s done, it’s just
acting…
“it’s done well in a manner that people don’t see it as
bad but when you want to now start taking off cloths, and maybe like
going naked, I can’t do that because I’m a mother, I have a child. I’m a
typical African woman, grounded to the roots. There are things that I
know that I will never be comfortable that my mother is watching movie,
my mum is seeing me doing [in movies].”
As a producer, she has
her own rules and regulations when it comes to movies and believes that
“there is a tasteful way of doing things when you want to produce or
when you want act all these love making [scenes].”
‘Music’
Juliet
disclosed that she loves dancing and singing and that music is her
first passion before acting. She has so far has three singles to her
credit, ‘Celebrate,' ‘Traffic Jam’, and ‘It’s Over Now.'
She said
she will be releasing an eight-track album by December this year. The
album will feature some Ghanaian and Nigerian musicians.
False stories’
Juliet
Ibrahim is one of many celebrities who constantly receive media
attention for both the right and wrong reasons. Interestingly, she said
about 70 percent of stories about her in the media are false.
According
to her, she used to be worried about false reportage about her when she
entered the industry in 2004 but she has now grown to take them
lightly.
“I have come so far” in the industry that, she does not
“really listen to what people say. I have heard so much, there are times
I wake up in the morning and somebody quotes me in an interview that
they claim they had with me.”
‘Producing movies’
“Producing
is very challenging but acting is sweet” explaining that a producer has
to make sure that “the money you’ve been given to produce a movie does
not exceed the budget.”
She admitted that combining acting and
producing is very stressful. She is currently the CEO of Jewels
Productions. She funded her first movie, the ‘Number One Fan’ which was
premiered in Ghana last year.
She is currently working on a new
project, ‘Shattered Romance'. The movie stars, Brian Okwara, and Benro
Ajebade from Nigeria and Ghanaian actors, Pascaline Edwards, Paulina
Edwards, Sonia Ibrahim, and herself. Eddie Nartey is directing the
movie.
‘The Juliet Ibrahim Foundation’
She started the Juliet Ibrahim Foundation to help fund Kidney and Cancer patients in Ghana.
The
foundation, since its launch in 2011, has touched the lives of several
people including Richard Kwasi Yeboah, who will be having a kidney
transplant later this month.
