Ace radio presenter and all-round entertainer Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey,
popularly known as Abeiku Santana of ‘Ekwanso Dwodwo’ on Okay 107.1 FM,
is in hot waters over his recent public declaration of support for
President John Mahama’s 2012 presidential ambition.
NEWS-ONE has information that Abeiku Santana’s declaration for the
National Democratic Congress (NDC’s) presidential candidate has not only
cost him an award at the recently organized Radio & Television
(RTP) Awards but also caused trouble for him at his station.
Though Abeiku Santana’s ‘Ekwanso Dwodwo’ had won the Evening Drive Time
show at the RTP Awards, information said an eleventh hour decision was
taken by the organizers not to present the award to him because it would
be lending credence to his drive time show which has been largely
tagged ‘political’ because of the political stance of the host.
Organizers of the event mentioned and awarded all winners on the night
except Abeiku Santana and NEWS-ONE’s checks have revealed that it was
purely because of the recent political stance taken by the ace
presenter.
The organizers however explained that they forgot to mention Abeiku as a
winner on the night and that they called him behind closed doors and
told him he won the award.
The organizers have since not found it necessary to inform the public that Abeiku’s show had won such an award.
Meanwhile, NEWS-ONE has also gathered that some key persons within the
Despite Group of Companies, owners of Okay FM, have expressed misgivings
about Abeiku Santana’s public declaration of support for John Mahama
and have even called for his dismissal.
Abeiku Santana recently announced that he had founded a group, Youth
For Mahama (YFM), to galvanize the support of Ghanaian youth for
President Mahama’s candidature.
Abeiku founded YFM with another journalist Selorm Amevor, formerly of the Public Agenda.
Ace sports journalist Yaw Ampofo Ankrah has also announced his support
for John Mahama and has indeed embarked on a national campaign for him.
Reports reaching NEWS-ONE also say controversial political satirist
A-Plus is no longer devoted to the New Patriotic Party and has switched
camps to the NDC.
