Rita Marley, wife of Reggae legend, Bob
Marley has revealed that her husband played a midwifery role during the
birth of their first child, Ziggy Marley.
Speaking on the Taxi Driver
show on Hitz FM, on the occasion of Ziggy Marley’s 44th birthday which
occurred Wednesday, Rita Marley said her son was born at home in
Trenchtown, Jamaica instead of a hospital because they could not afford
to have the baby at a medical facility.
She told Blakk Rasta,
host of the show that, “Bob was there for the delivery because Ziggy was
a home delivery. We couldn’t afford to go to the hospital so we had the
baby at home [we were in] one bedroom in Trenchtown.”
“Bob did help with the delivery and he was there to bury the afterbirth and take care of things,” she added.
Rita
Marley revealed that, she chose the name David for their first child
but Bob Marley, who loved football aside music, chose "Ziggy" as he
wanted him to be a footballer.
Born David Nesta "Ziggy" Marley on
17 October 1968, Ziggy is currently a musician and the leader of the
Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers band.
She disclosed that she
is currently constructing a brand new ultra modern music studio, to
welcome Ziggy Marley to Ghana, after her multimillion dollar Studio 1,
located in Aburi, got burnt in 2010.
