GEORGE DARKO RECEIVES THE MOGO 2013 LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Nine of the best names in Ghanaian music came together on Friday night on one electrified stage to deliver the pure magic on the Music of Ghanaian Origin (MOGO) 2013 stage, organized by Citi 97.3 FM.

Kwabena Kwabena, Awurama Badu, Kwaisey Pee, Okyeame Kwame, K.K. Fosu, Tagoe Sisters, Samuel Owusu, Sherifa Gunu and the Ohia Be Ye Ya Band took turns to entertain the packed National Theatre on a night that authentic Music of Ghana Origin was relived, celebrated and projected.

The performances set the tone for the presentation of the MOGO Lifetime Achievement Award to George Darko, the legendary pioneer of Burger Highlife music.

George Darko, known traditionally as Nana Ampem Darko, is the Tufuhene of Akropong Akuapem. He pushed the highlife revolution and gave it an international appeal. His contribution ensured Burger Highlife became a worldwide trend. His exploits redefined Ghanaian music and his pedigree is unmatched by many in the industry.

George held the audience spell-bound after receiving his award from ace broadcaster Tommy Annan Forson and thanked Citi 97.3 FM for the innovation. He dedicated the award to God, his fans and his wife.

“This is wonderful. I want to thank all of you for this. To God I thank him for how far he has brought me and to my wife Charity, I say thank you,’ he said in a brief statement.

Citi 97.3 FM is giving music lovers some more reason to expect the best Christmas yet with the announcement of the upcoming ‘Decemba 2 Rememba (D2R)’ concert. The best of Ghana’s pop musicians will share one big stage on the 24th of the December at the Accra International Conference Center.
