DKB AND NII AYI TAGOE FACE OFF!

When temper loses, this is what will definitely happen. There was a little misunderstanding between Joy FM’s Nii Ayi Tagoe and comedian DKB last Saturday which led to exchange of words. What really happened for this to happen, Graphic Showbiz has more on it.

Last Saturday, radio show host, Nii Ayi Tagoe, literally lost his cool.

Obvoiusly smarting by the seemingly arrogant demands of an invited guest on his Rythms A-Z programme on Joy FM, Nii Ayi Tagoe asked bluntly who DKB, his guest who refused to turn up, thought he was.

According to Nii Tagoe, DKB (real name Derick Kobina Bonney), a stand-up comedian and a former Big Brother Africa housemate, had agreed to be part of that afternoon’s radio discussion on the state of live comedy presentations in Ghana.
Other guests on the show, Fritz Baffour, David Oscar, and Hogan, who are experienced players of that drama type, were making useful contributions when the name of DKB, came up.

That was when Nii Tagoe revealed that DKB had been invited to be part of the programme, but he had called shortly before the programme had taken off that his car had broken down. According to Nii Tagoe, when he suggested to DKB that he should pick a taxi to the studio on his account, DKB told him that he did not use taxis and that it would be better if a company car from Joy FM came to pick him up. This request, Nii Tagoe found rather unreasonable and asked who does he think he is?

But DKB has denied making such a demand. Speaking to Showbiz last Tuesday, DKB, who sounded rather let-down, blamed the whole incident on misinformation. While conceding that he had a transportation problem, he said he was only joking with the producer of the programme. “I had told him earlier that I would definitely make it to the show but when he started piling pressure on me, I told him in jest that he should come and fetch me. It was only a joke,” he said.

DKB told Showbiz that he takes his comedy business seriously and regretted that many people do not seem to be aware of what he and his colleagues in the business are doing. He revealed that he was working on his own comedy show that will debut soon.

He also said that on February 27, he will be starting a tour, ‘DKB Live!’ at the University of Professional studies in Accra.

On Last Saturday’s Rythms A-Z, it appears it was not only Nii Ayi Tagoe who was all ready to say things as they were. George Quaye, aka Aboagye, who has had considerable dealings with stand-up comedians as event producer called in to sting Ghanaian comedians, describing most of them as “wack”.

Quaye’ contribution to the programme, captured by joyfmonline quoted him explaining why his outfit did not use a lot more Ghanaian comedians. “Many Ghanaian comedians are not good enough”, he said.

He disclosed that he had auditioned several Ghanaian comedians over the years and “they were totally appalling.”

According to George, “I think most of our Ghanaian comedians are wack and they really need to go back and learn. They need to draw inspiration from our big dons like the Fritz Baffours, the Tommy Annan Forsons, the KSMs, they need to look up to the big dons in the industry, those that made it and draw some inspiration.”

AWURAMA BADU SAYS, “I'M A GREAT FAN OF AZONTO MUSIC; DON'T KILL IT”

Ace Highlife musician, Awurama Badu has appealed to Ghanaians especially the elderly folks, to desist from castigating the new wave of Ghanaian music known popularly as "Azonto" as well as its dance moves.

“There is time for everything; the oldies have had their fair share of the cake and now is the time for the young,” she added.

Awurama Badu is still strong and vibrant and has promised her fans a thrilling performance this valentine season in Tema.

The popular musician made the hit with songs such as "Komkom", "Medofo adaada me" and "Emelia".

WE ARE DISGUSTED BY PUBLICATION - SAYS ELIKEM & GIRLFRIEND POKELLO

Big Brother lovebirds, Elikem Komordzie and Pokello Nare say they are disgusted by a publication in a Zimbabwean newspaper alleging that the Ghanaian said women from his country are better than Zimbabwean women.

The paper, The Herald, quoted Elikem as saying in an interview that Ghanaian women are better in many ways than their Zimbabwean counterparts.

“Ghanaian women are more beautiful compared to Zimbabwean women because they know how to take good care of themselves fashion wise; they have manners and are well cultured, I can say they are ahead and better off than Zimbo ladies except for my Pokello who has lived up to my billing,” the paper reported Elikem as saying.

That report angered many Zimbabweans precisely because the Ghanaian is currently in a head over heels love relationship with a Zimbabwean, Pokello.

The couple - Elikem and Pokello - have been infuriated by the publication which they have described as malicious and a clear misrepresentation of facts.

The Ghanaian, who is currently in Zimbabwe, took to social networking site, Twitter, to vent his anger at the report: "In the beginning I complained [about] media. And [at] the end. @HeraldZimbabwe is no different. They [came] like they are friends."

"@HeraldZimbabwe. Y would you quote me wrongly and write what I didnt say. Things u shud hav put. Isn't it ironic how I complained about the media in the beginning of this news paper. And yet they go on and do yawa. My wife is Zimbo. So nw y wud I?" the Ghanaian designer added.

Elikem's fiancé jump in support of her man also stating on Twitter that: "Media likes to twist things. The journalist asked Elikem about [Ghanaian] women and he said they were well cultured."

"Why Herald reporter TafadZwa Zimoyo is now trying to make a simple interview a topic of controversy beats me," Pokello wondered and quizzed, "Can this journalist please produce the recording of this interview!"

A reaction from the writer of the story, in a form of a text message to Pokello, blamed readers for misconstruing the report.

The text message as posted by Pokello read: "The story is good just that misconception of people hence reaction Bt very sorry..."

FIGHT OVER GHANA MUSIC WEEK

The tussle over who has the legal right to use the franchise and brand name, ‘Ghana Music Week’ has started again between the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), on one hand and owners of Mad Time Entertainment on the other hand.

Days after MUSIGA launched the 2014 edition of the Ghana music Week Festival, Artiste Manager Fennec Okyere and Rapper Kwaw Kese have dared the association’s President, Bice ‘Obour’ Osei Kuffour to go ahead with the festival if he wants to be slapped with a legal suit.

Indeed, when MUSICA launched the 2013 edition last year, Fennec cried foul, claiming he had registered ‘Ghana Music Week’ and therefore MUSIGA had no legal right to use the brand name.

After broad stakeholder consultations, Fennec yielded to pleas for MUSIGA to be allowed to go ahead with the event last year because preparations were far advanced and all was set to roll.

“Obour, myself and Kwaw were all summoned to the Registrar General’s Department sand they were told by the arbitrator there that MUSIGA cannot use the name GMW. He further told them that if they wanted to use the name, they had to negotiate with us first. But for some reason they are now calling it GMW Festival. What does the GMW mean?,” Fennec told News-One on Sunday and said he and Kwaw Kesse are the rightful owners of the brand name.

“We have incorporated the name Ghana Music Week as our company name and we have also registered Ghana Music Week as our company name and we have also registered Ghana Music Week Festival as our product. Kwaw Kese and I are 50-50 owners of the company and we have all the legal backing to prove it,” he added and said he has not given MUSIGA any permission to use the brand name under any condition.

When the dispute broke out last year chairman of business at MUSIGA said Fennec has no case and that the brand name actually belongs to MUSIGA.

“I think we don’t have to waste time on this issue. I am glad that he courts in Ghana are still potent so we will test the law in this country on this issue,” Rex, GMW was first celebrated in 2002 and then in 2013 by MUSIGA and for that reason he did not understand why Fennec and Kwaw Kesse would go ahead to the Registrar General’s Department and register it as their company.

“Are you telling me that someone can just wake up and go and register the name Rex Omar which I have been using on stage over 20 years? I thank God Ghana is not a jungle but a civilized country so let’s see what happen,” Rex noted.

Meanwhile, some entertainment pundits have argued the MUSIGA has all the right to claim ownership of the GMW Festival because even though they failed to register the event in their name, they were the first to actually start an event like that with the name.

However, a source close to the union told the paper that Obour and some of his executives had earlier tried to go behind Fennec and Kwaw Kese to register the GMW but he attempt proved futile.

Perhaps it could be the reason by MUSIGA is calling this year’s edition ‘GMW’ Festival instead of Ghana Music Week Festival.

The second edition of the GMW would take place from March 3 to March 9, 2014 at the National Theatre, Accra Sports Stadium and some selected venues in Accra.

HOW WE SHARE OUR INCOME - P-SQUARE

Nigerian superstar, Peter Okoye of PSquare in a recent interview reveals that Psquare would never go solo and how they share their income.

He also explained how they share their income:

Peter said:

Never! We are happy and we share 50-50 of everything. If we do an album now and I am responsible for all the jobs, Paul would still get his 50 per cent. Sometimes, I would write a song and sing the first verse. Paul’s voice may not be good for that second verse but you won’t be able to tell the difference. The only person who may push us to go solo is our mother and that is not going to be possible.

Nigerian R&B duo, Psquare composed of Identical brothers, Peter and Paul Okoye have made their marks in the music industry both at home and abroad.

The duo who have won over 17 Awards have their own record label, squared Records and were also signed to Akon's Konvict Muzik label in 2011, while in 2012 signed a record distribution deal with Unversal Music, South Africa.

Peter Okoye is happily married to Lola with two kids while Paul has a kid with his fiance, Anita Isama.

EFYA COMES CLEAR ON HER MARRIAGE ISSUES…

Contrary to earlier media reports, songstress Efya isn’t waiting to win a Grammy before getting married.

In an interview with 'Elia Chebib of GH and Beyond', she set the records straight on what she actually said and how her exact words have been taken out of context.

“I didn’t say I was not going to get married till I win a Grammy. I know that’s how it seemed like but this is what I said :‘I said I’m not ready to get married yet and then in between the time if I win a Grammy, I would be grateful,” she said.

“I believe in love and I love love and I love the people that I love and because of that maybe they love me back and might want to take me personal but I did not say if I do not win a Grammy, I won’t get married.”

“I just said that I will like to win a Grammy during this time when I’m not so engulfed about the whole fantasy of getting married like some young women do at my age.”

The four time GMA Best Female Vocalist winner also spoke of how her music has evolved over the years.

“My music has evolved. I can’t say that it hasn’t because I can feel it and my fans also feel it. And the people that I work with feel it. My producers also realize that I’m not making the same kind of music that I used to make before and that is also very good for an artiste because it shows your level of development at certain point and I love it.”

Efya’s debut album 'Love Genes' is set for release later this year.

I BATTLED STROKE FOR TWO MONTHS - VETERAN ACTRESS

Veteran actress Amanorbea Dodoo cannot stop thanking God for healing her when she battled stroke for two months last year.

The 50-year old told Showbiz it was not easy for her during her illness. “I could do virtually nothing. I was involuntarily biting my lips a lot of the time and I saw my face muscles shifting to the left side. Each day I woke up, I prayed to God and hoped that I would be better”

Narrating what happened, the actress who is well known for playing mother roles, said she had returned home on Thursday April 18, 2013 with no sign of sickness and at dawn when she decided to visit the washroom she found out she could not move half of her body.

According to her she could neither raise her right hand nor right leg because the right side of her body was completely numb. “I called a doctor friend who took me to the Korle-Bu teaching hospital”, she said.

She went on to say that her family, church members and friends who were surprised to have heard the news broke into tears when they visited her at the hospital.

“Some of my family members and friends thought I was going to die. Although they prayed for me to get better, I knew I wasn’t going to die because of the God I serve. As we talk now, I am 98 percent fit and will hit the screens soon” she said with a dimpled smile.

Currently working with the National Council of Persons with Disability and the Ghana Organization of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, the actress who is known for movies such as Suzie, Sergeant Abebrese, Me Ba, A Heart of Gold, Twin Lovers, Material Girls, Dons Of Sakawa, Who Owns The City, Chelsea, Turn Me On, Death After and Somewhere In Africa noted that the Ghana movie industry is not at its best yet.

Her main concern was how a section of our movie industry, especially the Akan speaking ones, go about their business. To her, the Akan speaking movies produce quantity movies instead of quality movies.

Asked whether she would featured in any Akan speaking ones should she be offered a good price, she explained that she would only do so if the storyline is good and she is assured that editing will also be on point.

“I usually don’t look at the money first before acting. I put myself in the character I play and make sure I execute it well to the understanding of my fans and Ghanaians as a whole.

“It is unfortunate I am sounding this critical but Akan movies can only be sold here in this country and nowhere else. Many of them don’t teach any moral lesson but rather end up confusing patrons”, she said.

ROSELYN IS MY DARLING – KOJO RANA

Ghanaian Musician, Kojo Rana, has called actress Roselyn Ngissah his “darling” in the wake of speculations that she is warming his bed.

The plump actress celebrated her birthday on Saturday February 8, and Kojo was all over the place expressing his feelings for her.

“It’s your birthday darling…We going to rock tonight,” Kojo posted with a sexy picture of the ‘4play’ actress on instagram on Saturday.

Later that evening, he also posted a picture of the two of them hanging out.

They pretty much looked like they were a couple in the picture. It was their second photo together after their first at the Ghana Movie Awards in December.

“Happy birthday Roselyn…You are beautiful inside out,” he added.

Kojo is yet to talk about his relationship with the actress after reports broke out that they were seeing each other.

However, Roselyn had earlier on denied they were in an intimate relationship. She told News-One they were just good friends.

GHANAIANS TALK TOO MUCH...

Celebrated gospel artiste, Obaapa Christy, formally called Christiana Love is not enthused about the talkative attitude of Ghanaians and has criticized her country men for dabbling in matters that do not concern them.

The songsters, who is in town from her foreign base to promote her VCD, a compilation of music videos, was speaking her mind when she was asked about the issue with regards to her giving birth out of wedlock – an issue that made headlines a few years ago during her tumultuous breakup with her estranged husband, Pastor Love.

“People are saying I gave birth, so what? Ghanaians talk too much, especially on matters that have no bearing on their lives. I am not concerned about what they say about me as I am focused on stuff that will uplift my music,” she muttered.

Obaapa also asserted that, Ghanaians and the media love to dwell much on negativity and she is all about positivity and is concerned with the progress of her career and work. “One should not pay attention to what people say about him/her. What is said about you will not make you,” she admonished.

On her marriage with Pastor Love, Christy was assertive in saying that they are no more together and she has moved on to new chapters in her life. “We are not together,” she said plainly.

On speculations that she has remarried, the “No Fears” singer shot such conjecture down by claiming that she is single. In a not-too-convincing mode, Christy claimed that she has remained single since her separation from her former husband.

The artiste, who has remained inactive in the music business for a while, is promoting the compilation of her music videos that is up for sale. She also assured Ghanaians and her loyal fans that she’s working in the studio and her next album will be ready soon.

In 2011, the then Christiana Love and her manager-husband, Pastor Love made headlines when they accused each other of infidelity, adultery and deceit during the many years of their marriage. According to Christy, her decision to divorce her pastor husband stemmed form the unceasing abuses he subjected her to – sometimes beating her up in the presence of his girlfriend.

Christiana said her husband impregnated another woman – a woman she accuses of being at the center of all her marital problems – in his church at the same time she was also expecting his child.

I’M NO CHASER; I ONLY APPRECIATE LADIES

Hiplife artiste, D. Cryme says that what he wishes to erase from the public about his image is the perception held among many that he is a skirt chaser.

“If there is anything I would want the public to spare me of, it is the perception that many people hold that D. Cryme is a womanizer. Sometimes, I wonder what evidence such accusers have to label me as such.

“I am never a womanizer and I don’t know what criteria such people use to measure me. It gets really interesting but the truth is that, I appreciate ladies a lot because they are God’s most expensive creation and they need to be adored so I only play my role by giving them all that love and attention” he told Showbiz last Monday.

The Kill Me Shy hitmaker said it is that lovely attitude he exhibits towards ladies that those who know him have wrongly misconstrued to be the antics of womanizing.

“Let me tell you, female fans are always the majority of the fans who will support you. They will give you all the encouragement when the going gets tougher and occasionally offer pieces of advice so it is only fair that you reciprocate these kind gestures. And this is where many people get it wrong.

“When they read messages from your facebook page, instagram and other social sites, they just interpret such harmless messages like ‘ I love you’ according to their mischievous understanding. But the question is, how many ladies can I propose to on these sites without the others getting to know?” he asked.

He however noted that, occasionally, he had female fans “who wanted to go overboard with the professional relationship” but always had his way of handling such ladies.

“In our part of the world, it is difficult for women to propose to men so when they muster the courage to do that, you must find a nice way of handling it so that you don’t hurt their feminine pride. Besides, these same ladies are the bulk of your fans so you act very well so not to hurt them and that is the dilemma male artistes like myself who are in the limelight find ourselves” he said.

D. Cryme, real name, Darlington Kwasi Agyekum denied a suggestion that he was no longer a force to reckon with on the music scene due to his inability to release hit songs in recent times.

“I had to take a break last year to pave way for the younger ones in my camp who were feverishly preparing to hit the music stage. Guess my critics do not know about this. It shouldn’t always be about D. Cryme but others who also have the talent to contribute to the industry. That was what I did last year, grooming new faces and so it is never true that I am out of the market and cannot stand the competition.

He said that to make his presence felt more this year, he has lined up both local and international concerts to pacify his fans for his long absence and would kickstart with a Valentine concert at Juaso this weekend and follow it up with shows during the Easter festivities.

“I want my fans to know that D.Cryme is back this year for good and ready to give them juicy stuff. My second album, The Arrival, which will be released in June this year will confirm my new status in the game” he said.

I'M A BETTER KISSER...SAYS ACTRESS KALSOUM SINARE'S HUSBAND

Ex Ghana defender Tony Baffoe insists he is not bothered by the profession of his actress wife; Kalsoum Sinare especially when she plays romantic scenes involving kissing and fondling.

The former Black Stars player has been married to his superstar wife for the past twenty years – in a relationship that has produced four kids.

Kalsoum Sinare is one of the leading actresses from Ghana and has starred in several movies. Her talent has been recognized with several awards and has been contracted by several Nigerian producers to play leading roles in their movies.

Kalsoum has had to play roles which make some people very uncomfortable. She has been caught up in romantic scenes including kissing and fondling which is seen as immoral to sections of the Ghanaian public especially with her marital status.

But her husband, a former Ghana international insists these roles are not a bother to him. “People ask me how do you feel when your wife kisses someone in a movie and I tell them I am a better kisser,” Baffoe said in an extensive interview with Happy FM.

“That is her passion and I support her to make the best out of her movies.” Baffoe remains one of the most respected figures in Ghana even after his playing career.

He is now into management where he currently is the General Secretary for the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana.

He also works on the FIFA task force against racism, on FIFA’s Football Committee and also works and a General Co-ordinator for CAF and FIFA.

GIFTY ANTI: “I WAS TOLD I’M BEAUTIFUL ON SET BUT NOT INTELLIGENT FOR THE SHOW”

Exactly Seventeen (17) years ago today, 13th February, 1997, I started my career as a TV presenter. I was at work by 5am, ready to do my work as a floor manager (that was what I was supposed to do) for the first ever Breakfast Show on TV in Ghana.

But, by sheer Grace, Favour and Mercy of God, Madam Beatrice Aidoo (May God continue to bless her) asked me to sit on the red couch with her and read the news papers while she reviewed with the late Harry Mozalas of GNA. The rest, they say, is still History in the making.

The first review in the news papers of me was “beautiful enough to decorate the set, but not intelligent enough for the programme”. I wept and that was when my dad gave me this advice, “the best form of revenge, is to succeed”.

He encouraged me and urged me on. Mr Edward Boateng of Global Media Alliance, who started the Breakfast show on GTV decided to give me a chance. Mr Wallace Bampoe Addo ( the famous Uncle Wallace) saw something in me and challenged me to do more.

Since 13th February, 1997, I have interviewed thousands of people. Some have become presidents (4 of them: Presidents John Kuffuor, John Mills, John Mahama and Obasanjo, well before they announced to the world that they wanted to be presidents and after they became presidents) and others who were presidents, including Hellen Johnson Sirleaf, the late Muamar Gaddafi etc, world leaders, ministers, political leaders, heads of institutions and ordinary and everyday people like myself etc.

I have travelled around this country and some parts of the world to do stories, human interest stories and cover world events. I have hosted many programmes and national events. I have hosted my own show, The Standpoint, for the past five and half years. I have spoken on many platforms including my favourite one, The Spring Board Road Show, three years consistently.

Today, 13th February 2014, I am speaking to about 2000 pupils on Sèx and Sèxuality at Kaneshie. I don’t need to tell you that it’s been a rough road, it’s been challenging and sometimes heart breaking. But I have continued to push on, stayed focus and passionate, all by the Grace of God. I have listened to advice and taken in criticisms, while holding my head high, while moving on.

The Question is: what are people saying about what you do? Do you love what you do? With God, nothing is impossible. You can achieve your dreams only if you believe, work hard and stay focused and trust God.. My journey continues… Will you continue yours?

On my 17th anniversary as a presenter, I hope my story inspires and motivates you to do what you love to do despite the challenges. Much love.

MAJID SAYS THAT GHANA HAS NO MOVIE INDUSTRY?

Award winning actor Majid Michel has left many movie enthusiasts wondering and confused as to what he really meant by ‘there is no Ghollywood, it’s only Nollywood’ comment on HITZ, a program on ONTV, an entertainment channel which operates under Sound City TV in Nigeria.

Reports coming in from Nigeria has it that the Ghanaian actor who is known for his lover boy roles declared on the said program that there is nothing like Ghollywood as some Ghanaians have claimed but there is only Nollywood in Africa and that it was Nigeria that came up with the whole idea and made it a reality for others to follow.

Now questions being raised by some sources from Nigeria are ‘Does the movie industry in Ghana has a name or is there any industry at all that Ghanaians can boast of?

Was Majid right in his comments on the show? So where, from which movie industry at all did he (Majid) started his movie career if his comments was well understood?

Despite the hundreds of attempts and efforts to reach the popular Ghanaian actor to explain his comments passed on HITZ on OnTV have proved to be more or less impossible since his phone line fails to go through.
