MEMORIES OF THE GOOD OLD DAYS REKINDLED AT ‘BACK IN THE DAY’ CONCERT

Hiplife bigwigs, Obrafour and Reggie Rockstone proved they were the undisputed authorities in the genre at the second edition of the Back In the Day concert held last Friday at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).

Their coming onto the stage was splendid! The auditorium was dark for about three minutes and people wondered what was going to happen.

Just as the lights came back on, the audience saw the two men dressed in all- white with crowns on their heads, seated on what looked like thrones.

With applause from the audience, the two wasted no time in delivering what was expected of them. Obrafour performed tunes like, Yaanom, Twe Wo Ho, Heavy, Asem Sebe, Who Born You By Mistake, and Oye Ohene (remix).

Rockstone also thrilled everyone around with Plan Ben, Keep Your Eyes On The Road, Different You, Different Me and Ya Bounce Wo Visa.

Reggie and Obrafour invited Raquel and Efya on stage who backed them with their silky voices.

For the one hour that both artistes were on stage, the audience danced and sang along with them.

Organised by Empire Entertainment, the show started around 10.00pm with T-Blaze. He sang songs like Feeling No Ye Deep, Secretary and Wo Sisi Yewo Ya.

He climaxed his performance by asking for a minute’s silence in honour of the late Ronnie Coaches of Buk Bak who died last month.
Hiplife duo, TH4Kwages came on after T- Blaze. They spent about 10 minutes on stage and were able to move the audience with songs like Nana Esi and Meye Aware.

As Nii Ayi Tagoe of Joy FM, emcee and deejay on the night played good old hiphop, R & B and hiplife stuff from the 1990s, a group called Short Clan appeared from nowhere onto the stage and did their own thing. Though their performance looked good, the audience did not respond much to them.

After a short break and during which time the audience were shown still pictures of celebrities that had passed on, the headline act Naughty By Nature finally arrived on stage at about 1:30 am .

Regarded as one of the world's best hiphop groups of all time, Naughty by Nature did not disappoint the fans.

Performing songs like O.P.P., Uptown', Dirt, Craziest, Everything, Jamboree, Feels Good, and Feel Me Flow for an hour, the group was impressive on the night

Though, the show had a nice stage setting and good quality sound, there were a lot of empty seats.

JULIET IBRAHIM: “I RECEIVE MORE FAVOURS BECAUSE I'M HALF CASTE”

Ghollywood sensation Juliet Ibrahim recently had a quick chat with Saturday Punch. She revealed among many other things that being “half-caste” is truly a blessing.

Read Excerpts from the interview;
On Growing Up: “I am a half-caste and as a child, there was no colour difference – you are just happy with where you are and who you are with. Then, Ghanaians accepted people for who they are. However, I am being told now that I am receiving more favours because of my fair complexion. It seems people now have issues with coloured people”.

On the real Juliet Ibrahim: “I am just a very simple person. I am hardworking, a businesswoman and a mother of a three-year-old son. I do charity work too. I released two of my singles this year.”

On her relationship: “I am married to a Ghanaian, who is a quarter-caste. His mother is half Lebanese and half Ghanaian. We met several years ago when he was living in the United States of America. I was attracted to his personality and intelligence. We kept in touch and got married three years ago when he relocated to Ghana.”

On her style: “I used to wear anything and walk around with my flip flops. Now, I am conscious of the fact that style matters and anything I do as a celebrity is a part of me. I always have to look my best always.

Style, for me, is wearing what I am comfortable in. I try my best to always play with my shape and make sure my figure comes out. I can try any kind of dress. I am very dramatic with my dressing.”

‘I WON’T DISAPPOINT GHANA’ - YVONNE OKORO

Actress Yvonne Okoro has promised not to disappoint Ghanaians at the 2014 edition of the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Award (AMVCAs).

Her movie, 'Contract' has picked multiple nominations for the 2014 AMVCAs.

‘Contract’, directed by Shirley Frimpong Manso, picked nine nominations - beating other giant Ghanaian movies.

People are wondering if this will not be a repetition of what happened earlier in the year when the same movie picked six nominations at the Africa Movie Academy Award (AMAA) but could not win a single award at the main event.

However, Yvonne is optimistic that her movie would bag some awards this time round: “Well, in every competition there’s a victor, so it would be great if I win but in the end being nominated is a great achievement. It’s my first movie and every time I submit to a film festival it is received well. Do I have hope? (laugh) of course, because what’s life without hope?” she told News-One at the AMVCs nominees’ party which coincided with Africa Magic’s 10th anniversary celebration at Land Mark Village Center Victoria Island, Lagos.

The AMVCs is organizing by multichoice Africa to acknowledge and celebrate the contribution made by Pan Africa filmmakers. The party was hosted by Vimbai Mutinhiri, Lawrence Maleka and Big Brother Africa’s IK Osakioduwa. Guests at the party included Majid Michel, Uche Jombo, OC Ukeje, Linda Edjiofo, Sandra Ankobiah, Joselyn Dumas, Leonora Okine and other personalities.

There were drama displays, comedy and music performances by artists including Efya.

Yvonne got nominated for Best Actress in a comedy, while ‘Contract’ lead actor Hlomia Dandala received two nominations for Best Actor in a Comedy and Best Actor in a Drama. The rest of the nominations are Best Video Editor, Best Art Director, Best Writer (Drama), Best Movie Director, Best Movie 2013 and Best Movie (Comedy). Other Ghanaian nominees include Frank Rajah Arase, Chris Attoh, Ken Attoh, Shirley Frimpong-Manso, Pascal Amanfo, Jackie Appiah and Majid Michel.

XCLUSIV FOTOS: ACTOR OMAR SHERIFF CAPTAN TIES THE KNOT!

Information and pictures available to Peacefmonline.com indicates that Ghanaian Actor, Omar Sheriff Captan appears to have tied the knot in a very low key wedding ceremony at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra over the weekend.

Actor Omar’s marriage over the weekend happened on the blind side of the media. However Peacefmonline.com has managed to bring to our readers few images from the exclusive marriage ceremony.

The ceremony attendance was strictly by invitation and according sources at the ceremony, handful of Omar’s friends in the showbiz industry attended the ceremony.

Among them were Van Vicker who was a best man, KOD and Yvonne Nelson, who tweeted photos of the weeding.

The former ‘Tinsel’ star’s marriage comes on the heels of reports that he was launching a TV realty show called, “Ten To Bee” to help curb the growing trends of divorce cases among Ghanaian married couples.

Peacefmonline.com is yet to have more information about the actor’s new wife; we are however reliably informed that she is a well-established woman based in Holland.

Below is the full statement
Big Events Company, the organizers and initiators of the Radio and Television Personality Awards (RTP) wishes to apologize to all award winners, sponsors, performers, the media and the paying public for shortcomings identified at the year’s RTP Awards ceremony at the Accra International Conference Centre last Thursday.

Big Events admits that this year’s awards ceremony fell short of its own high quality standards. This year’s event faced so many challenges with production which eventually impacted on the performers’ ability to participate in the event. The last minute constrains and resource challenges were mainly production driven arising from a deal with a third party. All these impacted negatively on the event which has had a good reputation for the past two years.

As a Ghanaian company that seeks to celebrate media excellence, we have no doubt that the event fell short of our standards and we wish to apologize sincerely for the disappointment.

As the leader of the team, I take full responsibility for the shortcomings and wish to reinstate our commitment to the Awards. We deeply regret the situation and sincerely apologize for the inconveniences.

Big Events hopes to continue its productive relations with the media and other stakeholders and to enjoy their support and understanding of the general public. The company will ensure that its numerous stakeholders, including the award winners, sponsors, invited guests, performing artistes all over the country will be more than satisfied with the organization of future events.

All our patrons who have been part of the past two events know the quality of the work we have done within this short period of two years and we will do our best to restore the event to its rightful place in the calendar of the media.
