Hip-life Grandpapa, Reggie Rockstone has disclosed that at the peak of his music career, he was a big fan rapper Obrafour.
According to him, contrary to perceptions, there is absolutely nothing strange about an artiste being a big fan of fellow artiste.
Credited for starting the hiplife genre in Ghana, Reggie Rockstone stated on microblogging site Twitter Wednesday that “Another thing I [have] noticed with a lot of [Ghanaian] [folks] is [they] find it strange based on [the] way [they] are that an artist can be a big fan of another!”
Reggie, who raps in Twi and English, pioneered the hip-life movement in 1994. In 2004, he won the Kora Award for the Best African Video.
He stressed that, “Even at [the] peak of my career it was not a secret how big a fan I was and still am bout obrafour! I [Would] introduce him on stages [back] [then]#frend”.
Obrafour, born Michael Elliot Kwabena Okyere Darko, is one of Ghana’s most gifted rappers. His album ‘Pae Mu Ka’ released in 1999 is considered by pundits as one of, if not, the best hiplife album(s) ever produced in the country.
“They think Bcoz one is in [the] same profession u [should] hate on [them]( this is [because] that is how [they[ reason) if I created hiplife [then] all are FAM (family)” The ‘Plan Ben’ hit singer added.
Reggie is credited for well-known albums such as ‘Makaa Maka’ (I Said It Because I Said It) released in 1997, ‘Me Na Me Kae’ (I Was The One Who Said It) released in 1999, ‘Me Ka’ (I Will Say) released in 2000, ‘Last Show’ released 2004, and ‘Reggiestration’ released in 2010.
He is currently a member of hiplife group, VVIP.
