20 BIGGEST NEWS OF 2013!!!!

I have compiled 20 of some of the biggest news in 2013. They include topics that were mostly written about and some of the most read and searched articles in the year.

The Jim and Nadia romance

They are probably Africa’s biggest celebrity couple of the moment and although they are yet to come out officially, Jim Ikye and Nadia Buari gave us enough reasons to believe in their on and off romance. From their public appearances to their romantic getaways, and their subtle tweets at each other, I have a feeling we have even more to look out for, from the enigmatic couple, 2014.

All he wanted was her waist!

It started from ‘we are just friends’ and ended in a very public split which had Yvonne Nelson pouring out her feelings like a woman who had her heart broken for the first time. Hmm, we wondered if Iyanya promised her marriage but we found out that in spite of having a tattoo of the initials YN on his wrist, all Iyanya wanted was #tonga!

They’re dating… they’re not dating!

So after capturing Jackie Appiah and Bobby Olodo together at several public and private places, I decided to ask the question if they were dating and soon the whole of Africa had eyes on them. Well Jackie explained that she was just being a good host and nothing more. But there have even been rumours of marriage plans and reports suggest that Bobby had a lavish birthday party for Jackie recently. So are they dating or not?

Star crash!!!

The beautiful Nana Ama Mcbrown was involved in a near fatal car crash with her lover, Maxwell. But fortunately, she survived and seems to be enjoying life and love more than ever. Tema based rapper, Yaw Siki also survived a serious car crash which left him in intensive care for several weeks. Glad we didn’t lose either of them.

Here comes the bride!

Here’s another one that I got trending. Was it for fame? Was it a real? We will never know the truth but Harrina Alexander and her marriage certificate with John Dumelo got us speaking for a while and for some reason I have a feeling it is not over yet.

The ‘make out’!!!

Ghanaian Big Brother Africa rep Selly was labeled as being loose when she gave in to her hormones and got intimate with Nando in the BBA house. Well, she came out of it all saying she only made out with Nando but never got as far as having sex. Nando accused Selly of giving him and STD, which Selly threatened to sue him for. Anyway she seemed to have sailed through the mess quite well and is still together with her man, Praye Tiatia with hints of a wedding soon.

Finally we made it!!

Elikem Kumordzi made history for Ghana by becoming the first Ghanaian to reach the finals of the hit reality TV show, Big Brother Africa. He ultimately placed third and found himself a lover, Pokello from Zimbabwe. The Polikem romance continues to grow strong and the two have been shuttling between the two countries.

Honey, the kids are not mine!!

The story of how ex-footballer Odartey Lamptey found out his three kids with his wife were not his biological kids was certainly a shocker and one of the biggest news of the year. But how and why it happened, we are still waiting to find out.

Trouble after death

The death of Buk Bak member, Ronnie Coches was sudden but nothing could prepare us for the scandal that followed his death. Several women came out to claim he was married to them or that they had kids with him. He is expected to be buried middle of January. May his soul rest in peace! We also sadly lost legends like Seth Frimpong, Professor Awoonor and Dr Paa Bobo.

Playa no more!

4×4 member, Captain Planet finally made his long standing romance with Vodafone Ghana Chief Marketing Officer, Uche Ofodile public and proposed marriage to her on her birthday. He also mentioned Uche’s name in the 4×4 hit single, ‘Anadwo ye da’. Looks like an end to the playa days for one of Ghana’s known ladies’ man.

Shooting for history!!

In the 63-year history of Ghana participating in the Miss World pageant, we came so close to snatching the crown when Miss Ghana 2012, Caranzar Naa Okailey Shooter placed third in the global beauty pageant.

Weed or no weed?

Was it marijuana? Was it an electronic cigarette? The Chris Brown concert will not be forgotten in a rush as I started the conversation which got the world talking. Chris, who is not shy of smoking weed, has come out to say it wasn’t really marijuana so I believe it was just an act.

The shoplifting scandal

The Emelia Brobbey’s alleged shoplifting scandal in the UK was surely a story that kept coming up over and over again. She however denied the incident, explaining how the bracelet fell into a pram when she was shopping. Like they say, “you and I were not there!!!”

One Direction in the wrong direction

UK boy-band, One Direction during a visit to Ghana felt like Accra was a village in spite of checking into world class hotels. One of them tweeted about the slums and poverty in Ghana. According to Wanlov, Lydia Forson and Ama K. Abebrese, the boys should have focused on the positives and not the negatives and consequently slammed and lambasted them, catching the attention of the world media. And yes, I was first to report on the groups visit to Ghana.

The schlong

So wanlov showed his manhood to TV host, Delay during a live taping of the Delay Show and we thought we had seen it all. Well, apparently the schlong was not looking its best because of the air condition in the studio so Wanlov gave us another look when a picture of him and Mensa naked in the woods hit the internet. Hopefully that’s the last we see of his nutty bits.

The Big arrests

It was a year of ‘celebrity arrests’ as rapper, Deeba and actor Agya Koo got on the wrong side of the law. Agya Koo was arrested for VISA fraud by the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID). He later settled the people who he had allegedly duped and even promised to shoot a movie with the story. Deeba was arrested for defiling his 8-year old step daughter in the UK. Investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas was involved in the famous arrest.

The big slap

The brewing feud between Wanlov and Blakk Rasta on social media was taken to a new height when Blakk Rasta physically slapped Wanlov at the premises of Joy FM during an unavoidable encounter. Wanlov made a police statement on the incident and Blakk Rasta apologized for his actions saying he had been pushed to his limits as his mother was insulted in the brouhaha. Did they finally settle their differences? Only time will tell.

The Sark wahala

Sarkodie successfully launched his Sark clothing line and shop in 2013, and after trending on twitter due to the high price tag on his fashion items, Sarkodie was soon hit with copyright issues as the designer of the Sark logo, felt hard done by Sarkodie and his team. The designer has since filed a writ against Sarkodie and his business development team… we await the outcome.

The Big sweep

After years of ‘fighting’ Charter House, organizers of the Ghana Music Awards, R2bees topped the 2013 GMAs, winning awards including Artist of the Year and Song of the Year. There truly is time for everything.

Meet the Essiens

After years of staying quiet on their alleged romance, Akosua Puni and Micheal Essien finally announced their marriage in a subtle manner. Akosua Puni was addressed as Mrs Akosua Essien at Michael Essien’s grand charity event in Accra. Rumours have it that Akosua is expecting her third child with Essien.

PAWPAW WAS NOT RUDE TO ME - GHANAIAN ACTOR JOE SHORTINGO

Ghanaian Actor Joe Shortingo has defended claims that popular Nigerian actor Osita Iheme, with whom he recently made his debut, is impolite.

Some individuals who have come in contact with the man popularly called Pawpaw have confirmed he is a very rude actor.

However, the Ghanaian actor, who is also from the diminutive family, as Pawpaw told News-One that he did not see that aspect of Osita while working with him.

“He wasn't rude to me and I have no reason to say he is a rude person. For me, no, he is not rude. I was very fortunate and happy to act with him. As always as it is here, working with him was normal. He is my senior brother and I give him the due respect.

“To me particular, no, he is not rude. He is rude to some others, I think it’s because of their ridiculous act and words; he did that to prevent such things,” Joe Shortingo added.

Pawpaw was in Ghana few months ago to shoot the movie, ‘Boys Abre’. He starred alongside Joe Shortingo and it was the first time both of them were acting together.

A lot of expectation awaits the movie which would be released onto the Ghanaian market today December 30.

Ace Ghanaian broadcaster and philanthropist Gifty Anti has disclosed her resignation from Ghanaian media giant, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation after sixteen years of dedicated service and hard work was not influenced by money as news from certain quarters of the media suggest.

BISHOP CONDEMNS NUDITY IN GHANAIAN MOVIES

The General Overseer of Holyfire International Church, Bishop Reginald Ofori-Twumasi, has condemned the nudity portrayed by Ghanaian movie stars and celebrities.

He said the negative phenomenon in the country’s movie industry where movie stars and celebrities posed nude in movies must stop.

The General Overseer described the practice as ungodly since it did not glorify God and cautioned young ladies to avoid posing nude because of monetary benefits.

Bishop Ofori-Twumasi gave the advice in a sermon at the Church’s Annual Camp Meeting in Takoradi on Sunday under the theme: “Jesus Christ, the Truth that Turns Tragedies to Triumphs.”

He observed that Ghana’s movie industry had blindly copied that of the western world, which portrayed movie stars and celebrities in nudity.

He said those movies had not profited them but rather resulted in divorces and wrecked homes; and therefore cautioned Ghanaian movie producers to stop authorizing such movies in the country in view of their negative social implications on the youth.

“Some producers come with juicy movie contract worth $10,000.00 for you to pose naked because it will fetch them money, but such things sadden the Holy Spirit because your body does not belong to you, it is the temple of God, therefore you must use it profitably to please God.” he noted.

The man of God entreated Christians to lead morally upright lives worthy of emulation so as to win more souls for Jesus Christ.

SHATTA WALE APOLOGIZES TO CHARTERHOUSE

Outspoken and controversial Ghanaian dancehall artiste Bandana (Shatta Wale) has taken back all the unprintable words he used against foremost event management company Charterhouse in a public display of remorse.

Shatta Wale took a bold step to apologize at event organizers; Charter House during his performance at Ghana Rocks 2013 concert which took place on Friday December 27 at the Accra International Conference Centre.

After performing a number of his hit songs Shatta Wale surprisingly dropped the ‘diss’ song he recorded for Charterhouse after the 2013 VGMAs and performed the first 30 seconds of the song after which he asked his DJ to stop the music.

He then called George Quaye aka Aboagye of GH One Entertainment Television and Charterhouse to come on stage.

“In this industry we love ourselves and we love Ghana. I really want to apologize to Charterhouse because I never knew they love me so much. I want you to talk to Charterhouse for me that am sorry”, Shatta Wale told George Quaye.

For those who are of the opinion that Shatta Wale chose to apologize to Charterhouse at this time because he wants to win awards at the 2014 VGMAs this is what he had say “It is not that I want the awards but I feel that life has to continue. I love you people”.

Even though George Quaye looked surprised on stage he accepted Shatta Wale’s apology on behalf of Charterhouse. “It is a big surprise and it is one of the most matured things I have seen this gentleman do. Ladies and gentlemen two fingers in the air for Shatta Wale we accept your apology”, George responded.

His long overdue apology to Charterhouse, sparked mixed reactions from the media and stakeholders in the entertainment industry with some alleging that the move was an orchestration between him and Charterhouse, whiles others still believe it is deliberate attempt to win public sympathy for upcoming VGMAs.

2013 GHANA MOVIE AWARDS WINNERS

The 2013 Ghana Movie Awards held at the Accra International Conference Centre on Monday was full of drama, which appeared scripted to ‘unite’ perceived factions in the Ghana Movie industry.

From Leila Djansi and Shirley Frimpong-Manso sharing the nod for Best Director award which was presented by Akorfa Ejeani Asiedu (who has been involved in a very public split with Leila) to Sandra Ankobiah presenting the award for Favorite Actress to her former BFF, Yvonne Nelson, it was clear that the organizers wanted to make a statement.
