FIPAG IS KILLING THE MOVIE INDUSTRY IN A SLOW POISONOUS WAY

Though the film producers association has suggested to Agya Koo to call off his upcoming press conference scheduled for Friday 10th October, Agya Koo’s communication director, Mr. Isaac Rockson, confirmed on Entertainment Ghana aired on Neat FM 100.9 that the press conference will still come on at the Cultural Center in Kumasi.

In an interview with the host of the program, Kwesi Aboagye, Mr. Isaac Rockson stated that, the press conference is intended at showcasing to the public and Agya Koo’s fans that Agya Koo is still active in the film industry, and also, to give a clean platform to Agya Koo and anyone who think Agya Koo has wronged him or her.

“Anyone who has problem with Agya Koo or has any issue against Agya Koo is invited to the press conference to come and reveal it under the press conference so that if there's any amendment or if there is a need for Agya Koo to apologize, he will be asked to do so” Rockson said.

He mentioned that, the platform will also give opportunity to the management team to speak about Agya Koo’s new upcoming movies and the strategies they will deploy in selling those movies.

As to why they are going to reveal the new strategies in selling those movies, he said there are some mafia strategies going on in the Ghanaian movie industry.

“Film marketers will take your movies and will hide it somewhere; later they will return the movies to you that the movie did not sale. We have found a new solution to all that. We will reveal all the strategies at the press conference especially how Agya Koo’s movies will be sold, and how the public can get his movies to buy” Rockson stated.

Rockson continued that “a new way of marketing Agya Koo’s movies in a way that the movie will not pass through Kantamanto, Opera, Kejetia so the film makers don't hijack it'.

When the host (Kwesi Aboagye)asked him who the mafias are, Rockson disclosed: "FIPAG members have lot of strategies they use in their mafia moves. The marketers association also has some strategies and mafia moves that's killing the industry. Instead of the industry moving forward it’s dying slowly.”

He lamented that if care is not taken, the film industry will not have feet to stand on in the next 3 years - it will collapse because some mafias are in the film industry and they are killing the industry in a slow poisonous way.

Rockson said they want the industry to stand, “there are so many secrets in the industry which is too diabolical, which is too evil” he ended.

ACTRESS AKORFA SHAVES HAIR TO THE SKULL (PHOTO)

A new photograph of popular Ghanaian actress, Akorfa Ejeani Asiedu, in which she had completely shaved her hair to skull, is generating some excitement on media platforms.

The hairless photo popped up not long ago after the premiere of her latest movie, A Letter From Adam, but there are doubts about when it was taken, why Akorfa shaved her hair and why it is now in the public domain.

The seasoned actress was last seen in public when she attended the new movie’s premiere on September 19 at the Silverbird Cinemas in Accra. She had her hair on at that event.

It is yet to be confirmed if she decided to shave it after the premiering event or she had done that several years ago and had now found it right to release the snapshot of it.

Meanwhile, sources told News-One that the ‘I Sing Of A Well’ actress and her household were mourning. She lost her sister weeks ago, ahead of the new movie’s premiere, and had been wearing black clothes since then.

Akorfa remains one of Ghana’s veteran actresses who are still relevant in Africa’s movie industry. She is currently respected across the continent and beyond.

LOSS OF PREGNANCIES COST INI EDO’S MARRIAGE?

Just days after Nollywood actress Ini Edo's reported departure from her 5-year old marriage to Philip Ehiagwina, rumours indicate her loss of three pregnancies may have played a role.

The actress recently confirmed the end of her marriage on Wednesday, October 2, 2014 in a series of tweets where she said she initiated divorce proceedings to end the marriage even though she never cheated on her husband.

Her tweets also raised the question of her husband cheating on her, especially since it is on record that her former husband, Philip had walked out of his first marriage to his first wife, Ruth before marrying the actress.

That union lasted for 5 years (2002 – 2007) but sources close to Ini say her marriage to Philip was doomed to fail from the very start.

Apart from the fact that Philip’s ex-wife, Ruth never approved of the wedding, Ini Edo also had to contend with negative media reports about her wedding to Philip. Another factor that may have contributed to the crash of the marriage is the fact that the actress has not been able to put to bed 6 years after marriage.

They got married in 2008 and in 2012, news broke of Ini Edo’s first pregnancy which was short-lived; as she lost the pregnancy shortly afterwards.

It seems the "I’ll Take My Chances" actress suffered miscarriages in the duration of her marriage as she was reported to have lost another baby in 2013, followed by another in June 2014.

"I WON’T ENDORSE ANY ARTISTE THAT ATTACKS THE ENTIRE MEDIA"

Dancer, Musician and producer, Slim Busterr has revealed in an exclusive interview with Dopecelebs.com that he won’t endorse any artist who attacks the entire media.

"I won’t endorse any artist that attacks the entire media, but will support or agree with anyone that deals maturely with any individual media practitioner," he said.

According to the musician who is currently working on his 11th record, he understands sometimes the media’s approach on some matters relating to musicians and players in the industry are very wrong and goes to affect the lives of these individuals.

But the musicians responds to the media body for it’s wrong approach on issues relating to them can also be very dangerous if not approached well, "Just like every home, there are bad nuts there and the media is no exception. I think we need to deal with individual media persons than taking the whole media body on."

"Personally, I have problems with some media practitioners in the country whom I will discipline soon but I don’t think it will be best for me to attack everybody practicing journalism in the country. Some of them are doing very well, putting the countries name on the map just as some of us musicians," he added.

When asked about who in the media he has problems with, the singer said he won’t mention names for now but the public will get to know of them pretty soon but revealed they are two radio guys.

How are you going to deal with them? Beat them?, "hahaha no I don’t think so, but seriously I’m not that type that fights but I think I will make them know who they are and who to learn from if they don’t know their jobs as media men," he indicated.

"I am not fighting the media, but my question is, is it right or professional for a journalist or media practitioner to just make stories on air without making any follow up on the story?" he asked.

RTP FAILS TO SHINE AGAIN

After receiving loads of bashing last year, one would have expected that Big Events, organizers of the Radio and Television Personality (RTP) awards would do their homework well to present a better event this year but that did not happen.

Just like previous editions of the awards, the event held at the Accra International Conference Centre last Saturday was characterized by a late start and many technical challenges.

The event commenced at 9.30pm, almost three hours behind schedule and dragged on till the early hours of the following morning. Many members of the audience were visibly tired and left in droves before the show ended around 2.45 am.

At various times during the event, videos and audios file supposed to announce the nominees in their various categories failed to play.

At other times, the files played were meant for different categories that resulted in some amount of confusion. There were also long stretches of time where the audience was left wondering what was happening behind the scenes because there was no activity on stage.

The fact that some personalities and institutions who won awards on the night failed to turn up to receive their statuettes and didn’t bother sending representatives to do so on their behalf took a lot from the show.

Celebrated radio personality, Kwame Sefa Kaye, was crowned the Radio Personality of the Year for the fourth consecutive time. He was not around to receive his award.

Kaye beat other notable personalities like Gifty Anti of GTV, Kwabena Yeboah of GTV, Bola Ray of Joy FM/Starr FM, Nana Aba Anamoah of TV3 and Mother Diana (Tele Nurse) on Crystal TV.

Also, Kaye’s morning talk show, Kokrokoo, won the award for Radio Programme of the Year for the fourth consecutive time.

Viasat 1 emerged the winners in the most categories as they swept home six awards: TV Male Entertainment Show Host of the Year, TV Female Entertainment Show Host of the Year, TV Sports Programme of the Year, TV Reality Show of the Year, Local TV Series of the Year and TV Male Newscaster of the Year.

The Female Presenter of the Year award went to Gifty Anti and the award for Best Female Radio Personality of the Year went to Jessica Opare Saforo of Citi FM.

TV3’s Nana Aba Anamoah took home the award for TV Morning Show Host of the Year while Agyemang Prempeh of Rainbow Radio won the Radio Entertainment Show Host of the Year. Adom FM’s Adom Kasiebo Is Tasty won the Radio News Programme Of The Year.

At the event, three personalities received citations and were inducted into the RTP Hall of Fame for their immense contribution to the development of the country through their work in radio and television industry.

They were comedian and host of the KSM Show, Kwaku Sintim-Misa, actress, Grace Omaboe, and the late BBC Focus On Arica presenter, Komla Afeke Dumor, who was awarded posthumously.

Artistes who performed on the night included Bisa Kdei, Akoo Nana, Obrafuor, Bradez, Supt. Kofi Sarpong, Gallaxy and comedian, Hogan.

VAN VICKER THREATENS LEGAL ACTION OVER FAKE EBOLA STORY

Ghanaian actor; Van Vicker has described as “rubbish”, reports that he has been diagnosed with the deadly Ebola Virus. He is threatening to take legal action against the publishers, as well as those who fueled the false story.

News went viral Tuesday, that the award-winning actor was infected with Ebola in Liberia where he was shooting the movie, ‘Bendu Sudan.’ The story also added that Ghana’s Foreign Ministry had barred the actor from returning to Ghana.

Speaking in an interview with Myjoyonline.com, Van Vicker, who stated he is currently in Ghana, said he heard the story around 8am Tuesday.

He explained his first reaction was “what rubbish is that?

"I didn’t take it seriously myself. I just thought it was one of those Facebook things like what they did to me, I think about a year ago, when they said I was going to church in Nigeria and I had an accident and was bleeding to death.”

“So I thought it was a Facebook thing only to realize that it was a story on the website and other websites or bloggers picked it up and the whole thing just went out of proportion.

“Then it dawned on me how serious this story is getting and how it could affect my career and family,” the actor added.

Van Vicker stressed that publishers of the story did not contact him, and he has also not also granted any interview “to anyone with regards to Ebola, Liberia or my ‘Bendu Sudan’ shoot.”

According to him, his wife and kids were visibly traumatized by the story: “My wife was getting hysterical because she was getting calls, I was getting phone calls. It was just very disturbing.”

Considering the effects the story could have on his family, especially his kids, “Last night we had to sit our kids down and speak to them about the story and explain to them that it is not true...Just in case they get to school and people want to tease them or stay away from them because if [their] father is infected possibly the kids could also be infected.”

Van Vicker disclosed that he has begun the process the take legal action against publishers of the story.

“I got off the line with my lawyer and she is looking at the possibility of suing the persons behind it. We are just trying to get the source. For starters, we know where the story broke out.”

The legal action he hopes will deter others from publishing false stories about him.

“Yes we are in discussions with the intent to sue them; just to send a signal to all those who have been writing such bogus stories with no proof or whatsoever, that they should put a stop to it because this unprofessional journalism is undue,” he stressed. The legal process, the actor added, will commence in a day or two.

Van Vicker said he had to abandon an initial plan to shoot part of his movie in Liberia, in August after the Ebola menace was exacerbated.

VAN VICKER: I HAVEN'T CONTRACTED EBOLA

Charming Ghanaian actor, Van Vicker has discredited reports that he has been diagnosed with the deadly Ebola Virus Disease.

An entertainment online platform reported Tuesday that the actor contracted the virus while he was out in Monrovia, Liberia's capital shooting the sequel to the movie ‘Bendu Sudan’.

Other reports on social media also suggested that Vicker has been quarantined and denied access back to Ghana.

But speaking on the Starr Drive, the 'Hands of Time' actor said the reports are disheartening.

“It's annoying. I checked the website and just couldn’t believe my eyes. Why would someone just sit somewhere and just write what they want. Is there nobody that regulates the activities of these websites?” he asked. “I don’t get the story. It’s just not right!”

According to him, he cancelled the Liberia trip last month when he heard the news of the outbreak.

“I read the story, my intention was to go to Liberia to shoot...but I didn’t go”

Vicker who is also of Liberian lineage revealed on the show that he is working with the UN response team based in Ghana to help the situation in his home country.

“My heart does go out to all Liberians and I want them to know I have not abandoned them. I am doing all I can to help them in this time of crisis.”

More than 3,400 people have died in the current Ebola outbreak in West Africa mostly.

In Liberia, the death toll is at least 1,100.

BLACK RASTA LACKS CREDIBILITY - DACOSTA

Reggae artist and Hitz FM presenter Black Rasta seems to have incurred the wrath of many and will soon suffer a heavy backlash after utterance that Ghanaians should not hail highlife music since his experience over the past few months outside Ghana has proven that the genre brings nothing better to Ghana.

Among the people who seem worried about the utterance is the interim board chairman of GHAMRO, Nana Aboagye Dacosta.

The ace musician who was already in a heated mode due to an early discussion on GHAMRO issues in a passing a comment on the Angel Entertainment Show with Charles Asare over the weekend described Black Rasta’s utterance as totally uncalled for and compared it to the saying of a lunatic.

“Some people talk like lunatics…tell it back to him”

“I wish he could lay bare proof of how accepted his records are……What better rhythm has he (Black Rasta) played?”

According to the highlife music icon, it was worrying people could just make any damning comments about what we have already.

GHANAIAN GAY MOVIE PRODUCERS EXPOSED?

Following ‘sex for movie roles’ allegation by Kumawood actor Big Akwes, beautiful Ghanaian actress Vicky Zugah has revealed that the Ghanaian movie industry is flooded with gay producers who also demand sex from her colleague actors.

The actress who disclosed that over 10 movie directors/producers demanded sex from her before giving her a role in a movie on Radio Univers said actresses are not the only persons susceptible to physical or emotional attack in the movie industry but the gents as well.

According to her “we have female producers and gay movie producers in Ghana” who demand for sex from actors before assigning them movie roles.

She further stated that female movie producers demand for sex from actors after finding them attractive at auditions.

“So if the female movie producer wants her “cut” of share of the cake after she has auditioned you and finds you attractive, she will call and negotiate with you” she told Abrantepa, host of the show.

Vicky added that “It is not just the female producers” who demand for sex from actors but “it’s all over”.

To her, the ‘sex for role’ dilemma cannot be eradicated from the movie industry because it happens in any business field.

“There is very little or nothing we can do about it because it happens everywhere even in the cooperate world bosses sleep with their workers every day to give them jobs”

“As a woman, what I will say is that the ladies and women out there, if you want to act lets be patient. You will surely make it if you have the talent. If you are not determined but you think because you have a pretty face so you can go and open your thighs for someone to enter for a movie role, then you are wrong”.

Vicky Zugah celebrates her birthday on Saturday, October 11 at the Borstal Institute for juveniles in Accra, a correction centre for people who are under 18 years old and have been convicted of criminal or civil offenses.

CHARTER HOUSE SUES SHATTA WALE FOR GHS10M OVER DEFAMATORY VIDEOS

The nation’s number one event production company Charterhouse have brought a lawsuit for defamation against Ghanaian dancehall artiste and reigning Artiste of the Year at the same company’s annually organised Ghana Music Awards Charles, Nii Armah Mensah Jnr aka Shatta Wale.

The Plaintiffs are seeking the court, inter alia, to award damages of ten million Ghana cedis against the Defendant for what they consider as defamatory statements made against them in some videos he recorded and uploaded to Facebook.

Documents sighted by this website show that the suit numbered APB/2015 and dated 2nd October 2014, which also has as plaintiff the CEO of the company Mr. Iyiola Ayoade, was filed at the Fast Track Division of the High Court in Accra in relation to four separate videos the musician uploaded on social media which they consider as defamatory.

The two plaintiffs, that is Charterhouse and Mr. Ayoade, pray the court to declare that the Dancehall King singer had defamed them with the four separate videos he recorded and uploaded to his Facebook page. According to the writ, two each of the said videos were respectively uploaded on 23rd and 24th September 2014 respectively.

Another relief the Plaintiffs are asking from the court is to order the Defendant to render “an unqualified apology and retraction of each of the four separate videos with the approval by the Plaintiffs prior to the recording and uploading” to his Facebook page and to remain on his page for one month within a week of the judgment.

The third relief sought by the Plaintiffs is for Shatta Wale to send the four videos in which he renders apologies to the Plaintiffs to “all media houses and online publications that have aired the defamatory videos complained of and ensure that same and/or published at his own expense” within a week of the judgment.

The Plaintiffs again seek the court for an “order of perpetual injunction restraining the Defendant, his agents, hirelings, manager(s), privies and assigns or any person through him and howsoever described from making and/or repeating the defamatory statements or similar statements in the nature of the ones complained in the video recordings.”

Pending the hearing of the case, as requested by lawyer for the Plaintiffs Egbert Faibille Jnr, on 20th October 2014, the Plaintiffs are praying the court to order an interlocutory injunction on the Defendants from uploading on Facebook or any other social media platform the four videos aforementioned and/or any other similar videos.

"USE MUSIC AS A TOOL"

Ghanaian music legend, Kojo Antwi, has tasked young and upcoming musicians to see music as a tool rather than a product.

According to the music maestro, a lot of young people venture into music because of the money and fame it brings, which in turn results in poor output.

“I hear a lot of music right now and the only thing I hear, lyric wise, shake your booty, make your body and baby you are that and this and all that. To us Africans, music means more to us than these things,” he told NEWS-ONE.

The ‘Densu’ hitmaker explained that for a country, which is being confronted with Ebola and Cholera, it is only wise that music is used to uplift people.

“We are confronted with Ebola; so much filth here in Accra and we are dying because of Cholera; so we cannot sing about shaking your booty all the time. We must use music as a tool to uplift people. The young ones need to see music as a tool and not a product,” he said.

Kojo Antwi, who was unveiled as the recipient of the 2014 edition of the annual Legends & Legacy Ball, stated that he never set out to be a legend but to churn out great music that will last for eternity.

“If you sow the right seed then, you will rip the right fruit, but if you go cashing money from the beginning, a lot of things will elude you. I never set out there to become a legend. I just came out to do great music, music that my grandson will listen to in 10yrs time and say oh granddad you did very well on that song,” he added.

Kojo Antwi has over the years produced some timeless hit songs which have won him various awards both internationally and locally.

ANAS TO FIND CASTRO ALIVE OR DEAD?

Report reaching Razz newspaper has it that award-wining investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, is likely to be involved in the attempt to find missing musician, Castro and Janet Bandu.

Speaking to a source at The National Security on how far their outfit has involved itself in the quest to find Castro, the source said Anas is one person they have in their plans to bring on board as a helping hand to find Castro, whether dead or alive.

The source claimed; “Anas is very smart in such matters, so we have plans of bringing him on board to help with the investigations. I hear some big men have started some talks, but I won’t be able to give you the final results because the confirmation has not yet been reached.”

The source also disclosed that Castro’s case has already caught national interest, which is why he is making such revelation to the paper to assure the public that the security service is not resting on finding reasonable answers to the Janet-Castro saga.

Razz newspaper made attempts to get in touch with Anas Aremeyaw Anas to confirm or deny his said involvement in helping find Castro and Janet and the circumstances that led to their disappearance but the attempts yielded no positive results.

Last year, Anas, whose investigative works know no boundaries, was reported to have disguised himself into a female to cause the arrest of Hiplife musician, Deeba who was alleged to have defiled his 8 years old step daughter (of his fiancée) in the UK.

Anas, who also got infuriated by actor, John Dumelo-over a particular lady who claimed John owed her some money; threatened to release 65 different tapes of conversations she had with John.

After issuing a two-week ultimatum to John, Anas was reported to have rescinded his decision to release the tapes without any tangible reason.

A multimedia journalist who specializes in print media and documentary, Anas focuses on issues of human rights and anti-corruption in Ghana and sub-Saharan Africa.

He is famous for utilizing his anonymity as a tool in his investigations with very few people having seen his face.
