Naterial and Miriam, winners of the
MTN Hit Maker music reality contest, have not been given the GH¢100,000
and GH¢50,000 they were respectively promised for emerging winner and
first runner-up of the contest.
Though all the contestants,
general public and media were made to understand that the winner of the
MTN Hit Maker would walk home with a cool GH¢100,000 from MTN and a
year’s promotional package and other souvenirs, and the first runner-up,
an amount of GH¢50,000 from the MTN Foundation, plus a promotional
package, none of them has received a pesewa after emerging winner.
According
to MTN, it did not promise to give cash to any of the winners but
rather to keep the money in an account and use it to promote the music
careers of the two winners. Almost a month after the event, neither
Naterial nor Miriam has received any money from MTN and their music
careers have also not been injected with any money whatsoever.
When
NEWS-ONE contacted MTN over the seeming disappointment, the paper was
directed to speak to Eugene Ntri, who claimed that all the contestants
were made to understand that the money would be used for their career
but not given to them.
According to Eugene, MTN would ensure the
money is well accounted for and that there was no cause for worry. But
NEWS-ONE checks revealed that the contestants were never made aware that
they would not be given the cash amount.
Their understanding was that the cash amount was different from the year’s promotional package MTN promised.
Just
before the final event, NEWS-ONE had an exclusive with all the four
finalists, during which each of them explained in detail what they would
do with the cash amount should they emerge winner.
When NEWS-ONE
asked Mirian what plans she had with the prize money, this was her
response: “I need that money badly and I want Ghanaians to vote for me.
We are being ejected from our house and I need the money to pay our rent
else we would be stranded….Oh yeah.
You can add it because it is
true. I went to Takoradi over the weekend and we are being ejected so I
need the money. So they should vote for me.” Naterial also had a
similar response when he was asked the plans he had for the cash amount:
“I’m the only man standing in my nuclear family.
My dad is gone
and I am the only son. Secondly I am not from a rich home though we are
very gifted. I would use the money to help my mum set up an income
generating venture to keep us going.
I would use part to promote
my music career because when I hit, I would rake in more money. I also
intend opening a music and dance school to help others just like MTN is
helping us.
There are several other talents even better than me
out there and they also need my help.” As it stands now, the two
winners, despite the national fame the MTN Hit Maker platform has given
them, are still walking about cashless and their financial challenges
have worsened.
Chikicherker and Atimbilla, the other two finalists, have also not received a dime from MTN.
Nollywood
superstar Osita Oheme, popularly known as 'Pawpaw' is no doubt flying
high in his acting career. Aside doing well on the silver screens, the
pint-sized actor is getting endorsements from all corners as many
organizations and individuals want to do business with him.
Just
recently, the one half of ‘Aki and Pawpaw’ fame landed an 11million
naira deal in South Africa. Soon after, Pawpaw got himself entangled, as
seen in a picture, with two ladies in bathtub, unclothed.
The
photo, according to nigeriafilms.com, was from a photo-shoot of a
commercial the actor shot for VUSU Entertainment TV, which got him the
11million naira deal in South Africa. As the face of the TV station and
part of his deal, Pawpaw had to shoot the commercial for the TV channel.

Ayodeji Balogun otherwise known as Wizkid hit the Nigerian music industry few years ago when he released his hit single Holla At Your Boy.
The song became an instant hit especially when it became the favourite of many hit TV stations across Africa.
It is very usual for celebrities to have crush on some people before they also became stars themselves.
While
answering questions from Toolz on Ndani TV, Wizkid revealed that he had
crush on Nollywood superstar actress, Genevieve Nnaji.
According to Wizkid, “I really had a crush on Genevieve until I met her and I realized she was my aunty. I love her.
“When
I was a kid, I loved watching her movies. I met her when I was with my
older uncles, they told her to come meet their boy (me) and I said ‘Good
evening ma’. It is all good though, I still love you Genevieve,”
When
teased by Toolz if he could still date the 33 years old screen goddess,
22-year-old Wizkid said,” Yea, definitely, but I doubt she would date
me.”
He was then given a tip on how to get Genevieve. ”I think
you should send a private jet to go pick her (Genevieve) up at her house
and take her to wherever you are just for dinner,” Toolz told Wizkid.
”I promise, I am going to do that, the EME artiste assured Toolz.

For some time now, star actor, Kenneth Okonkwo, who played the movie role of Andy in the popular movie Living in Bondage, has not been prominent on the screens.
What
Nigeriafilms.com can confirm to you is that the prolific actor has
added soul winning for God to his two professions; acting and law.
The actor surprised many when he was seen at a lawyers’ forum few years ago.
Now, Kenneth has shown that aside acting and law practice, he is a good Evangelist; a fisher of men for God.
Kenneth Okonkwo recently headlined a 3-day crusade held in Ikorodu, Lagos as a guest minister of God of the event.
The
'3-Day Explosive Fire and Total Deliverance' crusade was tagged ‘Night
of Dominion’ and was held between September 26-28. 2012.
The service took place at Evangelist Peter Nwabueze’s Christ Mission Worldwide Church, Owode Onirin, Ikorodu Lagos.
Liz Benson, Pat Attah, Eucharia Anunobi are among some renowned actors who have become 'fishers of men'.
It is with deep regret that the entire management team of Merqury
Republic presents this information in connection with the eleventh hour
postponement of Ghana DJ Awards 2012 which was due to unforeseen
technical circumstances.
Many are entertainment pundits and critics who have read meanings
into the sudden and the unfortunate postponement of our maiden awards
show Ghana DJ Awards 2012 which was slated at the national theatre last
week Friday 26th October.
The Ghana DJ Awards production team deems it fit to set the records
straight especially to its fans and supporters who have been angered by
the myriad of false information which has been widely spread by
entertainment reviewers and news reporters. It was really unfortunate
that just some few minutes before the main event, after successfully
setting up stage and even preparing the foyer, it was realized that the
quality in the sound which was of accepted standard from the beginning
was deteriorating, demeaning the standard meant to be set.
Again knowing the premium that had placed on the show and revelers
alike, it became obligatory to save the outfit’s image and credibility
by postponing the event at the eleventh hour.
Mercury Republic is much aware of the effects that this postponement
is likely to have brought to the numerous ticket buyers and press men
who got accredited to cover the event. It is in the wake of this that
the team writes to apologize to the numerous fans out there who were
hurt in one way or the other about the sudden postponement of the DJ
Awards.
Meanwhile, consultations are ongoing with authorities of the National
Theatre to come up with the new date as early as possible. Tickets
purchased are still valid to Ghana DJ Awards 2012.
“Again, we want to by this press release state emphatically that we
did not owe authorities of the national theatre in any way as has been
spread by some industry reviewers”.
The events team apologizes for any inconvenience this may have caused
to all DJs in Ghana, nominees and international DJs who traveled from
their respective countries to grace this initiative.
