Veteran actress Amanorbea Dodoo cannot stop thanking God for healing her when she battled stroke for two months last year.
The
50-year old told Showbiz it was not easy for her during her illness. “I
could do virtually nothing. I was involuntarily biting my lips a lot of
the time and I saw my face muscles shifting to the left side. Each day I
woke up, I prayed to God and hoped that I would be better”
Narrating
what happened, the actress who is well known for playing mother roles,
said she had returned home on Thursday April 18, 2013 with no sign of
sickness and at dawn when she decided to visit the washroom she found
out she could not move half of her body.
According to her she
could neither raise her right hand nor right leg because the right side
of her body was completely numb. “I called a doctor friend who took me
to the Korle-Bu teaching hospital”, she said.
She went on to say
that her family, church members and friends who were surprised to have
heard the news broke into tears when they visited her at the hospital.
“Some
of my family members and friends thought I was going to die. Although
they prayed for me to get better, I knew I wasn’t going to die because
of the God I serve. As we talk now, I am 98 percent fit and will hit the
screens soon” she said with a dimpled smile.
Currently working
with the National Council of Persons with Disability and the Ghana
Organization of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, the actress who is known for
movies such as Suzie, Sergeant Abebrese, Me Ba, A Heart of Gold, Twin
Lovers, Material Girls, Dons Of Sakawa, Who Owns The City, Chelsea, Turn
Me On, Death After and Somewhere In Africa noted that the Ghana movie
industry is not at its best yet.
Her main concern was how a
section of our movie industry, especially the Akan speaking ones, go
about their business. To her, the Akan speaking movies produce quantity
movies instead of quality movies.
Asked whether she would
featured in any Akan speaking ones should she be offered a good price,
she explained that she would only do so if the storyline is good and she
is assured that editing will also be on point.
“I usually don’t
look at the money first before acting. I put myself in the character I
play and make sure I execute it well to the understanding of my fans and
Ghanaians as a whole.
“It is unfortunate I am sounding this
critical but Akan movies can only be sold here in this country and
nowhere else. Many of them don’t teach any moral lesson but rather end
up confusing patrons”, she said.
Ghanaian Musician, Kojo Rana, has
called actress Roselyn Ngissah his “darling” in the wake of speculations
that she is warming his bed.
The plump actress celebrated her
birthday on Saturday February 8, and Kojo was all over the place
expressing his feelings for her.
“It’s your birthday darling…We
going to rock tonight,” Kojo posted with a sexy picture of the ‘4play’
actress on instagram on Saturday.
Later that evening, he also posted a picture of the two of them hanging out.
They
pretty much looked like they were a couple in the picture. It was their
second photo together after their first at the Ghana Movie Awards in
December.
“Happy birthday Roselyn…You are beautiful inside out,” he added.
Kojo is yet to talk about his relationship with the actress after reports broke out that they were seeing each other.
However, Roselyn had earlier on denied they were in an intimate relationship. She told News-One they were just good friends.

Celebrated gospel artiste, Obaapa
Christy, formally called Christiana Love is not enthused about the
talkative attitude of Ghanaians and has criticized her country men for
dabbling in matters that do not concern them.
The songsters, who
is in town from her foreign base to promote her VCD, a compilation of
music videos, was speaking her mind when she was asked about the issue
with regards to her giving birth out of wedlock – an issue that made
headlines a few years ago during her tumultuous breakup with her
estranged husband, Pastor Love.
“People are saying I gave birth,
so what? Ghanaians talk too much, especially on matters that have no
bearing on their lives. I am not concerned about what they say about me
as I am focused on stuff that will uplift my music,” she muttered.
Obaapa
also asserted that, Ghanaians and the media love to dwell much on
negativity and she is all about positivity and is concerned with the
progress of her career and work. “One should not pay attention to what
people say about him/her. What is said about you will not make you,” she
admonished.
On her marriage with Pastor Love, Christy was
assertive in saying that they are no more together and she has moved on
to new chapters in her life. “We are not together,” she said plainly.
On
speculations that she has remarried, the “No Fears” singer shot such
conjecture down by claiming that she is single. In a not-too-convincing
mode, Christy claimed that she has remained single since her separation
from her former husband.
The artiste, who has remained inactive
in the music business for a while, is promoting the compilation of her
music videos that is up for sale. She also assured Ghanaians and her
loyal fans that she’s working in the studio and her next album will be
ready soon.
In 2011, the then Christiana Love and her
manager-husband, Pastor Love made headlines when they accused each other
of infidelity, adultery and deceit during the many years of their
marriage. According to Christy, her decision to divorce her pastor
husband stemmed form the unceasing abuses he subjected her to –
sometimes beating her up in the presence of his girlfriend.
Christiana
said her husband impregnated another woman – a woman she accuses of
being at the center of all her marital problems – in his church at the
same time she was also expecting his child.

Hiplife
artiste, D. Cryme says that what he wishes to erase from the public
about his image is the perception held among many that he is a skirt
chaser.
“If there is anything I would want the public to spare me
of, it is the perception that many people hold that D. Cryme is a
womanizer. Sometimes, I wonder what evidence such accusers have to label
me as such.
“I am never a womanizer and I don’t know what
criteria such people use to measure me. It gets really interesting but
the truth is that, I appreciate ladies a lot because they are God’s most
expensive creation and they need to be adored so I only play my role by
giving them all that love and attention” he told Showbiz last Monday.
The
Kill Me Shy hitmaker said it is that lovely attitude he exhibits
towards ladies that those who know him have wrongly misconstrued to be
the antics of womanizing.
“Let me tell you, female fans are
always the majority of the fans who will support you. They will give you
all the encouragement when the going gets tougher and occasionally
offer pieces of advice so it is only fair that you reciprocate these
kind gestures. And this is where many people get it wrong.
“When
they read messages from your facebook page, instagram and other social
sites, they just interpret such harmless messages like ‘ I love you’
according to their mischievous understanding. But the question is, how
many ladies can I propose to on these sites without the others getting
to know?” he asked.
He however noted that, occasionally, he had
female fans “who wanted to go overboard with the professional
relationship” but always had his way of handling such ladies.
“In
our part of the world, it is difficult for women to propose to men so
when they muster the courage to do that, you must find a nice way of
handling it so that you don’t hurt their feminine pride. Besides, these
same ladies are the bulk of your fans so you act very well so not to
hurt them and that is the dilemma male artistes like myself who are in
the limelight find ourselves” he said.
D. Cryme, real name,
Darlington Kwasi Agyekum denied a suggestion that he was no longer a
force to reckon with on the music scene due to his inability to release
hit songs in recent times.
“I had to take a break last year to
pave way for the younger ones in my camp who were feverishly preparing
to hit the music stage. Guess my critics do not know about this. It
shouldn’t always be about D. Cryme but others who also have the talent
to contribute to the industry. That was what I did last year, grooming
new faces and so it is never true that I am out of the market and cannot
stand the competition.
He said that to make his presence felt
more this year, he has lined up both local and international concerts to
pacify his fans for his long absence and would kickstart with a
Valentine concert at Juaso this weekend and follow it up with shows
during the Easter festivities.
“I want my fans to know that
D.Cryme is back this year for good and ready to give them juicy stuff.
My second album, The Arrival, which will be released in June this year
will confirm my new status in the game” he said.

Ex Ghana defender Tony Baffoe insists
he is not bothered by the profession of his actress wife; Kalsoum
Sinare especially when she plays romantic scenes involving kissing and
fondling.
The former Black Stars player has been married to his
superstar wife for the past twenty years – in a relationship that has
produced four kids.
Kalsoum Sinare is one of the leading
actresses from Ghana and has starred in several movies. Her talent has
been recognized with several awards and has been contracted by several
Nigerian producers to play leading roles in their movies.
Kalsoum
has had to play roles which make some people very uncomfortable. She
has been caught up in romantic scenes including kissing and fondling
which is seen as immoral to sections of the Ghanaian public especially
with her marital status.
But her husband, a former Ghana
international insists these roles are not a bother to him. “People ask
me how do you feel when your wife kisses someone in a movie and I tell
them I am a better kisser,” Baffoe said in an extensive interview with
Happy FM.
“That is her passion and I support her to make the best
out of her movies.” Baffoe remains one of the most respected figures in
Ghana even after his playing career.
He is now into management where he currently is the General Secretary for the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana.
He
also works on the FIFA task force against racism, on FIFA’s Football
Committee and also works and a General Co-ordinator for CAF and FIFA.

Exactly Seventeen (17) years ago
today, 13th February, 1997, I started my career as a TV presenter. I was
at work by 5am, ready to do my work as a floor manager (that was what I
was supposed to do) for the first ever Breakfast Show on TV in Ghana.
But,
by sheer Grace, Favour and Mercy of God, Madam Beatrice Aidoo (May God
continue to bless her) asked me to sit on the red couch with her and
read the news papers while she reviewed with the late Harry Mozalas of
GNA. The rest, they say, is still History in the making.
The
first review in the news papers of me was “beautiful enough to decorate
the set, but not intelligent enough for the programme”. I wept and that
was when my dad gave me this advice, “the best form of revenge, is to
succeed”.
He encouraged me and urged me on. Mr Edward Boateng of
Global Media Alliance, who started the Breakfast show on GTV decided to
give me a chance. Mr Wallace Bampoe Addo ( the famous Uncle Wallace) saw
something in me and challenged me to do more.
Since 13th
February, 1997, I have interviewed thousands of people. Some have become
presidents (4 of them: Presidents John Kuffuor, John Mills, John Mahama
and Obasanjo, well before they announced to the world that they wanted
to be presidents and after they became presidents) and others who were
presidents, including Hellen Johnson Sirleaf, the late Muamar Gaddafi
etc, world leaders, ministers, political leaders, heads of institutions
and ordinary and everyday people like myself etc.
I have
travelled around this country and some parts of the world to do stories,
human interest stories and cover world events. I have hosted many
programmes and national events. I have hosted my own show, The
Standpoint, for the past five and half years. I have spoken on many
platforms including my favourite one, The Spring Board Road Show, three
years consistently.
Today, 13th February 2014, I am speaking to
about 2000 pupils on Sèx and Sèxuality at Kaneshie. I don’t need to tell
you that it’s been a rough road, it’s been challenging and sometimes
heart breaking. But I have continued to push on, stayed focus and
passionate, all by the Grace of God. I have listened to advice and taken
in criticisms, while holding my head high, while moving on.
The
Question is: what are people saying about what you do? Do you love what
you do? With God, nothing is impossible. You can achieve your dreams
only if you believe, work hard and stay focused and trust God.. My
journey continues… Will you continue yours?
On my 17th
anniversary as a presenter, I hope my story inspires and motivates you
to do what you love to do despite the challenges. Much love.

Award winning actor Majid Michel has
left many movie enthusiasts wondering and confused as to what he really
meant by ‘there is no Ghollywood, it’s only Nollywood’ comment on HITZ, a
program on ONTV, an entertainment channel which operates under Sound
City TV in Nigeria.
Reports coming in from Nigeria has it that
the Ghanaian actor who is known for his lover boy roles declared on the
said program that there is nothing like Ghollywood as some Ghanaians
have claimed but there is only Nollywood in Africa and that it was
Nigeria that came up with the whole idea and made it a reality for
others to follow.
Now questions being raised by some sources from
Nigeria are ‘Does the movie industry in Ghana has a name or is there
any industry at all that Ghanaians can boast of?
Was Majid right
in his comments on the show? So where, from which movie industry at all
did he (Majid) started his movie career if his comments was well
understood?
Despite the hundreds of attempts and efforts to reach
the popular Ghanaian actor to explain his comments passed on HITZ on
OnTV have proved to be more or less impossible since his phone line
fails to go through.
