I AM NOT A ‘BUSH’ GIRL, SAYS ‘NEW’ AFIA SCHWARZENEGGER

She has only been on TV for just five weeks but Helen Korkor Asante who currently plays Afia Schwarzenegger in the TV series Afia Schwarzenegger is already paying the price for being in the limelight. Korkor is the third person to play the character since the series debuted on TV a few years ago.

In as much as she is being commended for her new role, Korkor is equally receiving criticisms for being a ‘bush’ girl, not good looking enough for TV and that she can never fill the shoes of Valentina Agyeiwaa of Happy FM who played the first Afia Schwarzeneggar and Nana Hemaa of Adom FM who took over from her.

But Korkor, who has never acted before taking up the Afia Schwarzenegger role is unfazed by the bashings she is receiving. She told Showbiz last Tuesday that she is beautiful and polished and the best among the three of them.
“I am the best thing that ever happened to Afia Schwarzenegger. I play the character so well and I can confidently say that no one can do it better than I do.

“The others did their best but I stand tall. Yes, I am blowing my own horn because I believe I am the best. The evidence is clear. Many people have showered me with praise for playing the role so well. The comments I have received from the public and Excellencia Ghana Limited, producers of the show are enough evidence that I am the best so far.

According to her, the audition for the Afia Shwarzenegger role attracted over 200 people but she was selected. She said although she wasn’t sure she would be chosen, she knew she could easily play the role when given the chance.

Commenting on her looks, Korkor debunked views that she is not good looking. “Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. I am good looking. You see, a lot of make-up is used on my face for the role I play that is why I look that way on TV but in real life, I am not bad looking at all.

Korkor was also quick to say that she is not a bush girl as people perceive her to be. “I only portray the character of a bush girl on TV but I am not one. I don’t talk or behave like I do on air in real life. Anyone who knows me will tell you that I am the reserved type. When I am not on set, I am always minding my own business” she said.

Asked about her love life, Korkor said she was not ready to date now and that her new career is important to her at the moment.

“I am putting dating on hold for now because I want to focus on my career and improve myself. For now, I am a happy young girl who is living her dream and enjoying a little stardom. I just want Ghanaians to watch out for me” Korkor said.

Afia Schwarzenegger airs every Saturday at 8pm on Viasat 1 .

MERCY JOHNSON UNDER FIRE AS MARKETERS BANS HER FROM MOVIES

Should I say I was surprised immediately I saw this on Vanguard this morning or I was shocked.
I confirmed the news again from the popular entertainment blogger Linda Ikeji who gave another version of the news which I’m about to share right now.

According to Vanguard; some officials of movie marketers under the aegis of Film and Video Producers and Marketers Association of Nigeria, FVPMAN, plans to blacklist Mercy Johnson Okojie,, in what they call, “ Withdrawing of service from her.”

They also went further to state their reasons for the ban. They accused Mercy Johnson of leaving the set or not even showing up for video shoot after she must have been paid. In another accusation, they said MJ was always giving them difficult conditions before she can feature in any movie.

Now this other news from the famous blogger who seems to have more details about Mercy Johnson’s bad market:

She reported that Mercy Johnson is currently the highest paid actress in Nollywood. She charges between N1.8million to N2m to feature in a movie. The others, like Ini and Funke charge between N700k to N1.2million.

For this reason, the actress has been blacklisted by the Nollywood Movie Marketers Association. The ban will not take effect immediately as Mercy has already signed up to do quite a number of movies.

She returned on Thursday from a movie location, and will be on the set of another movie from tomorrow, Sunday. She will be traveling out of Nigeria sometime this month and when she returns, will be on another movie set…so she’s basically booked till the end of the year.

The idea now is not to ban her after all her current contracts end. So the ban won’t take effect until at least January 2014. This is not the first time the movie marketers association will be placing bans on actors . They did this a few years ago when quite a number of actors including RMD, Genevieve Nnaji, Ramsey Noah, Emeka Ike, and Jim Iyke were blacklisted.

What will now become of Mercy Johnson when the ban takes effect? To be a star is no joke o

KWAW KESE PUNCHES GOVERNMENT OVER GUINEA FOWL PROJECT IN NEW SINGLE

Kwaw Kese has just released a hot single featuring the legend, Obrafour.

Produced by Ball J., the song talks about corruption and other related issues.

‘Obunsam’ talks about the attitude where people claim glory and blame the devil for their evil deeds.

Kwaw Kese hit hard at the funds spent on the ‘GYEEDA Guinea Fowl’ project by saying, “memp3 nkwasia3m. 15 million wo Akonf3m, Sika no y3 di no nt3m, Ghanaman no ho aba as3m.”

The literal translation is: “I don’t want any foolishness. 15 million for guinea fowls, we spend money anyhow, and the Ghanaian is in trouble.”

With hard punch lines from Kwaw, a classic hook from Obrafour and an awesome instrumentation from Ball J, the song is set to rule Ghanaian airwaves for months to come.

KOJO ANTWI FOR LEGACY AND LEGACY BALL 2013 - ANNOUNCEMENT NOV. 7

Imajin Advertising, organisers of the annual Legacy and Legacy (LAL) Ball which honours outstanding Ghanaian musicians, says the artiste to be honoured this year will be unveiled on Thursday, November 7 at the Oak Plaza Hotel on the Spintex Road in Accra.

The LAL Ball series was started in 2011 with Daddy Lumba as the first honouree. Last year was the turn of Amakye Dede.

With regards that this year’s nominee is still unknown, a number of possible names have come up to keep the rumour mill spinning hard. Imajin Advertising executives however, are still keeping the name of the honouree close to their chests.

Some of the names being bandied about include Kojo Antwi, Pat Thomas, Nana Ampadu, A B Crentsil, Jewel Ackah and Paapa Yankson.

The next LAL Ball, according to Kojo Soboh, Events and Promotions Manager at Imajin Advertising, has been slated for the end of November.

“We are already gearing up for the show but will intensify the preparation as soon as the personality is revealed next week. There is a line-up of exciting as well as surprise artistes on the bill and I assure everyone of a great concert by the end of November,” Soboh said.

MTN is the main sponsor of the 2013 LAL Ball.

FORMER VIP MEMBER PROMZY NOW PROMZY AFRIKA

Former VIP member, Promzy, now wishes to be known as Promzy Afrika. The change in/of name comes weeks after he left the group.

In the next few years of his remaining music life, the rapper, known in real life as Emmanuel Ababio, would bear the name.

A silent but loud announcement of the change was made on Buk Bak’s two new singles released earlier today, ‘Ex Girlfriend’ being the other he featured on.

A split that got people talking, his exit from the group, has left the once buoyant trio, a duo. He was a main part of what used to be a tight unit.

No reasons have so far been stated for his leaving, but insiders say it’s a decision he had contemplated for long.

He has been in the studio recording, and would soon put out materials of his own, as a solo artiste.
