Gospel musician Grace Ashy, and
actress Rose Akua Attaa Mensah, alias Kyeiwaa, on Tuesday, led a group
showbiz artistes to present an appeal to the Women Caucus in Parliament
to support Ghanaians women in soccer.
The appeal comes ahead of the FIFA Women's World Cup scheduled for Canada next year, 2015.
As the world finished paying attention to the World Cup which took
place in Brazil, Canada is gearing up for a massive soccer championship
of its own.
In a chat with the caucus, Grace Ashy recalled the
role music and cheer-songs had played in elevating the men’s side of
Ghanaian soccer, and appealed to the Women Caucus to make the elevation
of women soccer, a matter of concern in their deliberations in the
House.
She stressed that it was important that the Caucus
supported artistes in their efforts to use performances to promote game
among women, to reclaim their lost glory in soccer.
Kyeiwaa,
displaying some acting antics, and shouting some cheer songs, said the
artistes were ready to use their media to promote the game to elevate to
the height men soccer had reached.
Hajia Mary Salifu Boforo,
Chairperson of the Women’s Caucus, commended the artistes on their
initiative, and pledged the support of the caucus.
Actress and TV personality, Ama K
Abebrese earlier this year, kicked off a campaign to fight against skin
bleaching and skin toning.
The initiative has now reached its peak with billboards popping up in Accra and Kumasi to send across her message.
With
the help of Hamamat, winner of Miss Malaika Ghana 2012, Actress Nana
Ama Mcbrown and actress/singer Paulina Oduro, Ama K is taking her
spreading her campaign wide and across all media.
Her choice of Nana Ama McBrown, and
Pauline Oduro, clearly sends the message that the campaign is not
against light skin but a message for women in particular to love their
skin, no matter the shade or tone!
Ama K posted on her Instagram:
“Some of the billboards of ‘Say NO to skin bleaching/skin toning’
campaign are out on the streets of Accra and Kumasi. #Ghana. Have you
spotted any of them? Tell us where. #ilovemynaturalskintone”.

Everybody was waiting to hear the new
date for the wedding of Actor Chris Attoh and the love of his life,
Damilola Adegbite but from what Peacefmonline.com is reading on social
media this morning, it appears Chris and Damilola may have tied the knot
secretly.
They announced in January 2014 that they are a couple
and later revealed they’ll be tying the knot this April but they
postponed the wedding till later this year or early next year.
However,
Actor and TV star, Chris Attoh has hinted that he is now officially
married to his Nigerian fiancée, Damilola Adegbite.
The pair have been officially joined together in holy matrimony. Chris confirmed in a Facebook post on Wednesday morning.
The ceremony comes months after both announced they were expecting their first child.
Call
it an on-screen chemistry that got serious as the years went by, as you
would not be far from it. The former Tinsel stars have both featured in
several movies together including 6 Hours to Christmas, Flower Girl and
others.

Ghana’s rap doctor Okyeame Kwame says
though it has been over a week since hip-life artiste Castro went
missing on the Volta Lake and is now feared dead, the missing artiste
could be in Togo.
Castro went missing on Sunday July 6, 2014,
while jet skiing on the Volta Lake at Ada where he was holidaying with
Black Stars’ Captain, Asamoah Gyan and some other friends.
Reports say Castro – born Theophilus Tagoe – drowned while trying to save Janet Bandu, an acquaintance.
But
Okyeame Kwame stated that considering the geographical location of Ada,
the Estuary and the sea, if Castro was drawn into the sea he could have
possibly drifted towards Togo.
“I don’t believe Castro is dead
because he was a good swimmer. From Ada, Togo is on the east and it is
very possible that our brother might have washed up there,” the ‘Woso’
hit maker said on Joy TV’s ‘White Carpet’.
Asked whether he
misses Castro, Okyeame Kwame added, “Now I can’t say I miss Castro
because he is just constantly on my mind. I don’t miss him. We just hope
to find him. I do not miss him because I don’t think he is dead,” he
said.
A search party led by the Marine Unit of the Ghana Police
Service with assistance from the Ghana Navy and local folks have since
been searching tirelessly to find both Castro and Janet.

Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New
Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly called Chairman
Wontumi on Tuesday moved to Ada to seek first hand information that
could lead to the unravelling of the mystery surrounding the whereabouts
of the missing hip-life musician, Castro and his friend, Janet, who
seemingly drowned on Sunday July 6.
Wontumi was accompanied by
political satirist and sensational musician Barima Sidney and Yaw
Adomako Baafi, a lawyer and a member of the NPP Communication team.
“Castro
is a personal friend of mine and I became greatly worried when we
started to hear all those reports and it was confusing because some of
the reports were contradictory so we decided to go to Ada to get first
hand information on what actually happened and where we have reached. We
got here at 6:00 am and we have spoken to several groups and
individuals,” Chairman Wontumi explained to NEWS-ONE.
Asked if
the trip yielded any fruitful results that could help in the search,
Wontumi said the situation was a difficult one, yet all hope was not
lost.
“All I can say is that we should pray and continue to pray.
We have to believe in God and rely on God at this point. There are a
few revelations we were made to understand, so let us keep praying to
God and believe all things are possible with God,” Wontumi added.
Prior to the trip to Ada, Wontumi had criticised President John Mahama for remaining silent on the development.
“The
President, John Mahama should have come out to say something to
Ghanaians and Castro’s family. Castro has become a national asset and
the President should have come out to tell us the whereabouts of Castro
and Janet and the outcome of the search. He can even bring in foreign
divers to help in the search. His silence is worrying and we are all
getting worried.
“Castro is a public figure and I don’t know why
the President cannot give the nation some hope or some assurance to calm
the several worried Ghanaians… If the Marine Police are working, it
does not mean the President should remain silent. If this was in
America, Obama would have come out with a statement. I am worried.
President Mahama must come out to tell us where Castro is. Castro served
Ghana and this tragedy happened to him, I have not eaten because Castro
is part of the persons who entertain the several millions of
Ghanaians,” Wontumi added.
Barima Sidney, after the trip, wrote
on this facebook wall: “If Jesus says yes!! Volta Lake has no say…myself
and Chairman Wontumi, Adomako Baafi currently in Ada….more
revelations.”

Pretty Ghanaian actress, Juliet
Ibrahim has disclosed that she and her husband, Kwadwo Safo had been
divorced for a year and they decided to keep it private because of their
son.
The actress in a release affirmed speculations that her four-year-old marriage to Kwadwo Safo had come to an end.
She
explained in the statement that her decision “to keep the divorce on
the low was so that the two involved would not be distracted from their
responsibilities toward the child they have together.”
Speaking
in an exclusive interview with Myjoyonline.com, Juliet, who was adjudged
the Best Ghanaian Actress at the 2014 edition of the City people
Entertainment Awards held in Nigeria, said she and Kwadwo were separated
a year before that.
“I am divorced. It’s over a year now…we were separated for a long time,” she said.
The
bubbly actress and producer said she was pushed to release the
statement on the divorce due to the false rumours people were peddling
about her.
Juliet disclosed that even though she and Kwadwo Safo,
son of renowned Ghanaian religious leader, Apostle Kwadwo Safo, are
officially divorced, they are still the best of friends and they
constantly keep in touch.
“We are cool. On a normal day, he will
call me and we will be chatting like a brother and sister. Almost every
day we talk. It’s not about love, but we have a bond, we have a child
together,” she said beaming with smiles.
The award winning
actress refuted speculations that the divorce was fuelled by her husband
cheating on her allegedly: “Nobody's cheating on anybody. It’s a mutual
agreement” and that things were not working between them.
‘Marriage regrets’
To
Juliet, marriage was sweet but her only regret was that she rushed into
it without examining fully whether they were compatible as a couple.
“Maybe
the only regret I hold is the fact that maybe I should have waited and
really know if we were ready to be in marriage but we're just like young
people in love so we didn’t think twice about it. We just went in for
it, maybe we should have taken our time to really know if we can live
together,” she revealed.
The actress explained further that,
“It’s a different thing when you are dating somebody and then living
with the person so maybe if we would have taken our time we would have
known that maybe we are better off as boyfriend-girlfriend than to be
married.”
Asked the chances of them coming back together, Juliet
burst into laughter and said “it is possible” but “if I happen to meet
someone I also love more than him, I will change my mind.”
Her
three-year-old son, Jaiden, she noted, is coping well. She and her
husband are doing their best to make enough time for him to always feel
at home. “He knows we don’t live together.”
‘Movie life’
Juliet
Ibrahim, born to a Lebanese father and a half Ghanaian-half-Liberian
mother, entered into acting after she won Queen of Languages of the
Institute of Languages in 2004. Her firstmovie role was in ‘Crime to
Christ.'
She is planning to celebrate her 10th anniversary in the movie industry later this year.
The
actress said contrary to perceptions, she is a shy person, “an ordinary
girl” and “very friendly” and that “when people look at me on the
street and tell me they think I am stuck up and I am rude and they don’t
like me because of my personality, I laugh because you’ve only seen the
personality I acted on screen [and not real life] and that means I was
so good to convince you that I am that bad but naturally I am not.”
‘Nudity’
Asked
if she will ever accept to play nude in a movie, Juliet Ibrahim
stressed that even for 10 million dollars, she won’t accept such a role.
She
explained that, “there is a limit to what you can do in movies in
Africa because of our culture and upbringing. Morally there are some
things if you overdo it, it’s going to be wrong. I have done a couple of
movies where I have to kiss people romantically, it’s done, it’s just
acting…
“it’s done well in a manner that people don’t see it as
bad but when you want to now start taking off cloths, and maybe like
going naked, I can’t do that because I’m a mother, I have a child. I’m a
typical African woman, grounded to the roots. There are things that I
know that I will never be comfortable that my mother is watching movie,
my mum is seeing me doing [in movies].”
As a producer, she has
her own rules and regulations when it comes to movies and believes that
“there is a tasteful way of doing things when you want to produce or
when you want act all these love making [scenes].”
‘Music’
Juliet
disclosed that she loves dancing and singing and that music is her
first passion before acting. She has so far has three singles to her
credit, ‘Celebrate,' ‘Traffic Jam’, and ‘It’s Over Now.'
She said
she will be releasing an eight-track album by December this year. The
album will feature some Ghanaian and Nigerian musicians.
False stories’
Juliet
Ibrahim is one of many celebrities who constantly receive media
attention for both the right and wrong reasons. Interestingly, she said
about 70 percent of stories about her in the media are false.
According
to her, she used to be worried about false reportage about her when she
entered the industry in 2004 but she has now grown to take them
lightly.
“I have come so far” in the industry that, she does not
“really listen to what people say. I have heard so much, there are times
I wake up in the morning and somebody quotes me in an interview that
they claim they had with me.”
‘Producing movies’
“Producing
is very challenging but acting is sweet” explaining that a producer has
to make sure that “the money you’ve been given to produce a movie does
not exceed the budget.”
She admitted that combining acting and
producing is very stressful. She is currently the CEO of Jewels
Productions. She funded her first movie, the ‘Number One Fan’ which was
premiered in Ghana last year.
She is currently working on a new
project, ‘Shattered Romance'. The movie stars, Brian Okwara, and Benro
Ajebade from Nigeria and Ghanaian actors, Pascaline Edwards, Paulina
Edwards, Sonia Ibrahim, and herself. Eddie Nartey is directing the
movie.
‘The Juliet Ibrahim Foundation’
She started the Juliet Ibrahim Foundation to help fund Kidney and Cancer patients in Ghana.
The
foundation, since its launch in 2011, has touched the lives of several
people including Richard Kwasi Yeboah, who will be having a kidney
transplant later this month.
