Ghanaian
actress, Yvonne Nelson is being hailed from certain quarters for not
only being a beautiful actress but for showing empathy to Ghanaians in
the face of these bad economic times that Ghana and Ghanaians are
experiencing now. Last Friday, November 1, she tweeted via her Twitter handle @Yvonnenelsongh to the official Twitter handle of the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama @JDMahama that as the first man on the land, he should ‘do something’ about the plight of Ghanaians, who are ‘suffering’. “Mr President. Ghanaians are suffering. The people of Ghana are SUFFERING. #fuel #electricity #water plsdosomething! Thank you,” she tweeted. The president has not responded to Miss Nelson's tweet/concern as a quick check on his timeline indicates that, his last tweet was on October 15 and was a congratulatory message to the gallant Black Stars team that humiliated the Pharaohs of Egypt by six goals to one in the first leg of the final qualifying matches to the World Cup in Brazil next year. Commenting on the actress’ tweet, actor Prince David Osei said, “It's good she tweeted that, which other ways, its bringing some kind of awareness and letting the president know that, people like us also care about how the country goes.” He, however, conceded that the whole world is going through that bad economic face. “... I think it's a global thing because the American government is even going down, so generally it's not about [President] Mahama but he just got into office and as he rightly said the other time on TV, when you start a car, you move to the first gear, you move to the second, it then accelerate further. So I think Mahama is in the right direction.” “Rome was not built in a day. I believe we all need to sacrifice and endure for some time and hopefully next year will be very great. It's not wrong that, she's shown concern that Ghanaians are suffering. Literally we are suffering with the frustration of fuel prices, electricity tariffs being increased by almost 80%, it’s not been easy for the layman but all the same, it's a global thing.” | ||
